Re: Multitrack exchange. - 17 years agoMy gut feeling is that there will be future versions of Soundtrack Pro. I think their priorities for version 1 was to get the program beyond the music loop program that the original Soundtrack program was & I think they did a good job as far as they went. I expect that version 2 will have at least OMF import & export between FCP & Soundtrack Pro. Personally I'd rather do my final sby Dave Hardy - Soundtrack Pro Re: FCP is a revolution in editing for the indie filmmaker, but are movies the better for it? - 17 years agoHi Vic, I think that a well written script that has something meaningful to say in addition to it's entertainment value & the best cast you can come up with are the main ingredients. You can't make a digestible meal out of a turd. If you have the right ingredients to work with the editing will come naturally. The trouble with most of the crap that has been released post Star Wars is that thby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Sound Track Pro tricks of the trade -- how to score a movie without a budget - 17 years agoHi Vic, I just came across the thread were you posted a link to your trailer. I thought you did a great job of the trailer. I probably wouldn't buy the DVD as I'm the kind of guy who goes to see over a hundred film a year on the big screen. You did with the trailer what I wish the majors would do with their productions. You introduced the audience to the characters & gave use a teaser asby Dave Hardy - Soundtrack Pro Re: Sound Track Pro tricks of the trade -- how to score a movie without a budget - 17 years agoGood to here that it worked for you. Daveby Dave Hardy - Soundtrack Pro Re: Sound Track Pro tricks of the trade -- how to score a movie without a budget - 17 years ago> how do you save a STP Project with all its elements AFTER you edit a sound bite under another tab? Let's say, I click and open a sound bite of 4 seconds long, let's say a car screeching to a stop, and then do a fade out in the editor window -- now after I flatten and go back to my multiple track view, the sound bite carries the fade out ok, BUT when I try to save the project, the program wonby Dave Hardy - Soundtrack Pro Re: Sound Track Pro tricks of the trade -- how to score a movie without a budget - 17 years agoYeah it was a bit of a challenge Mike. The process felt very similar to making a film production. All the best. Daveby Dave Hardy - Soundtrack Pro Re: Sound Track Pro tricks of the trade -- how to score a movie without a budget - 17 years agoI set up a Film School Program here in Vancouver back in 1987. Was head of the program from 1987-1990. I suggested to the owners that they call it The Vancouver Film School. They dropped the word "the" but the rest of my program remained in tact for the 3 yrs. that I was in charge. I taught Post-production & on occasion Cinematography. The first 2 editing machines we acquired wby Dave Hardy - Soundtrack Pro Re: Sound Track Pro tricks of the trade -- how to score a movie without a budget :-) - 17 years agoGlad to hear that it worked out for you. The independent short film & feature film maker never had it so good. STP is a great tool for the purpose it was designed for & your application is exactly what it was designed to do. Professional sound designers (guys who make their living building tracks & mixing for other folks) will by & large not be impressed, as now the filmmaker canby Dave Hardy - Soundtrack Pro Re: What's the best way to get started using motion? - 17 years agoWith Motion & LiveType 2 you should place In & Outs on the individual portions of the timeline that you want to add titles or graphic effects to & work on these segments separately. Daveby Dave Hardy - Motion Re: FCP or Avid? Which to use and when - 17 years agoI got my 1st full time editing job with CBC television in Toronto 1969. Moved to Vancouver in 1970 & over the next 7-8 yrs. cut with rewind benches, upright moviolas & Steenbecks. Got my 1st gig teaching filming SFU in Vancouver 1975-76. Had the university buy a 2 gang synchronizer with sound head & we made a half dozen double system films in super 8 in addition to the 16mm productioby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Best way to get 8mm into FCP for HDV edit - 17 years agoGo to the link below. This is the most active Super 8 forum on the web. The consenus seems to be that Pro 8 does terrible work despite their equipment. Flying Spot in Seattle gets raves. The situation may be different for someone actually in L.A. where you would be able to make physical contact with Phil & his staff. Check what the current Super 8 community has to say. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: The Don'ts of picture editing are fewer so they should be shared early--help out - 17 years agoIt should be a lot easier next time as the 24 fps functions of Cinema Tools are being integrated directly into the interface of FCP 6. No more Cinema Tools. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: fianl cut express??? - 17 years agoI started with FCP 1.25, then upgraded to 2, 3, 4, 4.5 Production Suite (which included Motion 1 & DVDSP3) & FCP5 Studio. I haven't sent my 5 Studio suite discs in as yet to get the Universal Binary version as I am the tower Macs with the Intel Core 2 processors (Conroe) which will be announced August or Sept. hopefully (I can wait.) If FCP 6 is available sooner, I may pick up that upgrby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Apple not shafting FCE users like FCP users - 17 years agoI'll be doing the crrossgrade to FCE as soon as it arrives in the stores here. Until the tower units ship or the next version of FCP is annnounced I think I'll stick with my FCP 5.04 Studio package. However I would be willing to pay twice the $49 crossgrade price if they would put 5.1 in a Box that I could pick up at a local Apple dealer. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Apple not shafting FCE users like FCP users - 17 years agoApple just released a Universal binary version for Final Cut Express. Unlike FCP users Express users don't have to send their disks back to Apple in order to get the upgrade, they just go to their local store & pay the $99. It would be helpful if Apple would clarify what their policy will be for FCP users who have no need to upgrade to the Universal version until the Conroe Intel Tower Macsby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Quicktime FCP5 audio mystery? - 17 years agoTry using compressor Dan. All the best Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Quicktime FCP5 audio mystery? - 17 years agoI'd suggest you doubble click on the clip in the timeline to bring it up in the viewer & check to see if the audio taps are present at the top of the viewer window. If no audio tabs then check your capture settings to make sure not set to video only. All the best. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Quicktime FCP5 audio mystery? - 17 years agoCan you see audio tracks 1 & 2, but the tracks are empty or are audio 1 & 2 invisable in the timeline? Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Quicktime FCP5 audio mystery? - 17 years agoAre you saying that there are no clips in the audio tracks or just that you just don't see any waveforms in the audio tracks? If the latter is the case, then Cmd OPT W wiil bring up the waveforms. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: OT: Church of Final Cut Pro - 17 years agoGee whiz! I thought it was the National Association of Broad Caster Outers. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: OT: Church of Final Cut Pro - 17 years agoDisturbing to see so few women there. Looks more like a gay pride meeting. Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA Re: Last night's meeting w/Dede Allen - 18 years agoIf DVD unavailable is audio podcast a possibility? Daveby Dave Hardy - Café LA |
