OT: High def projectors - 17 years agoI do work for a non profit that needs to project an HDV show I'm working on. They decided that it would be better to spend the money and get a projector rather than rent one considering the current one is 12 years old. The project will be sent to the projector from an FX1. I'm looking at a Dell that has 1080i capability and 3000 lumins but the connection would be composite, or an Epson that has cby kevin - Café LA Re: Antivirus software - 17 years agoDon't install any virus software! It causes many problems with capture, dropped frames on playback, etc. Keep them off the network. Thats great virus protection. Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: POLL : Do Lacies Actually Suck Or Not? - 17 years agoI've used an 80 gig for 4 years no problems. Of course I'm tempting fate by saying that, but for me it has worked fine. A lot of the problem issues I've seen on the forum come from people daisey chaining 4 or more together and wondering why they have issues. You know, the people with 400 gigs of footage for a 30 minute doc. I always wondered what ever happening to viewing it before capturing in tby kevin - Café LA Re: Capture HDV onto FCP 5 - 17 years agoIf you are seeing black in the capture window something is set wrong somewhere. Throw out preferences, set up your new show using the 1080 60 or 50 HDV settings, whichever you shot in and try to capture again. By the way, I hope you aren't trying to capture to a single internal drive on your powerbook. Also check to see that in your capture window both "audio" and "video" areby kevin - Café LA How many sequences have you used? - 17 years agoI have a project that I figure I'll end up with about 9 different sequences that I'll nest into the main timeline. Anyone done had any problems with that many? FCP 5, G5 dual 2.7, 2 gigs of ram, HDV project Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: Greenscreen shooting and FCP, quick and easy? - 17 years agodv matte garage. Or something like that. They have a plugin for greenscreen use and "Motion" that is unbelievably fast and better than native FCP. I have been playing in Motion using green screen shots and it is much faster, better than FCP even without the plug in from dv matte. kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: good FCP option - 17 years agoLooks like a good system that will take you a while to out grow. The only issue you might have is the optical mouse. A friend of mine used one on his system and some of the keyboard short cuts were strange. Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: Another HDV/DV Trailer for my video coming out.. - 17 years agolooks great! What shots were on HDV? It all looks good. Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: To all: a SHOUT-out of Thanks!!! - 18 years agoThats great Neil, wheres the web site so we can check it out? Good luck! kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: G5 single dual core/FCP 5 and HD - 18 years agoYes, you will be able to edit HDV on that machine. Be sure to get 2 internal drives, the second for your captured footage. To view the footage on an external monitor you wil need a video card from Aja or Blackmagic. good luck, kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: loading HD/HDV with firewire without Blackmagic decklink - 18 years ago"The card is already capable w/ FCP 4.5/5" 4.5 won't do HDV, 5 will. No problems getting the footage via firewire, just be carefull to pay attention to the wierd delay between your capture window and the deck or camera, whatever your capturing from. good luck! Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: My soon to be FCP Suite Good or not Good? - 18 years agoNo, keep the system drive as is. Your going to use that space for the system, the FCP suite applications, graphics programs, etc. OS X loves lots of breathing room, no drive over 80% full. I have a 250 gig system drive and my second drive is the same size and I'm so glad I went that route. It gets used up very fast! Good luck! kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: Streamclip Unavailable??? - 18 years agoDon't know if this will help, I just made an mpeg2 file out of Compressor 2. It had a .mts after the file name when completed. Lots of other options too, including mpeg 1. I'm trying to understand all the different mpeg2 ways there are available so please excuse my ignorance if that is of no use to you. Good luck, Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: Getting Sony HVR-Z1 to display video out - 18 years agoThen use the camera that works for viewing! If all you need is a way to see regular DV footage it doesn't matter what camera is hooked up. I'm sure that there is a way to use the Z1 to view, but I haven't explored that yet. It has to be in your settings on the camera somewhere. Good luck! Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: Getting Sony HVR-Z1 to display video out - 18 years agoIf you captured in HDV your project can't be viewed "video out" without a HD video capture card. That is one of the bigger expences that come with working in HDV. Black magic sells a good one. The cost for that is around $900 u.s. plus an additional $500 for a converter to go from the card to your HDV monitor. Good luck! Kevin P.S. It goes over this set up in your FCP manual.by kevin - Café LA Re: Canon XLH1 vs Sony Z1U; Promax - 18 years agoI have a z1 and love it! Heres a link to a fellow using one and an adapter to help with the "film" look. To my eye it is incredible. Good luck! Kevin P.S. One of the issues with the z1 is the wierd "strobbing" while panning. Some of that is because it has a very strange"feature". Even after setting the camera to manual mode unless you go in and set thby kevin - Café LA Re: out of memory!? - 18 years agoMake sure your still image is not cmyk or grayscale. It has to be rgb. Good luck! Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: OT; how to copy the FCP disks properly before sending them in - 18 years agoThanx Jude! That is exactly what I was looking for and why I love this forum. kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: FYI: (Warning - Essay): First impressions -- new Intel Mac Mini Dual Core w/FCP. - 18 years agoThanx for your sharing Travis. I'm working in HDV as well and have heard that the 5.1 version of FCP solves a "print to tape" bug. Is that true? Kevinby kevin - Café LA OT; how to copy the FCP disks properly before sending them in - 18 years agoOk, so I'm going to send in my disks for the FCP 5.1 version. How should I go about copying them to have a second set incase something goes wrong? I know it probably a silly question for you experts, I just want to make sure they work If I need them while my others are being sent to Apple. Thanx in advance, Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: HDV 2 SD 2 DVD workflow please. - 18 years agoI would capture the HDV footage as standard dv. The camera will output HDV on the fly as standard dv. That should save you a ton of time. You might be able to transfer directly into iDVD without setting it up in FCP. iDVD 5 will do that, probably iDVD 6 will do it even better. Don't know if it will give yo exact time code though. good luck! Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: Painfully Slow G5 with Final Cut Pro - 18 years agoYour main problem, I'm willing to bet, is working from your system drive. You need to have a second drive and set that as your scratch disk, either internal or firewire. All your media files need to be on that second drive. I work on a 800 dual and don't have the issues your writing about. good luck, kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: Sony DSR 40 deck error message: C:32 - 18 years agoSorry, it sent without me!!! Unplud the deck for 60 seconds, not turn off, but unplug. Plug back in and see what happens. Good luck, Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: Broadcast mpeg 2 to television? - 18 years agoDoes anyone know if "Compressor" can make those mpeg 2 files? I've been told that I can deliver that way as well. I'll be able to ftp the files to them. Technology is amazing. Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: FCP output problem - help! - 18 years agoTwo things come to mind, one is you may have a polluted timeline. Its happened to me, I copied and pasted into a new sequence and the problem went away. The second is a piece of music not at 48 kh but 44 kh. Bringing in music from a cd will do this or a special effect sound not set properly. My 2¢, Kevin P. S. Render audio as all have suggested. That solves many issues.by kevin - Café LA Re: best way to burn dvd's from timeline - 18 years ago"I wasn't aware you could tune iDVD. It uses fixed compression and you can't (last I checked) change it. Otherwise, yes, don't go over 7." On the latest version of iDVD you can adjust it, in the preferences it gives you 2 options, higher quality, more compatibility. Good luck! Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: sounds slightly out of sync sound on dvd's - 18 years agoSometimes that happens to me if I use analog material, capture through a dv converter, in my timeline. It could also be that your viewing the movie on a cheap DVD player, that affects the sync between video and audio as well. Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: Murch DVD audio - 18 years agoHaving been involved with a non-profit for years I wanted to give a "atta-boy" for all your efforts Mike. I understand completely the issues and unless you've done it its incredebly difficult to grasp how challenging it is to get help of any kind, let alone help that knows what they are doing to do a shoot for no or relatively no money. Keep up the good work! Kevinby kevin - Café LA Re: How do you resize 16:9 footage into 4:3? - 18 years agoIf you have access to the Z1 camera, it will allow you to take the HDV footage and output it 4:3 on the fly in regular DV and capture it in FCP. Check the output settings. Good luck! Kevinby kevin - Café LA |
