Re: to process large tiffs through photoshop first, or not to process? - 17 years agoSo Loren, are you implying that on small photos it's better to scan at a higher dpi? And what IS the Descreen funcction? What does it do? Thanks, Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: to process large tiffs through photoshop first, or not to process? - 17 years agoT'anks again! Their US contact is at grooveaddicts.com, and he was very nice. Worked out a blanket deal for my project, $285 for as many tracks and needle drops as I want, and the selection is quite decent. They do blanket deals (non brodcast) based onprogram length. If you have trouble emailing it to my yahoo, try my gmail (mitchnickpictures@gmail.com), Thanks! Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: to process large tiffs through photoshop first, or not to process? - 17 years agoInteresting! Will do. been using gaussian blurs for that, but there's a fine line between not flickering and too blurry! So the Deflickerator is a separate plug in that goes with PS? Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: good cheap downloadable music? - 17 years agoThank You ALL, SO much! I definitely don't have time on this job to buy CD's, just going to go with the downloadable options, but I'll check out those libraries in the future, sounds good to have, Cheerio, Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: to process large tiffs through photoshop first, or not to process? - 17 years agoYeah, thanks. I did bring them in large and this fast machine is handling them OK, but I haven't put my effects on them yet... They are going to get pretty effectsy... Plus which the text heavy ones could use a little gaussian blurring, but maybe the blur in FCP will have the same effect (taking the vibration off the text) as the one in Photo Shop... I'll do a couple more tests. Thanks forby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA good cheap downloadable music? - 17 years agoHi Y'all, Any recommendations for good rights-free, or rights-cheap, music? I just need a few pieces for corporate use, but not much time or moolah... Thanks, Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA to process large tiffs through photoshop first, or not to process? - 17 years agoHi there Compadres- About to start a stills-heavy job today. I had them scan their images at 300dpi, and save as tiffs. The images are color photographs, and also articles from magazines and newspapers. The articles almost all include text and images, but a few are text-heavy. I will be on FCP Universal (not there yet so not certain the version number - poss 5.1.2?) on a zippy intel mac.by Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: Clint Eastwood uses Sony HVR-Z1U Cameras in new flick... - 17 years agoVery interesting!!! If Liz Radley comments here, apart from workflow details, I am curious about how they closed/sealed off the box, while leaving the lens able to "see." Was there just a little glass window? And one case for making a film alone is if you happen to be doing experimental animation. I used to do stop motion films, and it was a blast "doing it all," but on a very small scale... OK: define the bloody BEAT! I have cut loads of music videos and dance pieces, and I am a musician. The most creative I ever got with editing to music was a favor-job for a video-stylist friend. Help fight those nasty digital demons! - 17 years agoDear Pals, After much preparation, I can't even get Compressor to talk to FCP. I get to the point of setting up the settings and destination and all, and hit submit, and then an error window pops up saying "Error:...failed...can't detect the background data..." Then it quickly becomes apparent that FCP has a spinny pinwheel going round and round... Best, Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: web compression - specific question: what's "Encoded H2640" - 17 years agoI'll run some tests today once my client takes a break-sounds like Compressor gives more options/control, and QT is the simplest... Hope to be compressing the final late tonight. Still in the dark about where to choose the pixel size in Compressor, but I suppose it'll be findable once I'm mucking around in there, Thanks, Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: web compression - specific question: what's "Encoded H2640" - 17 years agoHi! Wow, thanks, I thought this was going to be way more complex. So which is better, QT-export or compressor? I don't care about the convenience (batching) so much as the quality: would there be any quality difference? And, sorry for the ignorance, I have only used QT for self-contained movies, and only used compressor for basic high-quality encoding, so the next question is: would I be aby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA web compression - specific question: what's "Encoded H2640" - 17 years agoHi there compadres, I just got a nice little gig, but am inexperienced with compression for web purposes. I am comfortable using Compressor for making DVD's but this is a different ball o' wax... I need to determine 1) what software to use (Cleaner? AE? Is the media there, or is it gone? Just drag a clip icon to your quicktime app icon and if it plays then it's there. If your media IS there, then there's absolutely no need to redigitize. More concerned w mixing 4 and 8 than with basic daisychaining. Just ignorant about the speed thing, but it makes sense now that you say they slow to the slower of the 2. My system has worked OK with up to 3 FW drives at a time, and a DV deck.
