Re: additional info - 13 years agoHDV, 24p or 30p. OS X 10.6.4, Quicktime 10.0 and also have Quicktime 7. Have tried capturing onto a couple of different RAID 1 and RAID 0 Caldigit VR drives, each has about 150 gigs free. What happens is I open Log and Capture and then just play a tape from the camera, it sort of freezes every 20 seconds or so, as if there's a dropout. But I don't see any dropout in the camera playing the tapby Jeff Nelson - Café LA additional info - 13 years agoI tried to capture a tape that I had captured a few weeks ago (before the upgrade to FCP 7) and knew the tape was good. I can't capture that tape now either, has breaks every 10 or 20 seconds, as if drop outs. I'm thinking I either have a bad firewire cable, which I'm going out to buy a replacement, or else something in FCP 7 is majorly screwed up, and I guess I need to reinstall it and see iby Jeff Nelson - Café LA continuous dropout errors -- when none exist?? - 13 years agoJust purchased/installed FCP 7. Am trying to capture a tape I shot, capture stops it every 30 seconds or so, signalling a dropout. However, there's no visual dropouts when I play the tape. It's fine. When I go back to try to recapture, it captures the portion fine that it previously reported a dropout, then gives me a dropout a minute later. In other words, it seems to me that the tape is fby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Caldigit VR Raid one FAIL -- any advice? - 13 years agoThanks so much, guys. Called CalDigit, they asked what model and so on, said it sounded like a known problem w/older power supplies that start getting squirrely. So he had me put the power supply from the working one over on the one that was messed up, and voila, it started working fine. So big relief, just need to replace the AC power supply, and we're back! Thanks for the advice guys! Anby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Caldigit VR Raid one FAIL -- any advice? - 13 years agoHi there: Bought a couple of CalDigit VRs from a friend about a year ago. Today I am getting a message repeatedly that a disk was ejected improperly, as though I had unplugged the drive or disconnected it. In reality, the drive is making some noise and it's taking itself off, and putting itself back onto the system. I have tried to copy some stuff onto another drive, it copies for a few minby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: hard drive for docu - 13 years agoThanks for the suggestions. Yes, I have shot put pro. Cheers. Jeffby Jeff Nelson - Café LA hard drive for docu - 13 years agoWhat's a good drive to take on the road while shooting? I have a couple of CalDigit VRs that I use at home and like. Going to be shooting DSLR, copying to laptop, then to drive in PM as a second storage on the road. Any suggestions? Am thinking of another CalDigit VR, the 4 TB model which I can connect w/firewire 800. Weighs 6 pounds, might be overkill. Thoughts? Thanks, and happy 4tby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: multicam -- dissolves in full timeline - 14 years agoMany thanks. This worked!by Jeff Nelson - Café LA multicam -- dissolves in full timeline - 14 years agoAm cutting some talks using multicam, straight cuts. Would like to replace every cut with a 1 second dissolve. Is there a way to do this globally, without having to go and manually put a dissolve in each cut? Thanks.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Capture prob -- captures full reel -- but only 30 seconds shows up in FCP?? - 14 years agoVince -- that worked, thanks. Just did a SAVE of the clip in quicktime. When I opened FCP, it said clip was offline. I went to reconnect, it said the attributes were different, I continued anyway, and then it's all there now. Good workaround, thanks again.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Capture prob -- captures full reel -- but only 30 seconds shows up in FCP?? - 14 years agoOkay, interesting. Will give that a try. Thanks.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Capture prob -- captures full reel -- but only 30 seconds shows up in FCP?? - 14 years agoNope, nothing out of the ordinary in the file names, thanks.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Capture prob -- captures full reel -- but only 30 seconds shows up in FCP?? - 14 years agoOkay, I opened it in Quicktime, did a Save As w/a new file name. *That* file, FCP can see the full length. So there seems to be an issue with FCP capturing and not seeing the media end correctly? Never had this before, but have had it with a few tapes here, which I will have to do Save As in Quicktime before I can open in FCP, in order that FCP sees the full length. Very weird problem...by Jeff Nelson - Café LA one more - 14 years agoWhen I look at the Properties of the clip, I see this: Note how it's showing the media end a fully hour earlier than the actual end of the media when I look at the same clip in Quicktime. Help...! I've captured and re-captured this clip three times, same thing every time.