Re: X is here (also new Motion and Compressor) - 12 years agoI will dispute the charge to my credit card. The product that the App Store delivered to me is not Final Cut Pro, is not compatible with Final Cut Pro, and violates truth in labeling laws.by Boyd Dash - Café LA - X Re: Send to Compressor - 14 years agoI haven't been able to get the "Send to Compressor" function to work. A reference movie runs fine through Compressor, except Markers (chapter or compressor) do not appear in the preview window or timeline. The same project sent to Compressor shows markers in the timeline but no image in Preview, and after submission will not process at all. The progress bar moves rapidly almost to thby Boyd Dash - Café LA Re: Color works on MacBook Pro, but not Mac Pro - 16 years agoDone all that. Two graphics cards: ATI Radeon x1900 xt NVIDIA 7300 gt Running 4 monitors in other FCS2 apps wtih no issues.by Boyd Dash - Color Color works on MacBook Pro, but not Mac Pro - 16 years agoLast November, I tried unsuccessfully to open Color on my new 8-core Mac Pro. I tried trashing prefs, reinstalling; all the procedures in the long forum thread. Gave up to continue editing. On the road, last week, I tried Color in my MacBook Pro, and it works, but the faster Mac Pro would be better, so I just did the drill again. Color 1.0 would open after reinstalling FCS2. Updated to Colorby Boyd Dash - Color Re: 2k 4:4:4 online - 16 years agoOne last question: if file size is not a major issue, is ProRes better quality than DVCProHD?by Boyd Dash - Café LA Re: 2k 4:4:4 online - 16 years agoThanks for the advice about DVCProHD. What about ProRes 422? Can either of them output an image acceptable on a 2k theatrical projector for interim screening versions before final online? The HDcamSR masters are Spirit 2k 4:4:4 transfers from 16mm original film.by Boyd Dash - Café LA Re: 2k 4:4:4 online - 16 years agoThe interim versions may differ drastically, and I don't want to repeatedly rent the HDcamSR deck @ $1000/day.by Boyd Dash - Café LA 2k 4:4:4 online - 16 years agoWe originally budgeted tape-to-tape online of a 2 hour documentary from 40 hours of 24p HDcamSR 2k 4:4:4 masters. Offline FCP 6 project is 29.97 DV NTSC. Now we need interim HD versions for film festivals and distributor screenings. I'm considering transferring all 40 hours to hard drive (SATA or Xserve RAID?) Can my 8-core Mac Pro access this much storage? Is the AJA Kona card the right choiby Boyd Dash - Café LA Revert to FCP5 - 16 years agoI upgraded from FCS to FCS2 on my PowerBook G4. Because of its 1GHz processor, it won't open FCP6. How do I revert to FCP5?by Boyd Dash - Café LA Re: Where's the cut? Before or after the beat? - 17 years agoIf you're cutting stills, cut to the beat because the editing IS the action. If your images are moving, however, THEY are the action and the editing is merely conveying the images. David Lean always did his first cut of a scene without sound; then adjusted dialogue where necessary.by Boyd Dash - Café LA Re: Looking for LA based facility that restores old videos to digital - 17 years agoQuad One in Burbank.by Boyd Dash - Café LA Re: "Updated" Compressor won't open - 17 years agoThanks. I trashed receipts, etc., and reinstalled. Works fine, though I will be reluctant to update again.by Boyd Dash - Café LA "Updated" Compressor won't open - 17 years agoAfter updating Compressor this week, it won't open. Anyone else?by Boyd Dash - Café LA Nagra pilotone pulldown - 17 years agoI need to sync 1/4" mono audio tapes, with 60Hz pilotone, to 59.97. Can a Nagra III or IV be fed an NTSC sync pulse to resolve to? Is there a 59.97 crystal or video-driven resolver? Or am I forced to digitally pulldown after capture? If this is a redundant thread, sorry, I couldn't find anything using Search.by Boyd Dash - Café LA Re: crop 4:3 to 16:9 - 17 years agoI need a 16:9 aspect ratio now, because the audience does now (decades after the 4:3 original film.) Everything HD is 23.98. Downconverted offline is 29:97 NTSC DV with NDF timecode matching HDcam SR 2K 4:4:4 masters. Green represents cropped areas only for clarity, to help the Online Editor match the variable cropping while creating the 16:9 version. The HD masters are side cropped, wby Boyd Dash - Café LA Re: crop 4:3 to 16:9 - 17 years agoOffline master will crop each SD 4:3 frame with green bars at the top, bottom, or both, as a guide for online HD blow-up and "tilt-and-scan". (Green instead of black, so the desired framing will be more obvious to the online editor.) Online flow is from 2k HDcam SR - through FCP, BlackMagic 4:4:4, Smoke, and back out to SR. First we must explore exporting the FCP EDL to Avid Niby Boyd Dash - Café LA Re: crop 4:3 to 16:9 - 17 years agoThanks for the tips. The 16mm film was transferred on a Spirit 2K to HDcam SR 4:4:4, so the blown-up resolution should still exceed DVD (I don't know about BluRay.)by Boyd Dash - Café LA crop 4:3 to 16:9 - 17 years agoI'm cutting a six-hour documentary, 16mm 4:3, which we will eventually need to crop to 16:9 for DVD release. To preserve composition, some shots need cropping the top, some the bottom, and some need to preserve the middle of the frame. Anyone know a FCP workflow for "tilt-and-scan"? Using a 17" MacBook Pro dual 2.16, 2G RAM, Firewire 800, am I stuck rendering every shot inby Boyd Dash - Café LA Cinema Tools after-the-fact - 17 years agoI started editing a documentary in FCP3 (without Cinema Tools.) 16mm camera rolls were assembled into 2000' reels for telecine. Each 1hr Beta SP was captured as one clip with discrete continuous TC, and Key and Ink edge numbers are associated with film punches at the head of each camera roll. Now I have upgraded to Final Cut Studio and want to use Cinema Tools to create film lists, but it won'by Boyd Dash - Café LA |
