Re: Apple Mighty Mouse vs Magic Mouse - 13 years agoI only use the Microsoft Bluetrack mice now - their laser tracking is awesome and 100% smooth!by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: FCP7 - 13 years agoFollowing on that - I don't think the Log and Transfer uses multicore either - which is a real shame since converting from Red or even Canon H264 to ProRes takes a long time on just dual core! Sigh....eagerly waiting for vast under the hood improvements for FCP... CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Like the new forum! - 13 years agoNice to see the new face lift to this forum. Nice work Mike and company! CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: FCP log and transfer for P2 card footage, audio issues after transfer. - 13 years agoI would suggest that is a bug. That checkbox should be smart enough to analyze each clip and not muck with clips with standard pulldown and only apply the pulldown removal to clips with Advanced pulldown cadence. That's my opinion anyways... CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: FCP7 - 13 years agoYou should see some vast improvement on rendering and exporting from the raw speed of the new chips but not from using all cores. FCP doesn't use all cores for rendering. For normal cuts only editing, you prob won't notice much. But the Share feature may use multicore - not positive about that. Maybe someone can confirm or deny that... CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Mixing USB - eSATA - Firewire drives - 13 years agoWhat about those new USB 3 by Caldigit? Can't wait to try one...by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Shark Stock Footage - 14 years agoI edited a collection of short films for the Smithsonian's Ocean Hall and we used a ton of UW stock - check Nat Geo, www.fitzproductions.com, Ocean Footage, Howard Hall, Feodor Pitcairn Productions and NHK. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: APPLE RELEASE NEW MACS!!! (In August) - 14 years agoDoesn't matter to me how many cores are crammed into a machine if the apps aren't natively coded to use them. Until FCP can use all the cores to render, I don't see myself upgrading. I already have a 8 core and 7 of them aren't being used currently. Compressor can use them but why do I have to set up a cluster? Why doesn't compressor natively see all my cores? Does Color use multicores tby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: New Motherboard=Lost Serialization - 14 years agoThat's why I keep all my SN# on a text file on a flash drive. Not too hard to do.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Steve Jobs and FCP - 14 years agoAll my long form broadcast shows still require HDCam outputs. Sounds like things are different for spots and short forms though. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Steve Jobs and FCP - 14 years agoI am definitely going to add Media Composer 5 to my system now that I can monitor with the MXO2 Mini. Since I'm mostly an offline editor anyways, that's all I need. But if you need to capture and output to tape, their Mojo and Nitris is still overpriced. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: 24PN for Broadcast - 14 years agoAll true Strypes. Since TVTerry did not mention Color in his original post, I did not take that to be an issue. It appears to be mostly straight cuts. And in this situation, I think 24p with pulldown sounds the most logical.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: 24PN for Broadcast - 14 years agoIf it's for broadcast then shoot 24p (with pulldown). Since you need to add it at the end, why not just shoot with it in the first place. It'll eat up more card space but I think you'll be thankful that you don't have to worry about the cadence when you output. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Which is better Method of capture from DVCAM?(help settle a debate) - 14 years agoDepends on your workflow. If you are making straightcuts only, then uncompressed or pro res won't give you much. If you pulling keys and other heavy graphics environment then Pro Res is the way to go. Uncompressed is an old workflow these days (imho). CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Mulicam edit using mixed 1080p and 1080i - 14 years agoCompressor/codec also needs to be the same. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA ARIB Bars - 14 years agoSo I was talking to Dan Desmet from FSI and he was saying that those working in HD should be using the ARIB bars for calibrating instead of the old SMPTE bars. I was curious how many of you out there are using the ARIB bars? CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: OT: 60i vs 30psf, or "Why does my footage look like butt?" - 14 years agoTruly impressive explanation! Thanks Jeff!by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: 1080p30 vs 1080i60 - 14 years agoI am also new to working with 1080p30. All of my experiences in the past has been 60i, 24p and 25. My knowledge of 1080p30 (Sony HDV in this case) is that it is still 29.97fps but both fields are scanning the same instance in time hence no jitters on a freeze frame. FCP would show the compressor as 1080p30 but vid rate as 29.97 for my HDV 1080p30 clips. So I was confused when Shane saidby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Breakout Box and HD NTSC Monitor Suggestions - 14 years agoIt'd prob run you $3000 at the cheapest. A $2500 FSI 17" 720p monitor and a blackmagic card with SDI out for about $300-$600. To do it for "real." Other will propose a MXO which in my humble opinion is a last resort. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: RT performance tanks when mirroring on desktop and sending out all frames - 14 years agoThis is a tricky one. I upgraded to 10.6 and FCP 7 (kona 7.5 as well) at the same time from a clean install. And right after that I was editing a narrative project so it wasn't really stressing out the RT at all. And now I'm working on something with more layers and big photos and alpha channels so I'm noticing the lack of RT. But I was also noticing the weakness in RT before I hooked upby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA RT performance tanks when mirroring on desktop and sending out all frames - 14 years agoI remember this back in FCP 3 or 4 years ago but it's back again! I'm on an 8 core 2.8ghz, 16GB RAM, 10.6.2, FCP 7.0.1 with a Kona3 SDI out to a FSI 2450W. Currently editing DVCProHD 720p30. When mirror to desktop is on along with sending out all external frames, the RT performances tanks! Even on Full and Preview green, I get drop frames. As soon as I disable mirroring, the same sectiby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Render 24PN normal - 14 years agoHa, yea. I did presume it was HD. I would guess the P2 cameras can shoot SD at 24PN as well. It's tapeless, why not?!? Honestly, I kinda lost the thread of what happened. I don't know how he fixed it but hey, it's fixed. He's happy and that's cool with me. I would cut the clips from your DV sequence and paste them into an empty DVCProHD 24p sequence just to be safe.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Render 24PN normal - 14 years agoyour QT movie says it's DV50 at 29.97! Did you check the item properties in FCP or in QT player first? That's why you have to render.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Render 24PN normal - 14 years agoIf you can, upload a 5 sec clip at native res. Maybe I can check it out.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Render 24PN normal - 14 years agotry using an easy setup for your 720p24p DVCProHD.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Render 24PN normal - 14 years agoFrom my hazy memory: 24PN should 23.98. 24P should be 29.97 with 23.98 in a 2:3 pulldown 24PA should be 29.97 with 23.98 in a 2:3:3:2 pulldown. 24PN is only achievable when shooting onto cards. 24PN should fit inside a 23.98 sequence without having to render.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: OT - What's a half hour show length these days? - 14 years agoAnd PBS will take almost anything up to 57min for an one hour.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA |