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Capture prob -- captures full reel -- but only 30 seconds shows up in FCP?? - 14 years agoSorry, that is: FCP 6.0.6 OSX 10.5.8 Quicktime 7.6.4 Never had this happen before. Editing normal DV NTSC. Check this out: See the first shot, it's showing the length of the clip as 31 seconds, and the Media Start as 08:00:33:03 and the Media end as 08:01:04:15 That's where it's getting the 31 second length that it's showing me. However -- the actual end of media is 09:02...sby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Capture prob -- captures full reel -- but only 30 seconds shows up in FCP?? - 14 years agoI have captured a tape a couple of times. It's one angle of a guy giving a talk, about an hour long. I do "capture now" and capture it into FCP. But when I then open the shot, it's only 30 seconds long. There's no "in/out" set next to the shot for some reason. When I open the clip in Quicktime, I get the full 60 minutes of the clip. It's all there. But FCP only seesby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: media manager crashing - 14 years agoYeah, I read Derek saying that somewhere here. Part of why I wanted to move is that I had a big project which I did in a hurry and it sprawled across 5 different drives. By copying it and having it on a new drive, I'm able to do a major cleanup and blast free a bunch of space. Things are working a bit faster now. :-) Won't let that happen again...by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: media manager crashing - 14 years ago5th time's a charm! Got it to work this time. I think the problem was my main drive was too full, like over 90%. Part of the reason I was moving this project is that I had it spread out across a few drives and wanted to consolidate. I moved/deleted a bunch of stuff from my main drive and got it down to like 50%, and then tried and it worked fine. So maybe it needed swap space or some such andby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: media manager crashing - 14 years agoWow! Thanks Derek and Nick. Some great ideas for different ways to get this done. Really appreciate, and will give these a try, am sure I can get the rest of the media over. By the way, I did a copy and not a delete unused, so it's all there, and I'll be able to try any of these ideas. Thanks again.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: media manager crashing - 14 years agoNo, it's been crashing at different points. Gives me a message that it can't copy a file, I press Skip, it goes a bit then crashes... Trying again now...by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: media manager crashing - 14 years agoHey Nick: Thanks, I actually meant copy -- I'm using the Copy feature and then plan to delete once I've got it copied to the new drive. I'm trying to move a single timeline which has media scattered over a few drives to a raid drive, and then lose a lot of the extra stuff I captured but don't want to keep on my system. Re: the crash, it's gotten to about 96% and then crashes. Quite annoyiby Jeff Nelson - Café LA media manager crashing - 14 years agoI used media manager and successfully moved a 40 minute show. I'm trying to move a project that's about 2 hrs 20 minutes, and it keeps crashing. I turned off everything but FCP. Any idea why this might be happening? Thanks.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: Can't reconnect offline media??? - 14 years agoUpdate: I just rolled back to an earlier version from yesterday, and was able to reconnect everything w/out problem. Dont' know why all the path info had disappeared in the other version. Curious. Anyhow, I'm back in biz w/out probs.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Can't reconnect offline media??? - 14 years agoI moved some stills and music from one drive to another and removed the originals (they're still in the trash and I can put them back easily enough). I opened a project and it's showing a bunch of missing still and music files. No problem, reconnect the stuff, or some of it. A bunch still offline, so I highlight the offline file, and click to Reconnect Media. Only no missing media shows uby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: 2 Caldigit FirewireVR Units @ 640 GB ea - MAKE ME AN OFFER for BOTH UNITS !!! - 14 years agoJoey, I got a couple 1 TB Hitachi drives and put them in the Raid 1 unit tonight. And I just wanted to say that I got the drives, they are exactly as described by Joe, I'm a happy buyer, he's a solid seller. Thanks, Joe!by Jeff Nelson - lafcpug Market need to save project, but not all the extra footage - 14 years agoHi guys: I know there's a way to do this, and I know you can tell me. I have a show I did, I want to keep the show on my computer, but not all the extra footage that I didn't use. So what do I do to save a project file which only contains the footage in the show (maybe plus some handles, if they do that, but whatever). Then once I have a new version of the edit which has only the footageby Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: It's that time of year -- firewire drive dies in middle of project! - 14 years agoHi Gerald: Yes, running Disk Warrior seems to have helped. I'm using FW800 on that drive. Thanks again to all.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA Re: It's that time of year -- firewire drive dies in middle of project! - 14 years agoGood idea. Will see how far I get. I was going to just deep-six the problem drive, but will see what reformatting it does. Thanks again.by Jeff Nelson - Café LA |
