Re: Hard drive crash - anyone have luck with Disk Warrior or other program?? - 11 years agoThanks- I'll try itby TroyChristian - Café LA Re: Hard drive crash - anyone have luck with Disk Warrior or other program?? - 11 years agoStrype's - when I shoot I put them in folders ACam Card1 and so on in leu of reels. They all remain in folders and are brought into project that way - so there is a madness to my method - it came from having to be quick on the set so I am able to it well organized (for me anyway). Also not saying that the HPX file naming is good as dupes do pop up - but it is far better than the DSLR naming wheby TroyChristian - Café LA Re: Hard drive crash - anyone have luck with Disk Warrior or other program?? - 11 years agoShort lived success ... for a fleeting moment there they were- all purty like new ... then suddenly - SPLAT... the drive totally ate S**T. Hardware failure ... Thanks for the help anyway fellas ...by TroyChristian - Café LA Re: Hard drive crash - anyone have luck with Disk Warrior or other program?? - 11 years agoFYI - Bought Disk Warrior and it successfully rebuilt the drive. Whew!! Goodbye Lacie - been fun ...by TroyChristian - Café LA Re: Hard drive crash - anyone have luck with Disk Warrior or other program?? - 11 years agoWhat a cog that is ... ...can't even blame smart text for that one!by TroyChristian - Café LA Re: Hard drive crash - anyone have luck with Disk Warrior or other program?? - 11 years agoThanks Guys, Missing my latest Motion Project files, one set of dialogue for a pick up shoot that I can't seem to find in my back up and also, here's a lesson for me; I usually ingest and work with that footage and then keep the raw as my back up. Shooting with my HPX all of the files have their unique name. I "name" them in FVP using log notes keeping the original name on the drive.by TroyChristian - Café LA Hard drive crash - anyone have luck with Disk Warrior or other program?? - 11 years agoWeirdest crash ever. Lacie 1TB. OS 10.6.8 Quad Intel FCP 7.0.3 Working on a project in a folder titled "Kids". FCP starts acting up. Ultimately all files and Hard Drive go offline. When I reboot I get Error message: "MAC OS X can't repair the disk. You can still open or copy files, but you can't save changes on the disk. Save as many as possible and reformat."by TroyChristian - Café LA Re: Speed changes and motion blur - 11 years agoI am finding the "optical flow" option to add warping and "none" to be cleaner ...by TroyChristian - Café LA Re: Speed changes and motion blur - 11 years agoI have seen them Joe - they look great. Certainly any of these options is better than the speed control in FCP. My problem with Twixtor at $595 is that I just bough two AVID MC dongle/licenses and am in between where I am going to land toolkit wise. So the purchase might not be the best investment at this point. I however, look forward to experiencing the good results first hand. The Motion oby TroyChristian - Café LA Re: Speed changes and motion blur - 11 years agohaha Russ ... The Set Speed behavior looks markedly better than the old Command J in FCP. I'll try that work flow Jude - and thanks!by TroyChristian - Café LA Re: Speed changes and motion blur - 11 years agoThanks Jude! What is the filter in Motion? My BG is stationary. It is the performers who are in motion. Got things here- dancers in super slow mo on one project and circus performers in fast mo on another. I think I have my head wrapped around the slow mo. I am guessing that the Motion filter could handle the fast too?by TroyChristian - Café LA Speed changes and motion blur - 11 years agoI have been doing a lot of research on super slow mo (overcranking) using my 7D. Seems like Twixtor is a viable (although expensive) option. Anybody want to chime in on successes and/or failures with it? Or other ways to acheive the same effect (1000fps ish)? Also- is there a way to avoid motion blur when speeding footage up to say 400%?? Thanks!by TroyChristian - Café LA Re: EOS Log and Transfer Plugin - 11 years agoAnd thanks for the heads up on Lion ... man my editing landscape is gonna change over the coming months... but I s'pose I am not alone on that ...by TroyChristian - Café LA Re: EOS Log and Transfer Plugin - 11 years agofound it - had to enter OSX not OSX 10.6by TroyChristian - Café LA Re: EOS Log and Transfer Plugin - 11 years agoThanks Jon- But somehow I still don't see it there. That is where I was looking before. After entering the OS it isn't listed. Am I missing something? (other than the file for download)by TroyChristian - Café LA EOS Log and Transfer Plugin - 11 years agoHi all- I had to reinstall the OSX on my laptop. I chose Snow Leopard (as I'll be adding AVID to my tool kit). I tried to locate the EOS Log and Transfer Plugin from Canon and can't seem to find it online. Anyone know where I can download it from? Is the absence of it on the Canon site spell an abandonment of FCP 7? Thanks! Troyby