Re: FCP 7 HELP! on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion? - 10 years agoJust to say - FCP7 runs with no problems on a Rmb pro - the only bug being the app switcher between tcp and safari which never works for me. works a treat though.by Josh B - Café LA Re: the New Mac Pro...Whatda think - 10 years agoThat puppy ain't going to be cheap, I have a horrible feeling it could be in the "sell the car, pimp your wife" department, those are all expensive parts and im sure they will be wacking a premium on it. Ive got mixed feelings: new xeon chips, usb 3, TB2, super fast ram etc all fantastic... no PCIe slots and a GPU (or two) thats soldered onto the mono? just when we have got to the poiby Josh B - Café LA Re: Issues with FCP Studio and Mountain Lion - 11 years agoif you want to see your user library just put the following into terminal: sudo chflags nohidden ~/Library it will promt for your password. you'll also need to relaunch the finder i think.by Josh B - Café LA Re: Poor Performance working with HD - 11 years agoHi Shelleyrae, yeah you've missed out one of the important ones - what codec is your media. also what are your sequence settings. Let me guess are you cutting HDV by any chance?by Josh B - Café LA Re: Why does ProRes choke my machine? - 11 years agoWell in regards to the first quote i've always read it as "doesn't matter if its 8 or 10bit, its preserved" ie if your footage is 8bit then your not loosing anything as its a 10bit codec, and if your footage is 10bit your still not loosing anything - apples way of saying "hey you don't need to worry about it, either way we got you covered - but just don't ask us for any details&quoby Josh B - Café LA Re: Why does ProRes choke my machine? - 11 years agoAs i have always understood it ProRes is a 10bit Codec - the difference between LT, 422 and HQ is one of bitrate. Prores4444 is different as it can carry an alpha channel as well.by Josh B - Café LA Re: OT: DVD Authoring... What are we using now? - 12 years agoQuoteHowever Adobe media encoder does work incredibly quickly for making files for DVD instead of compressor Im assuming thats because its now supporting CUDA?by Josh B - Café LA - X Re: Looking to buy a Drobo array - 12 years agoTo add what ben said in my experience drobo's are SLOW. I use a 4bay for project backup and a client has a drobopro for backing up Datacards. If its a 'write once (overnight) and forget' job then alls well and good but If your going to be writing a lot of media to these things, or your going to want to dip in and out of them to collect media etc don't expect it to happen quickly - the drobo proby Josh B - Café LA Re: OPPORTUNITY - WHO THE PRO'S ARE!!!! - 12 years agoQuoteIf you're looking for an editor, ask them what they think of FCPX, if they say they hate it, you know that's a pro, then it's experience after that and talent. Sorry but that has to contend for one of the daftest things to be said on the forums... its like saying that if you don't use the most expensive fountain pen then your not a professional writer - it don't work like that. There are sby Josh B - Café LA - X Re: Petition to reinstate FCP 7 found on Apple Discussion Board - 12 years agoHang on the software has only been released for a few days give it just half a chance... 12months down the line half of the issues that we have at the moment may well be gone, and just because apple isn't still selling fcp7 doesn't mean it suddenly won't boot up on your mac (assuming your not always going to be blindly downloading every update that pops up) nor that apple won't provide updates toby Josh B - Café LA - X Re: MacPro 3.1 (early 2008), Radeon 5770 or 5870 and FCPX? - 12 years ago... the trying it before you buying it was in reference to FCPX!! I would highly recommend grabbing the graphics card though, its worked a treat in terms of kicking new life into my old system. So to confirm for you, fcpx will work with a 5770 in a macpro1,1 - in fact i've had no compatability issues at all since putting the new GPU in although it isn't officially supported by apple. - imby Josh B - Café LA - X Re: X is here (also new Motion and Compressor) - 12 years agoQuoteEverything you need to know about FCP X !!!!EVERYTHING!!!! Phew, glad they have taken the time to address some of the questions people might have about such a new bit of software, i was kinda confused til i read through it...by Josh B - Café LA - X Re: MacPro 3.1 (early 2008), Radeon 5770 or 5870 and FCPX? - 12 years agoHi Craig, Im running a macpro 1,1 with the GPU upgraded to a Radeon 5770 and FCPX installed and runs without problems (although i would SERIOUSLY try it out before you consider buying it)by Josh B - Café LA - X Re: FCP X and Motion 5 now in App Store - 12 years agoI can absolutley definitly confirm it DOES NOT overrite FCP7 - all it does is place the suite in a folder called final cut studio - so if you had a shortcut on your dock (who doesn't) then it will boot fcpx by default which may freak you out - but FCP is still there in the studio folder inside the app. So far i have to admit im not a big fan, it feels like so many options and controls have beby Josh B - Café LA - X Re: X is here (also new Motion and Compressor) - 12 years