Re: Offline workflow options with HD 720 24PN - 17 years agoThanks for the responses guys. Good to know about DVDs in PAL-land, Michael. That's one less step I'll have to deal with as I'm pretty sure they're buying all-new equipment. As for downconverting, I won't be color-correcting at DV resolution; I was just looking for a quick way to preview some effects and motion graphics I'll be adding. I know DV will be an issue there too but the render timby John K - Café LA Offline workflow options with HD 720 24PN - 17 years agoJust finished a shoot using the HVX200, shooting at 720 and 24P Native. The final product will be distributed on both NTSC and PAL DVDs played back on LCD TVs, so I figured it would make the PAL conversion easier and the NTSC discs could be progressive scanned. My shotgun mic wasn't working so all I have is the onboard audio from my DVX100B. I was in the back of the club so everything on stage sounds too distant but all the audience members back by me are super loud (laughter, talking, eating). I tried the compresser filter to bby John K - Soundtrack Pro Convert to Mono wipes out audio? - 17 years agoRushing to get through a final sound clean-up today... Went back into my multi-track project file, lots of clips from FCP came across as dual mono with all the audio to the right, so I've been selecting them, opening in Editor and then choosing convert to mono. I know this is destructive to the original QT files, but I was in a hurry and didnt want to open every clip as a project. Photoshop might work on a frame by frame basis, although that would be a nightmare and take along time. I think programs like Shake or Combustion would be better suited to removing dirt and scratches like that. They're expensive too (and complicated), so it might be cheaper all around to hire a freelancer who has the software to do it for you.by John K - Motion Re: MOTION 2 memory - 17 years agoBTW, you don't need to order memory only from Apple, their prices are way too high. Crucial.com sells good stuff, or check out www.dealram.com; as long as it's not marked "generic" then you should be okay. It's the no-name brand memory you have to watch out for. JKby John K - Motion Re: Cleaning up dirt, scratches from 35mm print, what's best way to do it? - 17 years agoSorry, I would say Motion is NOT the best program for what you want to do. It was built for motion graphics, not clean up duties. There are other methods out there that are used to remove dirt and scractches... But that's beside the point. Why do you have to duplicate that effect in Motion and not use an export from FCP?by John K - Motion Re: Creating schematic templates in MotioN? - 17 years agoHey Charles, I haven't looked, but I'm sure that buried somewhere on the ALIENS disk are the production credits for the DVD itself, and you may be able to contact the artist responsible directly. Otherwise, doing this kind of work is possible in Motion, provided you have the schematics already created. I would use Adobe Illustrator so that you have clean, scalable vector art to start with. But I can't understand why people insist on trying to run Pro apps on the slower machines (like the Mini). They're called "Pro" for a reason, and if you're going to invest in them you have to invest in the hardware too. I created a new track and put both clips on it, one after another. However I could never get it to preview properly; after the first clip I would get a black screen during the second clip. If I paused it and resumed it THEN the clip would show up. First off, the program itself is great. After taking a short class to familiarize myself with it I find it very intuitive and easy to use, at least the basic functions. Unless you want to dive in and encode the html by hand (not hard, but a lot to learn) you'll probably do well with a template-based web editor where you just drag and drop content into pre-formatted pages. iWeb is very good with Quicktime media, which is important for any trailers or EPK stuff for the film. It's when you enlarge past 100% that the image starts to fall apart. Screen resolution is set at 72dpi, so you wouldn't think you'd need to scan at a high dpi like you would for print (300dpi +). HOWEVER, the higher dpi you scan in, the more detail you'll have if you enlarge the documents on screen. Assume you're going to keep the scale at 10by John K - Café LA |
