Re: Smart Slate editing - 12 years agoI read up a little about Smart Slates, how do I know if they Jam Synced the camera? Does it even matter for FCP, I read you need Avid and its auto sync feature to take advantage of it?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Smart Slate editing - 12 years agoHello, This is my first time working with a project that was shot with a smart slate. I assume they are used in order to facilitate syncing via timecode? In order to take advantage of this what's the proper work flow when I try to sync? Thank YOUby Joe Riggs - Café LA X amount per week - 12 years agoTo freelancers, When you're working form home and a client is paying you X amount per week, what do you consider a week? 5 days M-F, 6 days, 7? Thanksby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: OT: contract with clients - 12 years agoAnyone have a link to a contract template?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Footage delivery from Mac to PC - 13 years agoPremiere (CS3 and above) can edit HDV natively. Although the windows version does not have a preset, it can also edit ProRes files. You can either create a new sequence and manually enter the clip settings or drag a clip onto the new item icon and a new sequence will be created for you with the appropriate settings. However, if he's starting a brand new edit, just use the original HDV files.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Testing DVD output from COmpressor prior to burning - 13 years agoIs there a way to do fast forward in DVD Studio Pro? I thought there was not that option.by Joe Riggs - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Should I encode to DVD through compressor or DVD Studio Pro? - 13 years agoi figured it out, the "choose source" option. My only question is if I encode in compressor do I need to "build" in DVD Studio pro or can i go to format? Because if I "build" it doesn't that re-encode my .m2v file that I made in compressor?by Joe Riggs - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Should I encode to DVD through compressor or DVD Studio Pro? - 13 years agoDid you make a new movie file (from the original FCP sequence) with a new name? yes Did you put that new file into Compressor? Yes Did you import the new file into the DVD Studio Pro project? Did you make a new track (rather than duplicating the old one)? no, I just deleted the old file and inserted the new asset. Did you put the new asset into the new track, rather than copying theby Joe Riggs - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Should I encode to DVD through compressor or DVD Studio Pro? - 13 years agoI created a new track and linked it. It still gives the same result. Do I need to build the dvd if it's already encoded in compressor?by Joe Riggs - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Should I encode to DVD through compressor or DVD Studio Pro? - 13 years agoThis is really frustrating, but I think I've isolated it to something in DVD Studio pro. The quicktime has the logo at the end The encode from compressor has the logo The track in DVD Studio pro has it but when i burn an image from studio pro, it stops after the creditsby Joe Riggs - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Should I encode to DVD through compressor or DVD Studio Pro? - 13 years agoput the logo into final cut in the original sequence with movie, exported quicktime, encoded in compressor burned in DVD studio pro.by Joe Riggs - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Should I encode to DVD through compressor or DVD Studio Pro? - 13 years agoIn the timeline after the credits there's a logo that should come up. I exported a self contained quicktime and took it to compressor to encode for dvd. When I watch the quicktime - the logo comes up after the credits. When I watch the dvd version the movie stops after the end credits. The logo doesn't come up. I'm going to try and add a slug after the logo and maybe this will do somethingby Joe Riggs - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Copy protection macrovision? - 13 years agoHas anyone tried implementing these on DVD's made with DVD Studio pro? Do they actually prevent copies?by Joe Riggs - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Should I encode to DVD through compressor or DVD Studio Pro? - 13 years agoSend to compressor or export self contained quicktime and let DVD Studio handle it? Which produces better results? Any settings to note in order to get the best image? Thank Youby Joe Riggs - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Flicker free titles and scrolling text? - 13 years agoTom, Thanks for the info, I understand that they initially output to film but they eventually encode it to DVD? Moreover, maybe I'm just going crazy but I just looked at the scrolling credits of a couple of DVDs of blockbuster films (on multiple tv's) and they flicker/strobe as well.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Flicker free titles and scrolling text? - 13 years agoAndrew, Please do that would be greatby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Flicker free titles and scrolling text? - 13 years agoAlso film is usually digitized and edited on NLE systems, unless the standard end scrolling credits are created in a different program?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Flicker free titles and scrolling text? - 13 years agoIt's for a short film but shot on video, so on TV shows the credits flicker? If that's the case ( I assume do to conversion progressive HD to regular DVD) and there's no solution so be it, I just don't want to delude the client into thinking they will get flicker free credits.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Flicker free titles and scrolling text? - 13 years agoTried motion blur - not much help. I even recreated the credits in photoshop, saved to to a png with transparency and it still flickers. This is incredibly frustrating, I see these on films all the time, what is the secret?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Flicker free titles and scrolling text? - 13 years agoI'm in a 1080p project that I burned to DVD. Watching it on a TV, the titles exhibit a little flicker but the credit crawl flickers so bad it is nearly unwatchable. I understand this is exacerbated due to compression from 1080p to Standard def mpeg-2. In FCP, I see no flicker in the titles but I do see it in the credit crawl. My question is what can be done? Is there another filter that Iby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: FCP to STP pan settings not transfering? - 13 years agoI apologize if my initial post was unclear, the pan is set to zero and it was done in the way you mentioned. In FCP the files play in both channels in STP they do not for some reason.by Joe Riggs - Café LA FCP to STP pan settings not transfering? - 13 years agoHello, I'm trying to mix a project started in FCP. This is my first time using STP, so I did most of my audio work in FCP. The dialogue was recorded mono but came into FCP as a linked stereo pair. I went ahead and adjusted the level to zero in the viewer for all clips. When I go to STP, the clips play only on the left channel.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: What is the equivalent effect in FCP? - 13 years agoI can't seem to get the tracks "uncoupled" which I assume means separating A1 and A2, which are currently linked.by Joe Riggs - Café LA How to raise volume of entire track in timeline? - 13 years agoHello, I'm sure this is real simple but how do you raise the volume of entire track in timeline instead of individual clips? Like every clip in A1 and A2by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: HD footage of scene under strobe lighting looks very pixelated and degraded - 13 years agoI agree with Derek, the traditional video camera is better for run and gun type of situations, unfortunately, in low light places, the footage can be nearly unusable. An on camera video light would help but you would still have to be pretty close to the subject.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: HD footage of scene under strobe lighting looks very pixelated and degraded - 13 years agoYikes, looks like it was shot with a cell phone. For low light I would recommend a DSLR 5D or 7D, you can bump up the iso rather high and still have a decent looking image.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Back end percentage? - 13 years agoI have been offered a small percentage of a film in lieu of money to do some work on it. I saw some of the film and it's pretty bad, my initially reaction was absolutely not! However, apparently there are really bad movies that get distribution... Have you been offered a back end percentage instead of upfront money? Did you take it? Did the project eventually yield any monetary gain?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: How do you like to organize your raw footage and editing workflow? - 13 years agoOk, well let's just focus on narrative film and if anyone has any comments on my workflow I'd love to hear it.by Joe Riggs - Café LA |
