I haven't either. I've just heard of VFX editors using it because it's somewhat integrated with Avid. It's an offline-focussed NLE. A finishing solution it isn't.by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: From FCP to AVID - your experience* - 11 years agostrypes Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Effects in Avid are definitely less intuitive. But that tracker sure saves me a lot of round-tripping. It's no Mocha, but for "proof of concept" temp VFX it's very handy. I hear Avid FX is actually very good. > Adjusting audio levels > is also where I kind of prefer FCP where you can > keyframe inby JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: From FCP to AVID - your experience* - 11 years agoPersonally, I couldn't be happier going from FCP to Media Composer. Of course, I didn't see that much value in it until I started focussing on narrative. Certainly it has it's downsides, but overall I feel like it's more story focussed. It's so much smoother -- and more robust. FCP feels like it's part After Effects. While the effects are sometime more awkward, the tracker, keying, and aggressby JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: Lightworks actually coming to Mac - 11 years agoStoked for this. Don't expect a beta anytime soon though.by JustinB - Café LA Re: Suggestion - Separate NLE Forums for LACPUG - 11 years agoI'm with Andrew. Trying to apply standard industry logic to Apple is a fool's game. As to the topic on hand... Might make sense. FCP7 is, for better or worse, zombie software. So for one clip with three audio tracks, there's four individual MXF files at the Finder level. So that would mean transcoding all that DNxHD, then bringing in the audio and re-syncing! Unless of course there's some alternate AMA workflow going on, and the DNxHD was wrapped in QTs. Works really well with lab generated material though. I've actually had mixed results with Compressor reversing TK. I'll have to try AE when we have no more CT.by JustinB - Café LA Re: 23.98 in 29.97 needs reverse telecine for editing. - 11 years agoYeah they're pretty cheap now. And then you can lift the BR H.264 (or MPEG2) at the native frame rate. As to Cinema Tools reverse telecine -- it has to be a proper 2:3 pulldown added. Sometimes you have to help it to identify the A frame, but usually when it doesn't work, the pulldown captured is somehow funky. I find this sometimes on stock footage that was originated on film, but has been coby JustinB - Café LA Re: Media Composer Titles--Green Newb Question - 11 years agoKeep moving forward with Avid. You won't regret it. I'm cutting a show in FCP now and it's killing me. Creative Cow has a ton of basic MC tutorials online now. And I highly recommend Steve Cohen's book, Avid Agility once you get comfortable with the basics.by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: Issues with FCP Studio and Mountain Lion - 11 years agoYou can get to the Library by holding down Option under the Finder "Go" menu.by JustinB - Café LA Re: R-Name gone in 10.7 - Alternatives? - 12 years agoDitto. I actually own Name Mangler. But I generally download Rename when I'm working away on other's machines. I'm not sure what the recent history is with the Symphony upgrades. Certainly that should be considered too.by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: $999 FCP to Avid Symphony crossgrade offer - 12 years agoIt should be noted that while for many people, Symphony and Media Composer are essentially the same thing, Symphony comes with Boris Continuum Complete--something that's not bundled with MC anymore. You'll have problems finding an affordable neg cutter these days anyway. As Nick suggested, you could go "Poor Man's DI", where you wouldn't go back to the negative after TK. You have it transferred to HD with a basic neutral grade with the idea that you'll finish back on that atby JustinB - Café LA |
