Hey guys, Tom's method is interesting with compressor using a virtual cluster on an 8 core - it's damn fast. Haven't used it to make TC yet but I'll try it. Have you guys heard of an "bad join" at the dividing points where Compressor "joins" the pieces back together from the virtual cluster? Some sort of jump in the picture? Faster way to make TC Burn? - 15 years ago
Dear Smart People, This may be a bit of a wishful thinking but I'd love to find a way to make a long form TC burn in faster. I'm usually working on 60 or 90min shows and when we need to upload a digital file or make DVDs - rendering the burn in, usually DVCProHD 720p, just takes a damn long time - even on my 8 core and caldigit Raid 5. FCP Rescue 6 working in 10.5.4 - 15 years ago

The Kona3 is pretty damn awesome! The ability to up/down/cross convert is fantastic and works pretty flawlessly. We've been doing the up and cross for the past couple wks on multiple SD/HD sources and it's been great. We are editing in uncompressed 10bit. I think the price between the K3 and ioHD is pretty similar - for me, the IoHD for the same price is a bit limiting but it's portable and Pby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

Andreas, since you asked.. Take a producer I work with. She can crop in FCP cuz it's simple and intuitive. Not very powerful granted but again she just needs a simple top, bottom, left, right crop. They have sliders for that. She doesn't need to use any cmd/shift/option modifier to adjust anything. How do you know a plugin won't behave differently? But I just need to crop the edges. I don't need a kidney bean shaped mask. I just need to crop those damn top, bottom, left and right. This is a case where there is too much power to do a very simple thing. Why can't there be both a masking option and a simple cropping option? In my long winded ways, I was trying to say that I'm all for customizing but i believe it should be presented in a elegant and user friendly method/UI. AE is indeed great for affects but not perfect either. I hate the fact that I can't just crop an image in AE. I have to make a mask - too much work for a simple crop. Yes, it's the monitor. It's happened to my MBP twice and got the screen replaced twice with AppleCare. It was quite shocking to see how good AppleCare was. First time, I mailed it to AppleCare in TX. They sent me a box overnight. I mailed it back prepaid overnight. They got it, replaced the screen, and sent it back out overnight all in the same day. Whole process took 3 days. As long as it is checked in the render submenu under Sequence menu. It can be annoying if you don't set that submenu properly. I wish they would refine that or give us true smart rendering....by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

It works in 5 and 6 - definitely used it not too long ago in 6. A work around is to open all the sequences in the timeline and changed your auto render to 1 min and render all open sequences. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

That means the master clips has indeed been deleted from the browser, inadvertently or on purpose. The dialog box will make a new master clip for you. You will have to drag it back into the appropriate bin. It's not a bug. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

Not to be an anal retentive stickler about this. This was NOT always the case. None of the dot upgrades within 3 required a project upgrade. And I'm pretty sure none of the 4.0.x upgrades required a project upgrade either. Only from 4.0 to 4.5. And 5.0.1 to 5.0.4 - did those require an project upgrade? I'm thinking no...not 100%. Are you sure about the max RAM on that model being up to 16gig? Everymac.com lists the Dual 2.3 G5 at only 8gig Max. Check out the link...by Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

I think that model of G5 only supports up to 8gigs. That may be a reason why it's only showing up as 2.5. And as Jude said, check the pairing. FCP can only use 4 gigs, but having more than 4 will be beneficial if you have other apps opened at the same time. CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA

What is your Track set to inside DVDSP? Sounds like your track is set to 4x3. Change it to 16x9 letterbox. The means the track will play 16x9 or 4x3 letterbox depending on your player setting. Once you ran your 720p thru Compressor, the resulting mpeg2 is SD. No need to make a separate SD QT from FCP as Marcus2 described. It would be an extra step. -CHLby Chi-Ho Lee - Café LA
