Re: FCP 7: Error - Out of Memory occurring too frequently! - 10 years agoI've suffered from this in the past with FCP7 when placing b/w images that were too large. The best advice I ever got was to keep the image below 2000 pixels measured along its longest side.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: Blu-ray - 10 years agoAnother vote for Encore. I had a project where the client wanted 6 BluRays and 1 DVD of the same footage. I got all the way to the end of the edit in FCP7 and forgot that I couldn't create a menu for my BluRays in DVDSP so Encore saved my butt. Very flexible program.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: Out of Memory error - 11 years agoJeez, if YOU guys can't agree on the specs, how can meer mortals like the rest of us ever hope to get this sorted out?by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: Blu-Ray from FCP X - 11 years agoI've quit using LTH discs as it appears to be a "compromised" technology intended to save the manufacturers a bit of money, possibly at the cost of compatibility:by Dave Morrison - Café LA - X Re: Out of Memory error - 11 years agoI've been using scanned images 2000 pixels horizontal at 150 dpi and it seems to work with FCP7. However, I've always been a bit unclear if FCP prefers .jpg's or .tiff's. I've defaulted to .jpg's as the file size would be smaller but am I doing this wrong? I also had to bump up the memory allocation for still images, too.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: Genreal Error -- making life miserable. Time urgent! - 11 years agoI also used to get those "General Error" messages when I'd attempt to render a sequence that contained still photos that were too large.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: Contant crashes FC7 - 11 years agoI'd run a system hardware check to verify that all your memory is within spec. Something is definately wonky here.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: Graphics cards - 11 years agoJude, did you finally get your 8800? I pulled one out of my MacPro 3,1 back when I was getting ready to move to FCPX but I decided to stay with FCP7 for a while longer. I was about to jump to PP but chickened out and decided to wait for PP 6 to see what that would bring. One thing that kept me from jumping ship to PP was not knowing if my old 8800 would work well or not.by Dave Morrison - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: MacPro 3.1 (early 2008), Radeon 5770 or 5870 and FCPX? - 12 years agoI have a 3,1 as well, but it still has the original GeForce 8800 GT. What would be the best card to upgrade to or would my 8800 work okay?by Dave Morrison - Café LA - X Re: OT: Atomos Ninja...this looks ridiculously cool!! - 12 years agoI'd love to hang this onto a new Sony FS100!by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: OT: Atomos Ninja...this looks ridiculously cool!! - 12 years agoThat looks like a winner to me, too. Do you know if anybody is making a locking-type HDMI cable yet? I still don't feel safe trusting these consumer-grade connectors.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: New iMac with 2 Thunderbolt ports = Death of MacPro? - 12 years agoThank you for that, Craig. That's what I was afraid of.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: New iMac with 2 Thunderbolt ports = Death of MacPro? - 12 years agoCan anybody speak to whether they think a Thunderbolt PCI card for my MacPro is a possibility? I contacted Promise's Tech Support on the day they announced their Thunderbolt-enabled RAID drive to ask if they would be releasing an adapter card for it so I could add it to my MacPro. They gave me the impression that it wasn't even possible.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: OT: Thank you Larry Jordan - 12 years agoMichael, could it be made into some sort of requirement that everybody has (HAS) to fill out a sig file with all that data included?by Dave Morrison - Café LA - X Re: Format problem - 12 years agoPG Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Tom, > > Thanks for your assistance this morning. The drive will sometimes be recognized but more often not when I'm attached using the SATA cable. If I use the USB cable (this is a dual interface dock), the drive will be recognized for a couple minutes and then self-eject the drive.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: OT: WE'RE BACK! - 13 years agoMichael Horton Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There isn't one. Plus, if you hit the back button to get you back to the main list, it leaves the threadby Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: OT: WE'RE BACK! - 13 years agoHey Michael. This may be a complete brain fart on my part, but I can't seem to find the link we used to have at the bottom of a thread that returned you to the main Cafe LA page. Am I missing something really simple here?by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: Can't Import Media from Sony EX3 - 13 years agoYep, you HAVE to keep that BPAV folder intact or it really confuses the import. You might try opening the .mp4 file with something like VLC and then export the file in one of the formats it supports.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: 32G SXS transfer to data DVD - 13 years agoOkay Shane, you can kick me in the head if you want to, but doing SxS file copying/transferring with Clip Browser AND having CRC error checking turned ON gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: Electrical Question - hummmmmm - 13 years agoI agree with Dean's advice completely. The cable TV connection is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to hum problems given the differences in ground "potential". Try removing the cable TV connection somewhere upstream from the cablebox or router or TV....whichever way you are attached to the cable system.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: The Great Gamma Problem - 13 years agoJust butting in here, but how does the change in gamma in Snow Leopard factor into this? I believe the whole system went from 1.8 to 2.0 with SL, no?by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: RS232 vs. RS422 vs. Me - 13 years agoOh well, they weren't able to do anything for me. Back to the drawing board, I guess.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: RS232 vs. RS422 vs. Me - 13 years agoThanks Adreas. I'm in contact with them now.by Dave Morrison - Café LA RS232 vs. RS422 vs. Me - 13 years agoI have an old deck that has a DB25 port using RS232. I'd like to control it in FCP but my Matrox MXO2 has a DB9 with RS422 (IIRC). Is there a way to control this deck?by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: De-interlacing from FCP for Youtube - 13 years agoI've been using the settings found on this page: I've created a droplet in Compressor and put it on my desktop. I just drop the SCQT file onto it and it turns out very nice looking files for upload.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: Safe To Use Snow Leopard With FCS3 Yet? - 13 years agoJoey, I think the ExpressCard 34 issues have been ironed out at least on the Sony driver side. I'm running Snow Leopard and FCP 7.0.1 and cutting my Sony EX1 footage with it.by Dave Morrison - Café LA Re: OT: Blu-ray on Macs soon? Don't hold your breath. - 13 years agoJohn K Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- <snip> In any case, don't expect to be able > to add a BR burner to any Mac in the Apple Store > or experience BR playback in OSX any time soon... > > JK I'm assuming you mean not being able to order a pre-configured Mac from the Apple Store with a BR burner in it, right? I'm curious if there are any iby Dave Morrison - Café LA |
