Re: American Hard Drive Instability in China - 15 years agoCause I brought over 8 hard drives, have a project that's 2TB in size, and dread buying yet another hard drive, but perhaps I'll make the plunge if given no other choice.by hanguolaohu - Café LA American Hard Drive Instability in China - 15 years agoFrom the USA, I have brought several external firewire hard drives that I connect to my Macbook Pro to edit in Final Cut Pro in China. On all the hard drives power bricks the input is rated 100-240V, yet whenever I turn on Final Cut Pro the program constantly crashes. I noticed that my hard drives vibrate because of the 110/220 voltage difference, so my theory is that the drives don't work wellby hanguolaohu - Café LA Re: Convert 24p NTSC Sequence to PAL - 15 years agoOne step forward, one step... I've noticed that when I do the rescaling within FCP images look somewhat blurry and text has ghosting (aliasing, stepping?) around the edges. At the top and bottom of the screen there's a line that resembles a prism effect. Perhaps I'm not doing something right. My steps were: 1. I couldn't find a tutorial through Google or the Audacity website taking me through the steps. So I went to a sound editor today who uses Protools. He recommended going back to the original 23.976fps Quicktime file, and tried to use Pitch Shift>Tiby hanguolaohu - Café LA Re: Convert 24p NTSC Sequence to PAL - 15 years agoA good straightforward tutorial I found by Tim McLaughlin on Creative Cow: Step 1: Dupe the file in question and label as "25fps". Otherwise, Cinema Tools will "conform" over your existing 23.98 file. Step 2: Use Cinema Tools to conform the file to 25fps. This will translate the file to 25fps, slightly speeding up the file (roughly 4 %). Because the RGB 0 value seems to match. So would you suggest changing the RGB of the filler to 15 so it's all legal?by hanguolaohu - Café LA Re: 601 vs. RGB Titles for 10 bit - 15 years agoOK so I got the full scoop from my graphics guy today. The 601 file was purposely set at an RGB value of 15 because an RGB value of 0 would be an illegal black. So even though it showed as grey on my LCD, for broadcast purposes it would show as the same black once it's passed through a limiter. I've left the RGB file in my sequence because the grey still bugs me, and I figure any Digibeta outpby hanguolaohu - Café LA Pitch Change fix for 24p NTSC to PAL - 15 years agoAnyone here have a decent tutorial for Audacity or Soundtrack Pro to fix 4% pitch change caused from 24p NTSC to PAL conversion? Funny to hear Brad Pitt sounding like Angelina Jolie. Would love to go Alchemist route, but it'll be too expensive. I'm gonna do this via Compressor for now. If that doesn't work, then I'll try Nattress Standards Converter. I've recorded 24p DVD's, you sure they don't have 25p DVD's in PAL world? Where does the conversion to 50by hanguolaohu - Café LA Re: Convert 24p NTSC Sequence to PAL - 15 years agoIf I go the Cinema Tools route, doesn't it speed up audio by 4% so there's pitch difference? That scares me. Also why should I convert to 50i, couldn't I just keep it as 25p?by hanguolaohu - Café LA Re: 601 vs. RGB Titles for 10 bit - 15 years agoI'll relate this info to the graphics guy. I'm gonna go in with the RGB file, and double check with the graphics guy when I go in Monday. I'm doing a 10 bit output overnight so I hope that works. Thanks grafixjoe!by hanguolaohu - Café LA Re: 601 vs. RGB Titles for 10 bit - 15 years agoJust found out on another forum that: The 601 file has an RGB value of 15/15/15. It is not truly black. The RGB file has an RGB value of 0/0/0. This is pure black. So I'm going to go with the "RGB" file. Thank you guys! One more thing, how do you guys reply so quickly? Perhaps I'll just use the RGB labeled TIFF as the black backgrounds match in FCP within my default color settings, and for me seeing is believing. The background should be black, not sure if that is considered transparent or not. Unfortunately, I don't have an NTSC reference monitor or HDCAM SR deck in my home to do this "by hanguolaohu - Café LA 601 vs. RGB Titles for 10 bit - 15 years agoI've received title cards from a graphics house that are either 601 or RGB in TIFF or PSD format. I tried placing the PSD file into FCP, but it wouldn't accept it. My sequence is 10 bit NTSC, so I then placed the 601 TIFF file into my sequence. The titles are yellow text on black background. While listening to various classical CD's, I can tell some difference in "fullness" between 192 and 256. 256 and 320 sounds practically the same to my ears. I'm currently using 192kbps VBR MP3 encoded by iTunes, and am considering going higher but am not sure if there's any audible difference. I've tried LAME before but like the convenience of iTune's interface, and I believe iTunes 8 has more MP3 encoding options than before.
