What exact HD format have you been shooting with so far? We just shot some short docs at 720/24p on P2 cards and had a good experience, but we cut in DVCProHD... Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

Questions for my Lovely HD/FCP Pen-Pals: Does the DVCPro HD Codec automatically force footage back to 60i? We shot 1080 24psf on some high end Sony varicam style Studio cameras (connected to recorders via fiber cable). It was a 4 day conference (TED) that had all day speakers - 5 cameras... Using a Kona card they did some on-site editing, experimented with a few differenct codecs, and Iby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

Hi there Pals, I am on a TIGHT deadline and just exported an omf file from fcp for a sound-mix-fellow. He wrote the following: "It should be fine as long as you selected all the audio regions and you did not refer to them instead." But where are such choices? Hi there Pals, Certain clips in my timeline, and it appears to be the same ones over and over, have the media Offline appearance in the track itself. however the media is there, and relinking (unecessarily) does not make it go away. it'll go away sometimes if I refresh by, for instance, changing my size-of-track choice, but it goes back... Thanks Shane - What the heck does the "N" stand for, anyway? And, just to be sure I get it, in the case of using HVX200 footage, NOT Varicam, is the P2 compressor actually treating the 24p as straight 24p? And here's an afterthought: ""It seems to me the Import Panasonic P2 auto-detects the frame rate and the compressor. I guess "option" isn't the most articulate description. More specifically, FCP has two different logging/format fields for codec & frame rate. Like we can have DV PAL footage, DV NTSC footage, DV 23.98 footage, DV 23.98 advanced footage, but it's all uby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

Hi there Gang- Below is the situation as described by my colleague, Michael Glass, who is importing these P2 files for me to cut with: ""We're importing P2 footage using the IMPORT>Panasonic P2 tool in FCP 5.1.2. This footage was shot at 24P and it's importing as 24P, so all appears fine. Nonetheless, there is a discrepancy. FCP reports that the codec it's using is DVCPROby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

I always select too, so I had no idea! But the copy/paste to other tracks is great to know, I hate that and have invented workarounds that I now see are unecessary. Thanks so much, totally useful! That does seem rediculous, design wise! if they had just dealt with the hierarchy the opposite way, top most track taking precedence as in general viewing, it'd make more sense and cause less separate keystrokes... Who is messing with V1 when there is an active clip above it on V3?! Thanks Derek, for your fine level of detail. What other functions - besides mark clip - depend on it? Well, that sounded great, but when I autoselect the desired track it STILL does not mark clip! It makes marks that seem unrelated to my in and/or my out. When in the autoselected state does the little tv go clear? Or is the default (black-filled) in the selected position and you have to DE select the other tracks? To mark a clip, do you need to autoselect the track, select the particcular cliby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA

Hi Tom, Thanks for getting back so fast - but what do you mean, "autoselect buttons?" Do you mean Tools/Button List/Mark Menu? If that's what you mean, it says mark clip = x in the mark menu tab... Hi Y'all- Small matter but it's bugging me! When I park mid-clip and hit X, it is not selecting the appropriate clip. Wether selected or not... Even if I move the video track selector on the left there up to my chosen track. Do you have to be on V1 for this to work?? What's the secret? Hi Gang- Is there a recommended size for optimum functioning? I am running on an intel machine, and I think my idea about a 20MB project file is, at this point, obsolete... My colleague figured out a solution, involving "make multiclip," but then the video layers were all collapsed into one layer and you had to do all your thinking in the viewer monitor. Thanks so much, I am going to try that. You are right "If you are talking layers you're not doing multicam," at the moment it ain't true multicam, next month we go HD, with proper synching of TC between 8 cameras... For now though, I am dealing with 5 layers simultaneously recorded at a live event on DV, with close but not matching TC... Thanks, I am going to try your suggestion rby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA
