Now imagine it on a iPad.....OOOooooooH ! Now i understand ! It's coming sooner than you think guys. It was clearly designed for it.by Francois-Michel - Café LA - X Re: Fair and Balanced review: FCP X - great or not? - 13 years ago2 years ago, an editor at my job told me that i should start to learn new Editing softwares. He said "Well, i wont be surprised if in the future, FCP will disappear as we know it and it will be integrated in the iLife suite as a new Editing Software. In fact the whole FCP suite will be reforged in the iLife suite" At that time we were all laughing at him because his only argument wasby Francois-Michel - Café LA - X Re: No Multicam makes X a no go for me. - 13 years agoDo you think that Apple will do the same with FCP7 than with Shake, it will become open source ?by Francois-Michel - Café LA - X Re: Frame size...Color or FCP - 14 years agoOK so here is what i will do juste tell me if it make sense. 1- I will grade in 4K in Color with my settings in 4K 16:9 in Color. Of course the 5D shots will be much smaller but i will not resized them in Color, just grade them to be sure they match with the RED shots. 2- Than i will send back the graded timeline in FCP. 3- I will export a SCQTM of the sequence resized in 16:9 by the editoby Francois-Michel - Café LA Frame size...Color or FCP - 14 years agoHi guys, I will grade a short film shooted with the RED in 4K and with the Canon 5D. The final result will be outputed on an HDCAM SR. Here is my interrogation : Shots from the RED were imported with LOG & TRANSFER in FCP7 in ProRes 422 HQ 2K and shot from the 5D were transcoded in ProRes 422 HQ 1920x1080. The Edit was done in a 2K seby Francois-Michel - Café LA Sata card and Snow Leopard - 14 years agoHi guys, There is probably already a post somewhere about that if so just re-direct me there if not here is my problem. I installed Snow Leopard on a brand new drive. Than i put that drive in my MacPro in the Bay#2 so i have the choice to boot from that drive or the Leopard drive in the Bay#1. I ran some test with Snow leopard and everything worked perfeclty. I pluged my Sata Toweby Francois-Michel - Café LA 4K to 2K to HDCAM SR - 14 years agoHi guys, I would like to have a bit of information about the workflow i should use for a project filmed in 4K with the RED. We want to color this short film in COLOR. I think we can't work in 4K format in COLOR so we will have to downscale it to 2K to work in COLOR with the footage ( im not sure if im right about the 4K in COLOR). After the step of colorisation we will output on Hby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: TC of Clip to auto-sync to TC of Sequence - 16 years agoWell i didnt knew the OPTION-drag TC. but for the rest thats pretty much what my workflow is. But thx, i guess it will be a bit quicker with the option drag TCby Francois-Michel - FCP Feature Requests TC of Clip to auto-sync to TC of Sequence - 16 years agoAn option that when selected, every time you put a clip in a sequence, the clip would sync himself with the TC of the timeline wich would have been TC pre-seted. I did a lot of cam sync to make multiclips, and when you have 35 to 40 clips by tape its really a long process to put clips at the right place for CAM A than B Than C than do the multiclips. So if this option could exist, imagin how qby Francois-Michel - FCP Feature Requests Re: 29.97 to 24 fps - 15 years agoWell i was about to post about a 29.97 to 23.98 conversion when i saw this topic. The show is shot with a PMW-EX1 from Sony ---> 1080p24(XDCAM EX codec) But the DOP, thinking he would get a slow-mo result filmed some beauty shots in 1080p30(29,97). Than he forgot to reset is camera to the original 1080p24 and filmed some interviews in that 1080p30 format. Now we have to incorporate soby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: From Color to FCP timecode slip issue. - 15 years agoCould it be a setting in Color that create a delay of 1 to 3 frames when you import back your timeline in FCP ? The original footage was shot on HDCAM tapes 1080psf23.98, captured in ProRes (1080psf23.98), edited in FCP in 23.98 than imported in Color. The problem is that we delivered an OMF to the sound mixer from the timeline before it was colored. What could be the best way to strip theby Francois-Michel - Café LA From Color to FCP timecode slip issue. - 15 years agoHi guys, Today i noticed something really strange with a project colored in COLOR. I dont know if its a known issue. I imported a project from Color to FCP to strip the audio mix. I had 2 timelines opened ; the one (original) without the color correction and the new one from color. I noticed that the timecode in each cuts in the timeline from color had changed from 1 to 3 frames.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Converting SxS cards from source to ProRes - 15 years agoOk so the only option would ''digitize'' or ''Capture'' clips from SxS cards into FCP. Than select all the clips in the browser and do a BATCH EXPORT converting them in ProRes ? Or the MM way.