agoNo EDL's...? No XMLs?... whaaaa?? At the moment it just feels like a skeleton of FCP7!!by Josh B - Café LA - X Released at last! - 12 years agoJust downloaded it from the UK store... Crikey its a new creature and no mistake. Where the heck are all the settings and prefs, its a little unnerving not having lots of settings to play with! The imovie 'events' is making my head hurt, and its going to be a whole new lot of dance moves to learn, but its nice to finally be able to get the grubby mits on it!by Josh B - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoMy guess mike is that it will be ok - unlike the OS updates and point incremental updates this is a completely new application so there won't be that issue - that and im sure apple realise that a lot of facilities are not just about to jump straight into fcpx and there is still going to be a demand for fcp7 for a good few years! Fingers crossed anyway!by Josh B - Café LA - X Re: Additional Video Card - 12 years agoNo prob, let us know how you get on and if you find the source of the grinding gears!!by Josh B - Café LA Re: Additional Video Card - 12 years agoQuoteIt took me about 10 hour to add 9 titles and 4 clips to a Motion Template that I bought to save time editing it my self. If an $800 video card is going to save me a week or more of editing during the life of the computer, Is it worth the investment? Hey Douglas, thats a good fast mac you've posted the specs to, plenty of ram and the ATI card is no slouch, so im a little surprised at how sby Josh B - Café LA Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoQuoteNow, I can report ..... ABSOLUTELY. I think most real editors will stick to FCP6&7. The FCPX what-cha-macall-it, IMHO is crap. no mater how it uses resources or makes the intricate settings that we do now, dummy proof. Is there some preview copy that you've been editing on for the last few months to be able to make such a judgement? not quite sure which bit of FCPX is 'crap' but ifby Josh B - Café LA - X Re: OT: Atomos Ninja...this looks ridiculously cool!! - 12 years agoQuoteIf I'm not mistaken, I think you just toggle through the <INFO> button in movie mode to get a clean signal out REALLY? I thought there was still no way to get clean HDMI - "runs of to try it out"by Josh B - Café LA Re: New iMac with 2 Thunderbolt ports = Death of MacPro? - 12 years agoIt certainly makes the MacPros look outdated and damn expensive considering what you get for your money with the new MacPros. That said there has to be new MacPro updates in the not so distant future... there just has to be... i can't keep going on this machine much longer!!by Josh B - Café LA Re: New Final Cut Pro at Supermeet, April 12 - 12 years agoQuoteSo if you buy a ticket to a show, you expect to see the show you purchased for right? So what if the week before the show, all of the performers you paid to see were now replaced by a single person. What's your reaction? I believe most of the uproar, including from myself, is that this is now an Apple Marketing Event. You generally don't pay to go to a marketing event. Heck AJA has the mby Josh B - Café LA Re: New Final Cut Pro at Supermeet, April 12 - 12 years agoQuote There's no reason for Apple to hide under the illusion of veiled secrecy in this case. The entire presentation is bumped, at least Apple should have the professional courtesy to say why. When does Apple ever roll any differently? Come on everything they do they keep as secret as possible with very very few exceptions when they actually anounce upcoming products or plans for the future - bby Josh B - Café LA Re: New Final Cut Pro at Supermeet, April 12 - 12 years agoEeeeehehe so excited! There will be much sobbing and hugging of icecream tub now if this dosn't happen!by Josh B - Café LA Re: Methods to retouch wires in product videos. - 13 years agoHi david, You could use motion to do this but personally i would reach for After Effects - a mixture of masks and the clone tool etc will do the job nicely!by Josh B - Café LA Re: using AE in FCP Studio - 14 years agoFilmman it really depends WHAT you want to be doing - rather than what software you want to be using. That would make it rather easier to answer your question.by Josh B - Café LA Re: 1 TB Drives - 14 years agohad a client buy (on advice from some muppet) a whole pile of 'mybook' drives... i took one look and told her to either bin them or sell em but under no conditions to use them... can't recommend enough that you keep as far away from those drives as possibleby Josh B - Café LA Re: Drive Death - 14 years agoI have to agree with Derek, in my case i've had harddrives sit on a shelf for a year or two or longer and i have yet (touch wood!) had one die on me. I have however had an internal drive go... External drives take more wear and tear, they have more things to go wrong (the sata bridge) they get moved, bumped around... none of that can help their chances much when up against a static drive insiby Josh B - Café LA Re: using wireframe to reduce image - 14 years agoDave you could create a matte with the 4 boxes for your video in photoshop, or given the fact your resizing anyway id just crop it - quick and easy fix with the same results!by Josh B - Café LA |
