No I didn't mean that as any sort of a long term solution, it's just I'm on a mad deadline and need to keep working for some days until I will have time to deal. And yes I have the Solid State - and yes, it does rock the casbah! But I will mourn my 30" monitor big-time if this is unresolvable. I usually work with two of them, and with 10+ cameras they get filled up fast... I just got out to LA where I will be working from home for a couple of months. I have a new 17" MBP, all tricked out, and an old 30" Apple Cinema Display which I love. It's not just the size, I adore the matte screen and can't abide the shiny screens on the new displays...by Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: quick Q re de-interlacing PAL and field dominance? - 14 years agoYou are A W E S O ME - that was the clear and detailed, thanks so much! But just to nit-pick, why wouldn't it "matter?" if you had say, a close-up of a hand-clap, wouldn't one field contain the point at which the hands meet and the other might not? M A R L Aby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: quick Q re de-interlacing PAL and field dominance? - 14 years agoThanks for the tip - I will try it - but can you please explain the field dominance issue anyway? Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: quick Q re de-interlacing PAL and field dominance? - 14 years agoHey Ben, Thanks for gettin' back - We experimented with various DV de-interlacing options and recently found, to our surprise, that the FCP de-interlace filter actually looks good on our recent DV-PAL material. We have a long pipeline at TED, ie one person digitizes a talk, then I edit it, and then I add titles in a nested sequence and export the talk with no compression, and then someoneby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA quick Q re de-interlacing PAL and field dominance? - 14 years agoHi there Pals- Just need to check in re de-interlacing PAL DV in terms of field dominance - -if DV PAL has a LOWER (even) Field Dominance, then does that mean I should select Lower in the de-flicker video filter effect as well (ie, does that filter SKIP the first field or REMOVE the first field)? -or is it better to select the OPPOSITE, ie UPPER (odd) in this case? Thanks! It is a Sony HDW M2000 (HDCam deck). I have no separate monitor sadly, just my computer screen. Using FCP 6.0.2, with a KONA card. I have tried various capture AV settings, from the AJA 3 ones to the DVCPro HD ones, to no avail. The taby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: how to open an omf? - 16 years agoMy clip is actually NDF, and is coming into SP2 as DF, even though I changed the prefs to be NDF... You mean create a TC burn-in first, in FCP? To use as a reference? Or did you mean to do some sort of burn in option INSIDE of SP2? I actually haven't been exporting any vid with the omf, so I'm not sure what you mean. The frame-rate is correct btw, Thanks! Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: how to open an omf?-drop vs non-drop - 16 years agoSo my original clip is NON DROP, as is my sequence in FCP. Is there some reason SP2 would mis-read this??? I just found and changed the pref to NDF for SP2, but it was not retroactive. So I closed the projects and re-imported, and it was STILL DF TC. Any thoughts? I'll try quitting and restarting the program... Thanks,by Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: how to open an omf? - yes - Soundtrack pro does it! - 16 years agoSo it worked - odd thing is my sequence is NDF TC, and the sequence in Soundtrack Pro is DF - Not sure if this is bc the original clip may have been DF, or because of SP2s preferences... Thanks, Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: how to open an omf? - 16 years agoThank you! But I wonder what I have to do to open it in Soundtrack 2 - you do mean the v of Soundtrack that comes with studio 2, do you not? Which I have. Guess I'll try opening Soundtrack and then try importing the omfs... I do not have a classic machine handy alas... Let you know how it goes, Thanks,by Marla Mitchnick - Café LA how to open an omf? - 16 years agoHi there gang, I haven't worked with omfs in FCP before. I just exported some omfs to give them to a sound person, and I wanted to check them. He is working with the files over the weekend and I'm not back 'til Tuesday so I won't be able to re-export. I can see that the HVR-V1U looks better, in that there's a 24p option (albeit with 2:3 pulldown), AND it has XLR audio inputs. Any other things to be aware of/pros and/or cons?
