Re: OT: Arri Alexa records to ProRes - 14 years agoAvid MC 5 will support QT (including ProRes) natively. So that more or less solves that problem for Avid editing.by JustinB - Café LA Re: OT: Arri Alexa records to ProRes - 14 years agoUsing H.264 as an offline is a stretch. But it can be converted to ProRes or DNxHD. I might be willing to trade the transcoding time for footage periodically arriving via FTP. All these new workflow possibilities... My head is spinning. It's gonna be a dream for DITs.by JustinB - Café LA Re: OT: Arri Alexa records to ProRes - 14 years agoGraeme is also being modest in not mentioning the improvements in timing of the new RED MX sensor. Apparently it's getting close to a film shutter. At least in skew. I'm not sure how the Alexa compares in that regard.by JustinB - Café LA Re: OT: Arri Alexa records to ProRes - 14 years agofilmman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Now I can edit in FCP 5.04 with manageable size > files and output for easy to match 2k later. But I'm just interested in the workflow.by JustinB - Café LA OT: Arri Alexa records to ProRes - 14 years agoSo last night at the DGA Arri officially revealed the Alexa digital camera system. Of notice to FCP peeps is that one of the recording options is straight to ProRes (4x4 and HQ) via two onboard SxS cards. It also passes a FCP XML for metadata. They're calling it "Direct-to-Edit". Pretty slick.by JustinB - Café LA Re: FCP certification concerns? - 14 years agoFinally went and took the Level One test at Moviola. Passed with "96.15%", but I can see where it throws some people off. It's very much oriented towards what keys to press, and UI nomenclature. Glad I took it as it was a great incentive to review my knowledge of FCP. Learned a few ways to do things that I didn't know before.by JustinB - Café LA Re: Devil's Advocate asks: Why bother with Color? - 14 years agoGrading RAW RED footage, or transcodes?by JustinB - Color Re: HD color correct monitor recommendation? - 14 years agoShane Ross Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > No, that's consumer. I'll be doing some OMFs this week, and you may have saved me some trouble.by JustinB - Café LA Re: OT: Apple Tablet - 14 years agoJohn August, "How screenwriters will use the iPad"by JustinB - Café LA Re: FCP certification concerns? - 14 years agoGood post Kylee. Getting Apple certified can't hurt. It's a competitive field, and every little thing in your favor helps. If nothing else, it shows that you're the kind of person who tends to dot their I's and cross their T's. I've been using FCP since version 1.25, I'm a full time editor/assistant editor, and I'm looking to get certified for FCP and Compressor as soon as I get some time.by JustinB - Café LA Re: Red One workshops for DIT and Editors - 14 years agoThere was a site that just had a bunch of R3D footage for download (redrelay.net,) but it went down. I had to hunt around the reduser.net forum for a while and finally got some random RED clips, but I can't remember where from now.by JustinB - Café LA Re: Red One workshops for DIT and Editors - 14 years agoI'm just finishing my second RED feature as assistant editor now. I more or less learned from the RED FCS whitepaper. Install the software, hunt down some RAW RED footage on the internets, and experiment with transcoding, etc. Develop a workflow--there are a lot of options. That will get you started. Also, you'll want to go to "RED Day" on February 13 if you can.by JustinB - Café LA Re: Which Deinterlace in 3.5? - 14 years agoDid Frame Control changes ever appear in the Preview window? Seems everything is RED these days.by JustinB - Café LA Re: Motu HDX-SDI, anybody heard any advance information? - 14 years agoI hope it's solid. Love the TC display. And I must be one of the few people rarely doing HD/SD scaling.by JustinB - Café LA Re: AJA/Blackmagic/Matrox shootout? - 14 years agoI've been wanting an objective comparison like this for years.by JustinB - Café LA Re: End Credit Roll in Motion4 - 14 years agoYeah, but how do you create the gutter?by JustinB - Motion Re: tablet anyone? - 14 years agostrypes Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > She said hands, not feet...
