Re: After Effects tutorials/Classes? Ken Stone? - 17 years agoHi Derekmok, I - like you - am more editor-minded than graphic minded, though I have a background inanimation and so am conceptually very graphic sensitized... Motion makes innate sense to me too, and basic photoshop. But ooph: no real time playback? Sounds frustrating! Have you taken a class yourself??? Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: After Effects tutorials/Classes? Ken Stone? - 17 years agoThanks for all the ideas. I am serious about learaning AE, though not sure yet if I should take a class first (and then go the tutorial/book route for deepening the knowledge). I tend to learn really quickly from people and more slowly on my own, so I think a class might be a good thing as an intro. But the total training sounds great. I am aware that it's not a quick study, and that depresses mby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: After Effects tutorials/Classes? I saw an amazing film by an Argentinian fimmaker and teacher once at a festival, called "Mobius." Have you seen it? I'd love to see your city. Ken Stone? - 17 years agoHiya mates, Any particular recommendations for a novice to get acquainted with after effects? Is there some good adobe-bundle or AE tutorial? Ken Stone, if you're out there: do you have a suggestion? All of your software related suggestions in the past have been phenomenal! Thanks, Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: Good job search site? - 17 years agoThanks for the feedback, Y'all. I was just registering on realitystaff.com, funny you should mention that one. It has a very annoying format for your resume but oh well. Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Good job search site? - 17 years agoHi there pals- Looking for work again! Woo-hoo. I recall a while back, though I couldn't find the thread just now, that one of you kind folk recommended a non-mandy film related job site. Can't remember what it was called: anybody have one to recommend??? Thanks, Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: Help! DVD emergency - poss compression? - 17 years agoThanks-Drats! wish I had thought to ask about those last night, I had never compressed that way before, always used compressor first in the past... I have no access to DVD SP4 this weekend, only v3 on an older mac, so if it turns out I need another redo (god forbid!) the only files I have are the fast encode one, and the self contained QT one... Hopefully I'll screen it and all will be well, saby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: Help! DVD emergency - poss compression? - 17 years agoLove the digression - >What are your settings? Bit Rate and Max Bit Rate? For 40 minutes a 6.8 bit >rate with a 7.5 max bit rate should produce fine results. Usually does for me. Are you talking about Compressor settings? It's too late for me to check, but those sound about right, I did look but don't know much about it. >2 pass VBR of course When you say 2 pass VBR are you talby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: Help! DVD emergency - poss compression? - 17 years agoHi Michael- Thanks for your concern, but I am in New York at the moment, and Staples is right in Union Square, not quite so bad as LA. Still glad I didn't have to go! It's odd, I went back accross the street (post facility), and when I checked the "problem" DVD's, they played fine! So it may have been my old version of DVD player (3.2 I think). But it's never even hiccoughed before...by Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Help! DVD emergency - poss compression? - 17 years agoWell hello there pals - any of you Aussie's or Kiwis or West Coasters awake? I was SO ready to go to bed, but I knew I needed to screen eaach of my 10 chapters in this 40 minute corporate video for quality control and, lo and behold, on chapter 7 the video intermittently freezes up. Then I got a "disk error, may be scratched or dirty" window! I had made 3 copies and this is happening oby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: Synch problems - 17 years agoHave you run a test to your deck? Maybe try a different timeline from a different project just to make sure it isn;t the deck? Is it playing tapes OK, otherwise? Did you digitize at 48kHZ? And sample rate is in fact consistent throughout? Wish I had an answer for you, sounds maddening. Marla PS-Just a thought: I'd re-check all your user preferences, audio visual settings, and system settingsby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: batch redig emergency - need neatest solution ASAP! - 17 years agoI aleays log every frame of my material - don't always digitize it all but I basically reconstruct the tapes in my log so I know every bit that's there, good and bad. Late in an edit, after you've tried "everything," those value judgements can do big switcheroos! But in this case I just needed to re-dig the audio in 5 minutes of a finished timeline, so I was looking for a simple, quickby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: Compressor Fast Encode or QTself-contained??? - 17 years agoAre you on a Dual G5? The version 3 we have at work is a pretty old G4... But that really does sound fast to me, I may try it out, just as an experiment, see if it looks better than the fast encode compressor version. But are you talking about burn time, or encoding time? Does DVD SP do them simultaneously, if you import a QT self contained movie? Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: batch redig emergency - need neatest solution ASAP! - 17 years agoAnd if you wanted to batch dig directly from a timeline is there any way to get handles?? The remaining time indicator was WAY off. So I was very bleary, but I managed to author a aDVD in DVD SP 4, though 2 odd things happened. 1 of my chapters was missing, no biggie, it was in some black so I was able to make a sufficiently exact chapter marker inside of DVby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: Compressor Fast Encode or QTself-contained??? - 17 years agoThanks steven, I do have DVDSP4 on this machine, but as I have to be out of here by noon, at this point I'd rather have a file that I can take elsewhere (good to know about the reference movie tho, I have never tried that, do you bring that right into DVD Studio Pro and then DVDSP does the compression? Doesn't that part take a long time?)... ALSO-DOES ANYONE any info on the chapter markers thinby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: what do I need for uncompressed edit - 17 years agoAt one of my jobs I have an AJA IO, the less expensive one (still around $1100 tho), and something called a rosetta stone RS422/RS232 adaptor, for deck control between the AjA and the deck. I think my Sony Beta SP deck is only a 1700. Firewire between the G5 and the AJA, and Component RGB/BNC cables between the deck and the AJA for signal. I have a small mackie mixer, and the AJA breaks out allby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: Compressor Fast Encode from FCP or from QT??? - 17 years agoHi there- I just read on the DVD SP forum that it's faster to compress from a QT into compressor than from a FCP sequence... I started an FCP export to compressor about 20 minutes ago. It says it has 3 hours and 43 mins remaining. It's a 40 minute video and I am in a bit of a rush, though I want a solid comressed file, naturally. I had already exported a self-contained QT movie, with DVDby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Compressor Fast Encode or QTself-contained??? - 17 years agoHi there all- I am going to try to post this on the DVD Studio Pro forum too: My timeling is 40 mins, and would take 10-12 hours to compress in best quality mode. Sadly, I do not have the time. I output a QT self-contained, with DVD Studio Pro Chapter Markers, and that file looks good. I just started a Compressor export using the fast encode, and if I let it go it'll take about 3 hours. It went fine, though I did dig the whole source media... Marlaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: batch redig emergency - need neatest solution ASAP! - 17 years agoI had to get moving so I made a new project, moved the old media file so I wouldn't lose it, just in case, and then selected the source clip (now offline) and the various sequences I wanted it to link to (don't know if that part is necessary in FCP?). Now it's digitizing, so in 27 minutes Ill see if everything linked and then cut the bloody ch2 audio in by hand...drats, wish I had left that chaby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA batch redig emergency - need neatest solution ASAP! - 17 years agoHi there! I have a 4.5 minute timeline (a section of a 40 minute piece) that had bad audio on CH1/L. I got rid of the ch1 audio, doubled ch2/r, and stuck it up there as a temporary solution. It turns out the bad audio was due to a deck problem, so now at the last minute, I have to get mixed and DVD's authored tonight - unfortunately, and I RARELY do this, I digitized a big 26 minute chunk, theby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA Re: Crop/Distort - 17 years agoCan you get me one too while you're at it Jude? But ask a bunch of editors and post production visionaries a blurry question and ya gotta expect to hear rallying cries for precision! Editors/PPV's tend to have detail oriented, precision-demanding minds, and are among the most meticulous, anal-retentive, picky perfectionists you'll ever come accross... otherwise they could not or would not do thisby Marla Mitchnick - Café LA |
