OT: MiniDV quality - 16 years agoUltimatley is Mini DV format going to be high quality enough for the big screen. Will it suffice for a high quality documentary, given the right exposures (lighting, sound)? Thanks for your input. Rickby newptfot - Café LA Documentary Format - 16 years agoHi all, still a rookie here but I have a opportunity to do a surf documentary for a group of people. I fell into a large amount of 16-mm film shot in the 60s, 70s, 80s all of it has been digitized. The footage I have previewed appears excellent not like some super 8-mm I've seen. My question is I shoot with a Canon XL2, GL2 and XH-A1 (SD so Far), I will have a mix of stills, Interviews and theby newptfot - Show and Tell Re: Video of a local Philly Band - 16 years agoThanks Derek, "nudge the scroll wheel a smidge" those wheels are touchy and the slightest bit too high clips. I did buy a Rode NTG-2 with a sock on it better but as you say a smidge goes along way. When I use my XL2 plugged in to a sound board it's effortless, don't like that cam at small venues. Rickby newptfot - Show and Tell Re: Video of a local Philly Band - 16 years agoHi Derek, I follow this forum and like your comments. I know there are many ways to record live music, but in your opinion what is the best way to record a small band in a bar setting, IE not plugging into a sound board. I use both GL-2s and Xl-2s using the meters on camera the music still seems to clip. Thanks for any info. Rickby newptfot - Show and Tell Re: Burn a DVD with oversized assets? - 16 years agostrange I used you exact settings on a two and one half hour and my file was 5.7 gig in size....what would be the difference? It was a quicktime export from FCP. Why wouldn't DVD SP ask or give an option for large files automatically? Rickby newptfot - Café LA Re: Import Beatles song......am I crazy? - 16 years agoThe version I have is from the Beatles 1962-1966 double album, In My Life plays fine on a stand alone CD player. Import and play in I-Tunes fine....export to Cd as AIFF put on desk top import into FCP project it plays a Barougue verion at 1:33 in time line am I nutts? I just tried it on another G-5 in FCP and it's fine weird?by newptfot - Café LA Import Beatles song......am I crazy? - 16 years agoI have imported In My Life (Beatles) into my project in I-Tunes it plays at 1:33 sec the harpsicord music in my time line in plays a different version. Am I cracking up....If I take it off CD onto my desk top play it in I Tunes its fine, then import from desk top to project it plays different at 1:33 seconds? I have tired to import into other FCP projects same thing, I have even renamed the songby newptfot - Café LA OT:video deposition - 16 years agoLast minute call from client asking me if I was "certified" for videoing a living will testimony. I'm not certified does anyone know the requirements and or text to include to certify the recording? Rick P.S. Rickby newptfot - Café LA Quicktime Convertion format movie - 16 years agoFCP 5.0.4, Dual 2.7 ghz, OS10.4.9, 3.5 gig of ram I am using FCP 5.0.4 and I am exporting footage from my FCP timeline to a Quictime movie format 35 min, never had this problem before. A single track no effects, color correction, no transitions nothing, exports on several tries to about 20% then hangs up. No beach ball just sits there, sometimes it will get to 15% never more than 20% and stoby newptfot - Café LA Re: To those using iMacs for editing - 16 years agoI have tried OWC and they are incredible, Scr***** LaCie the run hot and fail 1 out of 6 times. Rickby newptfot - Café LA Re: Kozikowski ? re: audio advice - 16 years ago"Do the tracks stay raspy if you plain reduced the track volume on the timeline? Clipping is a magic thing and sometimes you can rescue a slightly damaged track that way". The audio is really only marginal when the two singers sing louder, the lower level songs and speaking parts between songs are fine. Lucky for me the visual part is great haha. I will try a few of your suggestionby newptfot - Café LA Re: Kozikowski ? re: audio advice - 16 years agoThank You all for the imput, I hate audio! Travis by coincedence I was just at Post Modern for a replication order for a client, I will make a few calls. Rickby newptfot - Café LA Kozikowski ? re: audio advice - 16 years ago"That's the worst one. I have a note in to someone who's making "anti-distortion" software, but it's not intended to repair clipping--and it only runs on PCs. " Koz, you seem very knowledgeable on sound, I have a project that came out of a mixing board, 50% OK, the rest was alittle raspie (hot) over modulated. Have there been any major problems after loading FCP6 using projects from FCP 5.0.4, as far as the search, quicktime seems to be the only hiccup and I don't really think that has been a problem. Rickby newptfot - Café LA fire wire card? - 17 years agoAre fire wire and capture cards similar? I have asked about Kona Cards etc, and am just curious? "To drop the other shoe, you can buy a FireWire card for pretty cheap to get more ports that don't interfere with the FireWire connections inside the Mac. That is the recommended way to run external storage *and* a deck or camcorder at the same time with great success. It's me again, I have captured tapes with four channels from an XL-2, using different capture presets. Some capture set up for 1st channel and some capture second channel. Does FCP compress upon cature? Also how much is lost from rendering, sorry if this doesn't make sense, just trby newptfot - Café LA Video capture cards? - 17 years agoBeing a rookie at most here, my question ia do Kona cards or the likes of Aja etc. improve Mini DV video before, during or on export? They don't un-compress as I can tell, they just improve capture abilities , real time effects etc when editing, is this correct. Can someone please tell me how to get four channels into FCP 5.0.4?by newptfot - Café LA audio capture from XL-2 Help! - 17 years agoI have seen this posted and serched the forum but have not seen the answer yet. I recorded several interviews on a XL-2 various channels 1/2, 1/3 and 3/4 upon capture in FCP the volume is low or not there. I have tried capturing straight from the camera with the channels selected that they were recorded on but it doesn't show up in FCP?
