NTSC footage - every 5th and 6th frame is the same - 9 years agoAs I understand, it's NTSC 23.976 footage (which I don't have access to) edited onto a 29.97 fps timeline. Is there a simple way to remove every sixth frame?by MetalGuru - Café LA Text Merge Effect - 9 years agoIs there a filter that will achieve this effect, or do I have to create a some layers and do it with keyframing? Thanks everyone! video:by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: what after Cinema Tools? - 10 years agoI'm finding it very worrying that all the apps we use day to day are no longer being supported by Apple in favour of iTunes or streaming delivery.by MetalGuru - Café LA Strange problem with duplicate frame footage - 10 years agoSomebody has given me a ProRes movie file that runs at 30fps (not 29.98) and every fourth frame is a duplicate frame. Is there a way of removing the duplicate frames and then doing a reverse telecine back to 23.976?by MetalGuru - Café LA Hinge/folding text effect filter? - 11 years agoI'm looking for an effect that's like text being "hinged" up or down. You can see an example in this trailer, at the 1m 42s point. And in this trailer, at 38s: I'd love to know how this effect is done. Can anybody help?by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Water/fluid effect filter needed - 11 years agoThank you - that's fixed the problem. Can you advise how this affects the rendering, and how you knew it would work? I'm hoping to learn something new at the same time.by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Water/fluid effect filter needed - 11 years agoI'm having a real problem with this Sapphire effect - it looks fine un-rendered, but when rendered I'm getting white sparkles around the text. I've also tried saving it as a ProRes 4444 transparent file but again I'm getting a sort of rainbow sparkling around the text. Anyone have any suggestions? ProRes 4444:by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Water/fluid effect filter needed - 11 years agoFree two week trial, fully working! Perfect for me - will have a look through the rest of the filters to see if it's worth us investing in them in the future.by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Water/fluid effect filter needed - 11 years agoJust downloaded a trial of Sapphire and you're right, the filter is perfect!by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Water/fluid effect filter needed - 11 years agoWow, sadly I can't afford that sort of money. All I need the effect for is this one trailer and the budget is low (as usual). Is there anything else I could use?by MetalGuru - Café LA Water/fluid effect filter needed - 11 years agoHi all, I'm currently working on a trailer restoration and I'm hoping to match the effect as seen on the text in this trailer. Can anybody help? I've tried the "Ripple" effect but it's not the same at all. Is there any other filter that will do this as closely as possible to the original?by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Interlacing problems converting NTSC to PAL - 12 years agoI have no idea how to check pulldown consistency. Is this something I can easily find out?by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Interlacing problems converting NTSC to PAL - 12 years agoI've seen lots of American released DVDs with a 29.97 frame rate. I guess it's mastered from an older source tape or is just a cheaply done telecine.by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Interlacing problems converting NTSC to PAL - 12 years agoCan anybody help please?by MetalGuru - Café LA Interlacing problems converting NTSC to PAL - 12 years agoI've recently been supplied with some NTSC (film sourced) footage on a DVD which I'm editing into a PAL project I'm working on. The NTSC footage is 29.97, so I ripped it to ProRes (HQ) in MPEG Streamclip and performed a reverse telecine on it in Compressor which resulted in a 23.976 file. This file was then conformed to 25 fps in Cinema Tools, and then NTSC to PAL converted in Compressor. QuoteStep 1: Spot the Audio onto the Timeline. Step 2: Right Click on the Audio and Select "Change Speed" Step 3: Enter 104.271 into the Rate Box (this is the 4.271% NTSC to PAL speed increase), and click OK. Step 4: Aby MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Help synching 23.98 audio to 25 video - 12 years agoI'm sitting here wondering why the files just don't synch as they should. If we could work that out it would save me a lot of time. Anyone?by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Help synching 23.98 audio to 25 video - 12 years agoI've done as you suggested and the synch difference is around 100.18%. However, I'm wary of doing this for the whole movie as it still doesn't look entirely accurate for all of the dialogue scenes - and on top of this, there are ten reels in all totalling 100 minutes to adjust.by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Help synching 23.98 audio to 25 video - 12 years agoNick Meyers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > for a quick fix just adjust the speed of the sound > in FCP > > i do this in the timeline: > find a sync point at the beginning and at the end > of a clip of decent duration Sadly I'm working on an old feature film from the 70s. Strange eh?by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Help synching 23.98 audio to 25 video - 12 years agoThanks for the feedback and your continued patience guys. I've now spent a day and a half trying to get the audio in synch with no luck. I tried importing onto a FCP timeline then exporting and conforming to 25fps in Cinema Tools but no luck. I'm convinced the problem has something to do with the initial FCP timeline setting I'm using for the WAV files for export to Cinema Tools. I've trieby MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Help synching 23.98 audio to 25 video - 12 years agoOK, I've opened one of the files up in Wave Agent and it doesn't state a Frame Rate. I saved a file to 25 ND and imported into FCP and sadly the synch is still not lining up. I'm told by the lab that they are broadcast wave files. He said there are Pro Tools and BWF files. I'm afraid I have no idea what I'm going to do - I need the job done by today.by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Help synching 23.98 audio to 25 video - 12 years agoThe files have the .WAV extension. They may I'm told be 23.98 Psf? They were transferred from the feature film's original track via a Pro Tools session. The folder name is: TITLE_Reels_1_10_Eng_DME_NDF and in the folder: TITLE_Reel_No_Eng_COMP_NDF.wav (dialog, music & effects tracks combined) TITLE_Reel_No_ENG_DX_NDF.wav TITLE_Reel_No_Fx_DX_NDF.wav TITLE_Reel_No_Mx_NDF.wav allby MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Help synching 23.98 audio to 25 video - 12 years agoThanks for the suggestions. I'm using FCP 7.0.3, so I'll try the second option. The audio files are 24 Bit / 48 kHz / 24 Bit Integer. Can I use them as is, or do I need to convert to 16 bit for FCP? I seem to be having a problem getting FCP's audio setting the same as the files. Timelines I create seem to be 32-bit Floating Point and so need rendering.by MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Help synching 23.98 audio to 25 video - 12 years agoThe video file I have is 25fps. Therefore, I had hoped I could change the audio rate to 25 fps in Cinema Tools but it only allows the import of video files. So I thought that instead I could change the video file to 23.976 to match the audio rate, then once it was all synched, change it back to 25 fps. But it seems there's a problem with the conversion of the video file to 23.98, causing themby MetalGuru - Café LA Re: Help synching 23.98 audio to 25 video - 12 years agoI changed the speed of the original 25 fps video file to 23.98 to hopefully synch with the 23.976 audio to no avail. Importing as is. 2. Changing the video frame rate to 23.98 (using Cinema Tools) 3. Importing the audio files into Audacity and exporting as AIFF (Apple) signed 16 bit PCM. I was under the impression that 23.976 fps was in fact progressive, yet when I open the footage in MPEG Streamclip it states: 224 MPEG-2, 720 ? 480, 4:3, 23.976 fps, 6.00 Mbps, upper field first Does "upper field first" indicate that the video is interlaced? I must admit to being rather confused about this.
