Canvas screen going white whenever cursor is paused? - 15 years ago
Does anyone out there in the wide wide world of FCP have experience with this oddity? Capslock is off, can't seem to figure out the cause. OK when playing, but it's a little eerie. As usual, all anecdotes and wisdom welcome,by Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

we do dates here in a way that makes them sort well: May 7th, 2006 would be 060507 Maybe if we ALL made this creation date a features request, they'd finally pay attention! My other pet peeve, from AVID-land, is to be able to go to icon view in a bin, but have the icons sort vertically as a list, with the icon thumbnail still visible, instead of in some random messy pictorial view.by Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

So this is how my colleague, Michael glass, handled it, and it worked out great: We didn't use the P2 Store, but I think the smartest way is to make sure all the partitions are mounted (ie, use Disk Utility) and then import normally (like below). Hi there Gang- Is there any way at all that anyone has figured out to see Creation Dates of Sequences? Is there a way, for instance, outside of final cut, to get a sequence file inside a folder so that the info is visible? Modification date ain't doing me any good! Thanks,by Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

Hi Y'all, Just wondering what is the best way to set up the new 15" that isn't quite out yet, so as to be maximally compatible with my editing system at work, in case of needing to edit off-site... I know you can't put a Kona into a lap-top, but are there some software solutions to this that actually work? The main codec I use will work fine I believe, just the DVCPro HD codec, usinby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

Koz, the reason you: "...didn't get any response to the question of whether or not the OS install of the people who get this error included the OS9 extensions. That's an option while you're building your machine. I'm betting OSX by itself has no idea what 31 characters means, but OS9 sure knows..." Is because I still don't know - trying to find that out... Thanks Derek, Problem: that's exactly what I need to NOT do, unless the pitfalls are real. ie, I do need to rename the source-sequence that was used for the nested sequence, at which point it will no longer match the clipname in the nested sequence's timeline. I have tested, (making changes in the middle of the source sequence after re-naming it, and the changes come through in the nesteby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

Hi Y'all, We are, at last, doing a massive re-organizing, in preparation for moving all our duplicated media to our new raid, and just streamlining our process in general. We have a team of 3 and 2 of us do editing and 2 of us do compression... We pass files around like mad and have projects that overlap, etc... No periods, except before the extension, no double spaces, we are pretty god bout that stuff. We have since abbreviated our naming conventions further and designed them to be more sort-able, but even before we were pretty careful... Thanks for the lore, Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

Well, this machine wasn't even born pre-OSX, so how does one explain this? Perhaps it isn't the number of characters, some longer names export fine, and some simply do not. Naturally now I am renaming before passing them on but there are times when i am not around to do that... What the heck is Joliet? I thought that was a prison!by Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

Here is a sample of the actual file name: 30i 16x9 2004 James Howard Kunstler 070418 FC v09 And the corrupted one, after export from FCP: 30i 16x9 2004 James Howar#E9497 On second peruse, on another file, the # sign probs also occurs on the 26th space of the name - I had thought we had 32 characters, but perhaps it's a 26 character bug inby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

I've been really looking forward to it too - but for what I am doing, 5.1.2 is working just fine for now. Can't wait for the sound stuff and the color stuff though... Hi there Gang! All's been peachy here at TED, we are in the midst of our transition to Raid storage, and eventually to SAN... This is a small, but troublesome, little phenomenon. When I export an uncompressed QT movie from FCP, sometimes, and it seems utterly arbitrary WHEN, the end of my file name dissappears and then there is a # sign and some random seeming letters after it. Oh I am going to - I just have a big deadline to deal with this week, so I am hoping to be able to keep cutting and postpone the investigation 'til Friday or Monday. Could just be a file with a bad name - all the media I am currently cutting with was digitized by as many as 4 other people... Yikes! It is more than one project it's happening with! When you have a corrupt media file, if it's a .mov, do you just re-digitize? Though it could be a graphic. Maybe it's something that the various projects share, i have some files like that (both graphics and some "header" and "footer" .mov files. Hi there Y'all, I am getting a disturbing "media files offline" window, when I open up various projects, even when there ain't nothin' offline. It'll say "3 files, or 5 files, went offline" so I click to reconnect and when the grey window comes up there is no file name, it just says "___is missing." Well then, what does Jude mean by: "And Marla - when you paste attributes there is an option to 'scale attribute times' at the top of the dialogue box. If this is chaecked, it will remap the timel to suit the length of the new clip. If it's not checked, the motion will happen at exactly same rate as it does in your source clip." Jude! That is WAY COOL! Do you mean if you have a 15 frame fade out (keyframed opacity, NOT a crossfade icon one) at the end of a move, say, that the shot you paste to, though longer, will have the same 15 frame fade out at the tail? The subtleties do come out, don't they? Interesting about the keyfrraming motion tabs bugaroo Derek - I often keyframe my motion attributes too, of course, when doing moves it's essential... But wouldn't it only make sense to paste attributes from a key-framed move (a push in on a still image, say) if the shot you were pasting TO was of the same duration? ...A motion tab setting is not exactly a filter - so it doesn't have the little doohicky to drag. And when I went to "make favorite" from the pull down menu, it did not appear in the favorites folder so... I am still perplexed... but thanks for responding, Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

Hey there Y'all, Just have a simple resize but need to apply to many many clips - how do I make a favorite effect, like a filter, out of a basic motion tab setting so I can apply to a group of clips instead of individually? I guess I don't understand why you'd want to offline DV, as opposed to DVCProHD. Do you have gazillions of hours of footage or something? It's an excellent codec and would be so much closer to your original, just seems like a wiser option to me, if you have the space. And I am NO EXPERT, but I can't imagine that you'd want to upconvert from DV to HD: yuck! Whereas, if you were using the DVCProHDby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA
