Because it doesn't seem any faster... CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Faster way to make TC Burn? - 15 years agoHey guys, Tom's method is interesting with compressor using a virtual cluster on an 8 core - it's damn fast. Haven't used it to make TC yet but I'll try it. Have you guys heard of an "bad join" at the dividing points where Compressor "joins" the pieces back together from the virtual cluster? Some sort of jump in the picture? I haven't seen it myself but my friend says hby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Faster way to make TC Burn? - 15 years agoDear Smart People, This may be a bit of a wishful thinking but I'd love to find a way to make a long form TC burn in faster. I'm usually working on 60 or 90min shows and when we need to upload a digital file or make DVDs - rendering the burn in, usually DVCProHD 720p, just takes a damn long time - even on my 8 core and caldigit Raid 5. I think that's just the way it is for now but does aby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: HD Raid Array System? - 15 years agonicknasty Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Uncompressed HD is a pretty tall order, even for > Octo. Uncompressed HD is not a tall order if you have the right drives (fast raid). So for you who didn't know - now you do - go and download and use it cuz it's great. If you already knew, then why didn't anyone tell me??? : ) CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Panasonic 1200 deck using firewire, audio capture question. - 16 years agoYes, FW should be able to carry all 8 channels into your mac. Do you actually have 8 discrete tracks of recording? CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Kona 3 -- too much card for this boy? - 16 years agoRight...analog....Damn you Joe! Who needs analog these days? JK... John K, I wouldn't get the HD10AVA. I'd look into the Blackmagic analog to SDI mini converter for $499. Cheaper and does the same thing. Joe is right - AJA have awesome tech support. Give them a call...by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Kona 3 -- too much card for this boy? - 16 years agoThe Kona3 is pretty damn awesome! The ability to up/down/cross convert is fantastic and works pretty flawlessly. We've been doing the up and cross for the past couple wks on multiple SD/HD sources and it's been great. We are editing in uncompressed 10bit. I think the price between the K3 and ioHD is pretty similar - for me, the IoHD for the same price is a bit limiting but it's portable and Pby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Videwer functionality changed in 6.0.4 - 16 years agoAndreas, Thanks for your detailed reply, as Joey's as well. Both your tips have made it a bit easier to work with masks today in AE. I'm glad that we can all have a discussion in a cordial and helpful manner. Cheers! CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Videwer functionality changed in 6.0.4 - 16 years agoAndreas, since you asked.. Take a producer I work with. She can crop in FCP cuz it's simple and intuitive. Not very powerful granted but again she just needs a simple top, bottom, left, right crop. They have sliders for that. She doesn't need to use any cmd/shift/option modifier to adjust anything. How do you know a plugin won't behave differently? You've obviously never used this croby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Videwer functionality changed in 6.0.4 - 16 years agoBut I just need to crop the edges. I don't need a kidney bean shaped mask. I just need to crop those damn top, bottom, left and right. This is a case where there is too much power to do a very simple thing. Why can't there be both a masking option and a simple cropping option? Not asking you- just asking the gods.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Videwer functionality changed in 6.0.4 - 16 years agoIn my long winded ways, I was trying to say that I'm all for customizing but i believe it should be presented in a elegant and user friendly method/UI. AE is indeed great for affects but not perfect either. I hate the fact that I can't just crop an image in AE. I have to make a mask - too much work for a simple crop. It's happened to my MBP twice and got the screen replaced twice with AppleCare. It was quite shocking to see how good AppleCare was. First time, I mailed it to AppleCare in TX. They sent me a box overnight. I mailed it back prepaid overnight. They got it, replaced the screen, and sent it back out overnight all in the same day. Whole process took 3 days. The downside to this is that almost any features can have an on/off switch. It can be annoying if you don't set that submenu properly. I wish they would refine that or give us true smart rendering....by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: is it possible to batch render? - 16 years agoIt works in 5 and 6 - definitely used it not too long ago in 6. A work around is to open all the sequences in the timeline and changed your auto render to 1 min and render all open sequences. The dialog box will make a new master clip for you. You will have to drag it back into the appropriate bin. It's not a bug. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: 6.03 not compatible with 6.02?? - 16 years agoWith there not being a major upgrade at NAB, perhaps the Pro Apps team is doing some serious code rewriting to address some of these old issues. Or imagine how much time they would have if they didn't need to support a new HD codec every 6 months.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: 6.03 not compatible with 6.02?? - 16 years agoNot to be an anal retentive stickler about this. This was NOT always the case. None of the dot upgrades within 3 required a project upgrade. And I'm pretty sure none of the 4.0.x upgrades required a project upgrade either. Only from 4.0 to 4.5. And 5.0.1 to 5.0.4 - did those require an project upgrade? I'm thinking no...not 100%. It's really only been the recent. 5.1.x and now 6.0.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: 6.03 not compatible with 6.02?? - 16 years ago6.03 and 6.0.2 is not compatible.by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Memory usage!?? - 16 years agoAre you sure about the max RAM on that model being up to 16gig? Everymac.com lists the Dual 2.3 G5 at only 8gig Max. Check out the link...by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Memory usage!?? - 16 years agoI think that model of G5 only supports up to 8gigs. That may be a reason why it's only showing up as 2.5. And as Jude said, check the pairing. FCP can only use 4 gigs, but having more than 4 will be beneficial if you have other apps opened at the same time. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: Aspect ratio incompatability - 16 years agoWhat is your Track set to inside DVDSP? Sounds like your track is set to 4x3. Change it to 16x9 letterbox. The means the track will play 16x9 or 4x3 letterbox depending on your player setting. Once you ran your 720p thru Compressor, the resulting mpeg2 is SD. No need to make a separate SD QT from FCP as Marcus2 described. It would be an extra step. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA Re: timeline indicator - 16 years agoDid you know that Motion has the option in the preferences? But the RT really goes down when you turn it on. I think Soundtrack Pro also has this option. Sigh - one of the things we lose when it's all software driven.... -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA |
