Re: WARNING: Mac OS 10.6.6 UPDATE (ProKit 6.0.2) - 12 years agoI'm still running 10.6.2 and was thinking about updating the OS. However, things are running relatively smooth (maybe a little slow) so I don't want to update unless it's going to be a benefit to my system. A search o 10.6.6 - 6.7, seems to be causing a bunch of headaches for users. Moreover, these updates don't seem to be offering much in the away of improved stability, speed, etc...by Joe Riggs - Café LA Adding clips to sequences automatically? - 12 years agoHi, I did a search, couldn't find an answer so I'm assuming it's not possible but before I give up let me check with the pros. In Premiere Pro, there's an option called "automate to sequence". for certain types of projects this can save a bunch of time. In short, you set markers in the time line, select a group of clips in the browser, and it will automatically place those clipsby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Best method for transcoding red footage to pro res? - 12 years agoI think I would like to just transcode once and do an online edit from the get go. Furthermore, I'm not interested in doing a one-light or color grade on each clip before I transcode. With that in mind, I tried transcoding one clip using the following methods. Unfortunately, as Jeff mentioned most resulted in a radical color shift from the original footage. I kept look source as "cameby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Multicam DSLR footage WITHOUT creating reference files? - 12 years agoQuoteThese workarounds are only for projects where there is no synced timecode going to all cameras and audio, an all too familiar situation in DSLR land This is exactly the type of project I'm dealing with. I've synced up the clips and I'm able to do a multiclip by using the reference file method. However, when I try without creating refrence files, I get 40 angles instead of 4. How do I makby Joe Riggs - Café LA Multicam DSLR footage WITHOUT creating reference files? - 12 years agoAwhile ago, someone told me about a way to multicam dslr footage without creating the reference files. The reference file way is shown here. From what I remember you would sync up then clips and cut the tracks, so the first clip of each track lines up at a common in point, then drag all the clips to a new folder in the browser...then my memory gets a little fuzzy...Any one know? Tby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Videos flipping 180 degrees! - 12 years agoDouble check that problem section/clip in your timeline. Double click it, check the filter and motion tabs and make sure you have nothing in these two tabs that might be rotating that section. If you don't and that section plays fine in the timeline, export a self contained quicktime of just that problem section to see if it's still present.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Working on multiple projects scratch disc - 12 years agoWorks great, thank you sir!by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Best method for transcoding red footage to pro res? - 12 years agoThanks Graemeby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Best method for transcoding red footage to pro res? - 12 years agoAndrew, You are making a ton of assumptions. Believe it or not before posting my question, I scanned numerous posts on reduser.net and read the entire "Ultimate Guide to Using the Revolutionary Camera" book. Since the book is 2 years old and there are numerous ways to transcode RED footage, I simply wanted to get some thoughts from others on HERE who have worked with the format.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Best method for transcoding red footage to pro res? - 12 years agoMac Pro Quad Core 4 TB - Raid 0 I'd like to have everything trans coded asap but I don't have a red rocket so I realize it's going to take a while. I don't think I'm going to go back to the raw Red files but I wouldn't mind having that option but as of right now I'll be cutting and finishing on pro res 1080p.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Best method for transcoding red footage to pro res? - 12 years agoHello, What's your favorite method of transcoding red footage to pro res? Log and transfer? Red Rushes or some other program?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Good chair for long periods of editing. - 12 years agoI'm in the market for a new computer chair in the range of $300 or less any recommendations? Has anyone tried Murch's method of forgoing a chair all together and standing up while editing? Thank youby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: OT: A Good Editor?? - 12 years agoI've heard this before but never paid much attention to it maybe someone can help explain it to me it was something like snapping your fingers to find a rhythm and cutting to it?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Timecode breaks on client supplied tapes - 12 years agoIt's been awhile since I worked with tapes but I remember being able to set FCP to capture over timecode breaks in user preferences.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Working on multiple projects scratch disc - 12 years agoMike, thanks for the link.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: How do you move a clip from Viewer to canvas without its audio? - 12 years agoI see detach a1A1.by Joe Riggs - Café LA How do you move a clip from Viewer to canvas without its audio? - 12 years agoI'm sorry TIMELINE not canvas. Often times I find myself in the situation where I just want to bring in video without its audio, how is this done? Thanksby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: F9, F10, F11, F12 Not working on FCP 7.0.3 - 12 years agoI might be out of luck on this one but maybe someone knows a solution. I'm on a Logitech wireless keyboard that I use for both my mac and pc. I'm trying to get F9 and F10 to work as shortcuts for insert and overwrite edits. The buttons do work but instead on performing those edits they act as the buttons to shrink all FCP windows so you can see the desktop and every window open. Whenby Joe Riggs - Café LA Working on multiple projects scratch disc - 12 years agoWhen working on multiple projects on at the same time (stored on different drives). Let's say I work on project X in the day and project Y at night, do I need to reset the scratch disc every time I open each project? If I set both drives up as scratch discs will that eliminate the need to switch it every time?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: How long does it take to cut a feature? - 12 years agoExcellent points Jeffby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: How long does it take to cut a feature? - 12 years agoThanks all the feedback, yeah double system, no assistant. They have an unrealistic expectation for a rough cut which concerns me greatly. I think I need to have a talk with them and set some realistic goals as Nick suggested. I'd like to stay on the gig as I've been wanting to cut a feature for some time now.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Dealing with directors - 12 years agoWhat's the approach you take when dealing with a director through the course of cutting a project? Is there such thing as an editor's director?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Is there a way to tell how many items are in a bin? - 12 years agoJude, I wanted to make sure I didn't miss a clip when syncing up footage, so I wanted to compare the number of clips in the original bin to the synced one.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Is there a way to tell how many items are in a bin? - 12 years agoWithin FCP, is there a way to tell how many items are in a bin? I also want to confirm that you can only duplicate a bin by copy and pasting it. Thank youby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoWill we be able to have FCP 7 and X on the same system?by Joe Riggs - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoWith FCP X, it seems they are implementing aspects of other pro aps like STP (audio fades), which I think is a good thing. Has there been any mention of updates to the other pro apps? Is there going to be a new Final Cut Suite?by Joe Riggs - Café LA - X Re: OT: contract with clients - 12 years agoJeff, Great points, I like the first part of #4 but not the second; many projects go over 1TB and if you're working on multiple projects at a time, you'll have to buy a bunch of hard drives.by Joe Riggs - Café LA How long does it take to cut a feature? - 12 years agoWhat's a reasonable time frame for an editor (working without an assistant) to reach picture lock on a 90 min feature with a 10:1 to shooting ratio?by Joe Riggs - Café LA |