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: WARNING ! : 1TB SEAGATE DRIVES - 15 years agoWell 3 months ago we buyed about 20 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 drives. In my everyday job, i have to make sure that all editors in there editing room have enough space for the upcoming digitize process and upcoming online render and so on. I do all the maintenance of our editing room in terms of software and hardware so i play with drives a lot. Sometime they need Little RAID ( 2 drives) mountby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: NOTE: If you are using Seagate/Maxtor drives. READ HERE! - 15 years agoHello guys, Just to be sure that i understand perfectly the situation with those seagate drives. If you dont do the firmware update, its 100% sure that in a really near futur, all our seagate drives will hit that 320th log file than once shuted down, the next morning we power on they'll never mount again ? Thx.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Converting SxS cards from source to ProRes - 15 years agoOk here is my normal workflow guys and why i wanna transcode those BPAV folder into ProRes and not the default codec. First i got the adaptor (USB) hooked up on a MAC for reading and transfering those cards. When i receive a card, i back up all BPAV folders on a back up drive Identifying which cards is which and the date and...you got the point. Than i open a project in FCP, hit apple-shiftby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: WARNING ! : 1TB SEAGATE DRIVES - 15 years agoHe he sorry guys...i guess its because my last visit was a long time ago...didnt take the time to watch everything.by Francois-Michel - Café LA WARNING ! : 1TB SEAGATE DRIVES - 15 years agoFor the last few months, we got a lot of troubles with seagate drives, in fact we got troubles especially with those 1TB SEAGATE drives. Several of our RAID TOURS crashed and a couple of single drives busted. We have contacted our supplier and after some research here is what he said to us : There is a firmware problem with those drives and seagate is aware of that. When you shut down aby Francois-Michel - Café LA Converting SxS cards from source to ProRes - 15 years agoHi guys, I am wondering if there is a way to convert footage from SxS cards in ProRes directly from the source. The guy who shoot the footage, drop the cards at my job so i have no access to the camera, i know i could go straight from the SDI out of the cam in a KONA card than captured it in prores but as i mentionned i dont have acces to the camera. I know that you can convertby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: 1080i HDV format conversion - 15 years agoFirst 1080i is interlaced material, so you wont be able to shoot progressive 1080 with that camera. You should shoot your thing 1080i than in compressor, compressed your media file in 720p. Than deliver that quicktime movie to your client.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: BPAV files Xcam - 15 years agoHi Jim, You simply need to download the latest drivers for XDCAM log and transfer and XDCAM Transfer ( Latest version ) from the Sony web site. Since than i read numerous theory about external drives towers ON MAC. I just wanna know, is there a PROPER WAY to shut down those kinda towers. Somebody told me that ON MAC you have to eject the drives first than shut down the MAC than the tower. Is it true that YOU NEVER EJECT A SAS TOWER, it may cause directory problems.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: OT: And it looks like Leopard - 15 years agoI hope nobody will ever post again the ''terrible word'' on this site...c'mon guys did your fingers burned when you types MICROSOFT...ouch !!!by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: OT: Drobos - 15 years agoHa ha ha ! Did you saw my post about 2 8tb towers crash. We replaced them by those you linked on your post. Really nice tower, make no noise at all...AT ALL ! We had an other 16TB tower ( too heavy) and it was making hell raiser noise, imagine our surprise when we turned on those babys. They are formated SAS RAID 5, so if one drive failed you just open the front panel than eject the badby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: 10.5.5...maybe a problem here ! - 15 years agoNo strypes, the 2 towers were external towers, we did everything we could to save them. In disk utility, there was only 7 drives detected. We buyed Data Rescue 2 (great software) and techtool pro, didnt saw the missing drive. And yes sadly they were RAID 0, can't do anything. We buyed 2 new SAS tower formated in RAID 5 and started to backed up everything. We called our Drives provider aby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: RENDERING HDV - 15 years agoYours system is a bit too slow, the firewire drive you are using is not that good too. Thats why you got those huge render time. The time specs of nick are really precise. I did a test too : 4 layers of HDV 1080i60 (split in 4 pictures ) + sounds Rendered in 3 minutes and 6 secs. on a MAC PRo 2x2.8 quad core INtel xeon with 6gb of DDR2.