TroyChristian - Café LA Re: A Word of Advice - 11 years agoJust bought 2 AVID licenses ... gonna move in that direction here ... Saddens me ...by TroyChristian - Café LA - X Re: 7D Transcoding question - 11 years agoIn Compressor I used the Apple Pro Res 422 HQ pre set which states that it bases the compression on the original file settings and resolution. I didn't touch the frame controls. For the conversion from PAL to 23.98 I DID use frame controls - best, better, etc. and that was the scenario where the task bar in Compressor didn't even budge for 2 days. I'll have to check on the Magic Bullet. Butby TroyChristian - Café LA Re: Best Converter for Canon Rebel T3i and FCP 6? - 11 years agoI suggest you do tests before deciding. Try FCP Log and Transfer against the other 2. In my Compressor tests on DSLR it seemed to add a lot of red to the footage ...by TroyChristian - Café LA Re: FONT not working in FCP - 11 years agoFYI - Added another version of Bank Gothic and it seems to be working so far - need to re size and re track tho ... Not sure why the other Bank Gothic exists in Motion and not in my computer fonts tho ...by TroyChristian - Café LA FONT not working in FCP - 11 years agohi all - I have been using a font called Bank Gothic in Motion and have brought the Motion project file (which are text only) into FCP 7.0.3 For the whole day FCP was recognizing and reading the font properly. At one point I changed media under the Motion projects and the fonts in all of them changed to another font. When I rendered it shifted back AT FIRST. That no longer works and now evenby TroyChristian - Café LA Re: 7D Transcoding question - 11 years agoI believe that MPEG Streamclip is MUCH faster than Compressor- at least when I have personally compared it with Compressor. Harry323 - I believe your are talking about when I converted from PAL to 23.98 on a job recently. Compressor wouldn't even budge on it and MPEG Streamclip busted it out relatively quickly and with better image results in a side by side one clip test. The footage was PAL XDCaby TroyChristian - Café LA Re: 7D Transcoding question - 11 years agoHey Derek, I checked the Compressor settings. It is the stock ProRes 422 HQ settings. They only thing that I see that is not checked that could make it better image-wise is the frame controls. The title on the setting reads "settings based off the source media and frame rate". I assumed it would be an obvious preset - HQ, based off etc. A little misleading I'd say.by TroyChristian - Café LA Re: 7D Transcoding question - 11 years agoThanks Derek! Great info! I'll choose L&T!!by TroyChristian - Café LA 7D Transcoding question - 11 years agoHey all- So, in prepping to edit I have taken my 7D footage and used Compressor to transcode to ProRes 422 HQ (as I am aiming for the highest quality and can afford the space). I did a test though, out of curiosity. I brought a file into FCP Log and Transfer and added to cue. The result from an image standpoint was MUCH better. The Compressor version and a lot of red to the image and was a litby TroyChristian - Café LA Re: 7D or 5D - 11 years agoThx Strypes! - Aeroquartet seems like it will save me from a re shootby TroyChristian - Café LA Re: 7D or 5D - 11 years agoSo - I shot on the 7D as the piece I am filming has dance in it and i wanted the option of higher frame rate. Moire on certain pieces of clothing is a big issue. Had no issues with overheating. The issues were with the connector for the external monitor not being design for running and gunning. When the connection was lost the camera would shut down and the shot lost. The other HUGE issue is tby TroyChristian - Café LA Re: 7D or 5D - 11 years agoThanks Gents! See? Those of us in post know the deal as we are the ones trying to fix the shortcomings of the shoot ... I just hate it when I am fixing the shortcomings of my own shoot! I have heard great things (as mentioned) about the Sony F3 - thinking about that moving forward for sure. Bums me out to not hear one good review here for either the 7D or 5D as I sit here staring at both. Iby TroyChristian - Café LA Re: 7D or 5D - 11 years agoI have heard great things about the F3 - researching that for an upcoming project. Clearly DSLR cameras aren't great for running and gunning. I did a shoot last week and we used a RED, a 5D and a 7D. And although the 7D did so well in tests it didn't quite hold up. Might have been the glass though- which is why I am so curious as to others experiences in the trenches ...by TroyChristian - Café LA 7D or 5D - 11 years agoIf you had to shoot tomorrow and had both available, which would you choose? It's a short film for festivals, 24fps but there will be dancing and movement so the option of a higher frame rate is advantageous. I have read so many reports "5D - size matters" (sensor) "7D is better for video". No one know better than the editors who view the footage in all types of scenarios.by TroyChristian - Café LA |
