Is it possible to gang multiple finder windows together? - 10 years agoI’ve seen this done before, and it definitely comes in handy for comparing files on multiple drives but I can’t figure out how to do it, is it a app (I know there's one that allows tabs in the finder), searching google hasn’t yielding any results for me. Thanksby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Waveform Monitor boo-boo forewarned - 10 years agoThis seems like a really important post, but I'm having difficulty grasping it. The waveform monitor sometimes shows sub blacks, sometimes not? Is there a fix or is this just something to be aware of and take into account when color correcting in FCP?by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Audio rates 44100/32 vs 48000/6 - 10 years agoAndrew, I have explored this and done this with other productions. I'm dying to get a signal into the camera! However, because the camera (ALEXA) has a line level input only, simply attaching a mic to the xlr input won't work. Anyone experienced with this camera please chime in. I'm not familiar with audio/line level, etc... but from what I understand because it's line level, the signal frby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Audio rates 44100/32 vs 48000/6 - 10 years agoDerek hit the nail on the head, just a bunch of unnecessary extra work. Andrew, thanks for naming that program, I'll look into it. Ben, this has been another bone of contention. He can't jam sync TC (doesn't have the equipment), so I requested a scratch track into camera. The camera, requires a line level input, so I guess it's more complicated than usual to get a feed into the camera thaby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Audio rates 44100/32 vs 48000/6 - 10 years agoNever mind, investigated it, mixer is using some mickey mouse setup so it's a limitation of his equipment.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Audio rates 44100/32 vs 48000/6 - 10 years agoThank you, I actually discovered another issue, it's solvable but just inefficient. Typically, I'm used to getting 1 audio file per take, and that file will included all the audio tracks recorded for that take, so when I drop it in the timeline, all the tracks are connected. This production sound mixer has been recording each track separately, so for scene 1 take 1, I'll have 4 files:by Joe Riggs - Café LA Audio rates 44100/32 vs 48000/6 - 10 years agoHello, Calling all audio experts. I'm doing a bit of quality control for a project and I just got the first batch of dailies. I see the audio has been recorded at a sample rate of 44,100/32 bit. Now I thought the minimum one should record audio is at 48,000 khz.. My question is this, by it being recorded at 44,100, is that bad? The transcodes were for the offline. He's working on a 23.98p project, but they will be shooting some it with a camcorder for a different look. That camera only shoots 30p (or it could be 60i). There will also be dialogue during these moments, so audio speed needs to be preserved. Now, someone suggested the sound mixer record dialogue for those scenes at 30fps.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Visual Effects workflow - 10 years agoFirst time handing off VFX to a VFX artist and trying to figure out the best workflow. However, even after following the instructions (it's possible I did something wrong), when it asks me to select template xml with generator, I navigate to where it is and the xml is grayed out. I ended up using Submerge, pretty simple...open movie, import subtitle file, and export. I need to unsqueeze and possibly transcode the footage. I haven't worked with film in ages but from what I recall, I should expect to get a drive with a large file or a few large files on a harddrive, depending on the amount of rolls shot. The subs are in a .txt file that I imported into Encore for the SD DVD. Now for a international festival, the film needs an Pro Res HD copy with hardcoded subs. I don't want to have to recreate the subtitles within the editing program. Is there a way I can import the text file to Premiere or FCP via xml? So you will actually edit the film in sections until picture lock? I do this for a bit when cutting the rough, but then I'll put all scenes into one sequence and edit in that big sequence until we're locked. I miscalculated by saying 9 exports; the film is actually 90 minutes. Since I currently have the entire film in one sequence, would theby Joe Riggs - Café LA Editors have you ever received this request? - 10 years agoI'm nearing picture lock on a film and I received an interesting request from the individual that will handle the post sound. The person wants me to break the film down into 15 minutes reels and send the sound that way. Their reasoning is "the track count can get rather high and I won’t be able to do as much sound design if the film is in one giant chunk". Have you ever expeby Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: R3D in Premiere CC - 10 years agoYep, Premiere's ability to cut almost anything native is one of its great strengths. The time you save by avoiding transcoding especially with red footage is fantastic. Has anyone cut a long form RED project in Premiere? I cut a 15 minute short and the project file ending up being 100+ mb, so i'm kind of concerned that on a longer project one could end up with a 500-900mb project file, which Iby Joe Riggs - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Multiple frame rates 23.976, 29.97 and 25 - 10 years agoIt's actually 30p and 25p.by Joe Riggs - Café LA Re: Multiple frame rates 23.976, 29.97 and 25 - 10 years agoHey J, Yes, the 23.976 stuff is 98% of the project. Now we are talking about purchasing some stock footage to use in that project as well. The stock footage has different frame rates (most clips are either 29.97 and 25 FPS). I'm assuming I'll need to convert these clips to 23.976 using Compressor or another program. Most of clips have extra audio at the beginning and so I'm laying them on the timeline and cutting the heads and tails. When I cut the head the clip with ctrl+V, the link between the audio and video gets disconnected as it associates the very beginning of the audio clip with the video, and I end up have to relink them.
