Re: post path for Feature with BWF audio - 15 years agoHi Nick, a 00:00:00:00 offset in the ALE file indicates that the TC from the Flying Spot Scanner & the Audio Player's BWF have identical TC, hence no offset. Check the BWF TC & the Video TC to verify that this is in fact the case & that the Telecine operator didn't just neglect to enter the TC Offset. A lot depends on the slating procedure that was used on the shoot. If for exaby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: post path for Feature with BWF audio - 15 years agoWell as long as your log files for the timecode BWF are checked for the the amount of offset required to reestablish sync, you should be able to conform your BWF files to the fine cut by applying the appropriate offset. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: post path for Feature with BWF audio - 15 years agoHi Nick, Why not disregard the audio from the telecine transfer & sync your rushes in the traditional fashion using the BWF's. Then export an OMF file for the audio post. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: OT: RIP George Carlin... - 15 years agoA mere youngster compared to Dave Broadfoot (the hororable member of parlement for Kicking Horse Pass) who is 83 & one of the funniest men on the plannet. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: OT: RIP George Carlin... - 15 years agoI came across a clip of this guy on for the first time internet about a month ago. I thought he was a great advocate for the enrichment of the english language. Sorry to hear he's no longer with us. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: OT: TV Tuner for Computer Monitor - 15 years agoI stand corrected , you can plug a set of computer speakers into that unit, but the output is VGA & you may not have that port free on your Cinema display. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: OT: TV Tuner for Computer Monitor - 15 years agoYou could try one of these, but you still need an audio amp. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: OT: TV Tuner for Computer Monitor - 15 years agoVCR's usually connect to a TV which has an amp built in. Feed the line outs to whatever sound system the speakers are are plugged into or go to the Salvation Army & pick up an old HI ?i set for 10 bucks. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: OT: TV Tuner for Computer Monitor - 15 years agoYou'll also have to patch the audio rca's into an audio amp & there may be cheaper or better adaptors than the one that Apple makes. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: OT: TV Tuner for Computer Monitor - 15 years agoNo the VCR tuner is a TV minus display device. Just plug the the S video or RCA composite signal into the adapter turn the tuner in VCR to the channel you want to view & you should be all set. All the best. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: OT: TV Tuner for Computer Monitor - 15 years agoHi Mike, Have you considered using an old VHS vcr's tuner & Apple's DVI to Video Adapter? Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Final Cut Studio UPDATE out - 16 years agobenefits was uncool a couple of minutes ago, so I updated to QT 7.4.5 & now have Apple's blessing to join the bleeding edge. However the benefits of doing so at the moment don't appear to me to be sufficiently compelling. I think I'll remain luke warm for a day or two, till the reports come in from the front line regarding casualties & spend the time instead mulling over the Final Cutby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: FC Express 4 - trade-offs? - 16 years agoBonnie has FCP 4.5 on her system. If anyone can remember using it a few years back it was a pretty decent version of the software. For the price of a plug in she gets FCE, Boris Calligraphy & Livetype. Meets the NLE editing needs of a great many people who a currently running FCP. Now she has 2 licenses, one for FCP & one for FCE. As each new upgrade appears she decide whether she wantby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Plug-in manager 1.7.3 released - 16 years agoI can't see any good reason to download this at the moment, but if a point upgrade appears in the near future will install before updating the apps. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: FC Express 4 - trade-offs? - 16 years agoHi Bonnie, It sounds like it probably would be a good solution for you, providing that the flavor of HD you are going to be using is nothing higher than HDV & using Apple Intermediate Codec is good enough for your needs. Its only $199 & includes LiveType 2. Don't sell your FCP 4.5 as you might find out down the road you get some work where you need the whole shebang& you'll beby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: inexpensive control surface for color ? - 16 years agoInteresting gear Andrew, but I'm not going to hold my breath that Apple's going to give us access to get full value out of these units. I'd be tempted to go an MC Mix & MC Control, but not with Apple's lackluster support for control surfaces in FCP & STP. Control surface support in FCS 1 seemed promising, but zero progression with FCS 2 was a disappointment. Perhaps another casualtyby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Harry - King Of The Crashers - with a new anti-crashing tip. - 16 years agoHi Harry, Have you been able to determine whether the media still resides on the drives, whether the cables themselves are caput, or whether turning your system off for a few minutes or overnight might again permit the drives to be again stable. Sorry to hear that you are being put through this pain. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: inexpensive control surface for color ? - 16 years agoApple didn't have much time to update Color before FCS 2 was introduced. Hopefully in the next version for Color they will add support for the Tascam control surfaces that many of us use FCP & Motion (FCP using Cubase protocol & Motion using Midi). If Color Correction can be done in Motion by using the pots & sliders to automate the changes using Midi, it should be possible to iby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: How I learned to reduce crashes with no pain. - 16 years agoHi Harry, Good to hear you found a work around for your problem. Usually people run into problems from having too many sequences open in the timeline & the answer to that is to close down some of the sequence tabs in the timeline. But it sounds like you pushed the envelope in a different manner. Approx. how many sequences did you have in the Browser? Did you have multiple sequences witby Dave Hardy - Café LA Another Time Saving Tip - 16 years agoIf you are working in 10.5 & you cant remember the keyboard shortcut or what menu column the command lurks in, save yourself some time by going to the Help Menu. At the top of the menu is a search window. Say I want to use a sound effect from Soundtrack Pro in FCP, but I just want to bring the effect into FCP not export the FCP project to STP. The HDV question. - 16 years agoOf course 70mm is preferable to 35mm, but shouldn't every production be shot in IMAX. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: bringing video into Live Type - 16 years agoHi Kathy, You don't do this with place as background. The procedure is, click on the layer in the timeline, then go to the Inspector window & select the Attributes tab. Under this select Matte. Then click on the matte to button & select movie or image. This will bring up a window which will allow you to set the path to your video clip. Dave Thanks Dave Can I use this for a tip/trick of the week in the newsletter? Michael Horton --by Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Leopard and Tascam FW 1082 - 16 years agoIt's working on my system with 10.4.11. I installed 10.4.11 when I saw a posting from a 1082 user who had it working on his 1082. I always use the Cubase drivers in Tascam's 1082 Manager so that I have pan control on all tracks, & this function is still working in 10.4.11. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA A Tip - 16 years agoEver been frustrated because the Q key only cycles between the Viewer & the Canvas, but you're currently in the Browser so the Q shortcut won't work? Why not use the Mac OS shortcut Cmd+Shift+Tilde. This will cycle not only through the four main windows in FCP, but all the windows yo have open in the program. On my dual monitor setup, I have the Timeline, Viewer & Canvas on one monitoby Dave Hardy - Café LA Useful info for STP users with control surfaces - 16 years agoWith the documentation for LogicPro 8 Apple has posted a 245 page Control Surface pdf manual. Lots of useful info that would have been nice to have had for STP 1 or STP2. For me the stuff I am going to try out is on page 199-200. These pages explain how to program the the various EQ settings & the AUX Sends for the Tascam FW-1082. Logic 8 works with dozen of different control surfacby Dave Hardy - Soundtrack Pro |
