Re: Compressing/Exporting.... - 19 years agoWho are your targeted employers? If it's video facilities they should be able to play Quicktime mov (I would not use H.264 yet since it requires QT7 and is only a "preview" release on Windows). If you do corporate work you'd want WMV. Many business don't have Quicktime on their servers. For Quicktime you should use Sorenson Pro (NOT Sorenson) codec. You'll find 240x180 an actual standard frame size coming from 720x480. BTW you'd find the same preset for Quicktime frame sizes for standard video aspect. Don't forget Video pixels are not the same as Computer/Print pixels. While you have fewer frames you're giving the encoder more work in the "change per frame" area so it doesn't cut file size as much as one would think. Personally I wouldn't cut frame rate if you're showing off aesthetic work. WMV Studio Pro does bit rate (2 pass VBR) based encoding. Input should be Interlace Lower Field First (DV source). Frame size should likely be 240x180. Flip4Mac Studio Pro allows you to create WMV out of most any Quicktime based app as well as play with all the QuicktimePlayer interface features. In fact you can input WMV in FCP and jog, edit etc too. Many corporate clients REQUIRE WMV. My Dual 800 G4 purchased in 2001, rund FCP5 just fine 4 years after I bought it, with at least a year or longer, it'll be running what should remain the current version of FCP, through much 2006 (expecting FCP 6 anywhere from mind 2006 to early 2007). As a preface, I think Apple made the decision for the long term survival of the Mac when Jobs looked at PPC roadmap. Giving developers a 1-2 year timeline helps them through the programing transition and work out kinks. What Jobs hasn't done is show the developers/consumers how Apple will handleby craig seeman - Café LA Re: export to windows media audio/video - 19 years agoMike's hooked you up. Us small video businesses really need to think where things are headed as far as developer support. Now we may not be able to predict the future but it's the nature of business and purchasing decision to take that into account with a guess (educated or not) whether it's Apple's move to Intel (which I think is a good move) or my buying aby craig seeman - Café LA Re: It's Official - Intel Inside - 19 years agoYes, it's about LIFE-SPAN. Sure I can make money and then some on two years. I'd prefer to have the computer make money for five years though. The VideoVision examples doesn't cut it if your work requires latest feature set/plug ins, etc. (but not the fastest computer). I think any Mac I buy today would have a much shorter productive life span than past Macs. Only other time like this was dumping nubus for pci slots. I don't thinking moving to Intel is inherintly bad at all. I trust Jobs made this decision for long term speed improvements. A 60 minute miniDV tape recorded at LP speed will be 90 minutes long. Since the tape is running slower you may increase the likilihood of dropouts and/or make the "error correction" work "harder" (tape "problems" move passed the heads more slowly).
