relinking files to largeer media files in Premier -" Proxy Media and Full Resolution Media mush have matching audio channels." - 7 years agoHI, I cut several rough cuts of a feature in the most recent version of Premier using 1080 ProRes Proxy media. the DIT also make a set of DNx 2K files that matched the ProRes Files for the online. After I turned over the project, the director recut the film with an intern using FCP X. After that they ported it back to Premier in a new project (yeah, I know). Now they would like to use my oby rpearlster - Adobe Premiere Pro CC workflow for Super16mm film and Premier Pro? - 8 years agoHI, We are currently shooting a feature on Super16 mm film. The plan is to 1. scan to 2K 2 create an MOS proxy file 3. sync the proxy files to the external sound files 4. Edit with Adobe Premier Pro 4. match back to 2K. Has anyone done this? If we sync and create Merged Clips in Premier, will we be able to matchback the footage with the 2K material? If so, how would be do this?by rpearlster - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Shooting with Super16 and cutting with Premier Pro - workflow? - 8 years agoHI, We are currently shooting a feature on Super16 mm film. I'm cutting an indie feature (straight narrative, dialogue tracks) and it seems that the sound recordist on set was playing with his settings throughout the shoot. Some of the dialogue tracks are 4 channel mono (with some blank) and some are just stereo. Some are 2 mono and 1 stereo track together. There doesn'tby rpearlster - Café LA Cutting a narrative scene that is multicamed - 11 years agoHI, I'm cutting a feature and we are using from 2 to 7 cameras on some scenes. My assistant editor is syncing and multiclipping all the scenes with more than one camera, including dramatic dialogue scenes. In most of the A and B angles, the shot does not stay the same for the entire take but roves around from FS to CU and from Character to Character. In addition, on some shots they change theby rpearlster - Café LA Re: workflow for feature using multiple cameras (C300 and DSLR) and sync sound - 11 years agoThanks everyone, as always! I am putting together instructions for the camera and sound department and my assistant editor on the project as we speak ( rarely get the luxury of doing this). Let's see if they listen to me. Hey, I'm just the editor... Rachelby rpearlster - Café LA Re: workflow for feature using multiple cameras (C300 and DSLR) and sync sound - 11 years agothanks everyone, this is really helpful. One more question still to answer: After syncing with Plural Eyes, then what? What do you edit/multiclip? Plural Eyes as I've used it creates a sequence with the sunk (?) clips on it (either one per clip or all the clips together on one sequence). Before you multiclip (or edit at all, not all the scenes use multiple cameras) how do you manage andby rpearlster - Café LA Re: workflow for feature using multiple cameras (C300 and DSLR) and sync sound - 11 years agoHI Thanks! That's a great point about the audio files needing to be renamed. I ran into that on some shorter pieces and it's a pain in the neck. Actually we will have up to 7 cameras for some of the performance scenes. Specifically I wanted to know when one sync's the files to the external audio and transcodes. Back in the day, when I used film, you would use the work print audio and tby rpearlster - Café LA workflow for feature using multiple cameras (C300 and DSLR) and sync sound - 11 years agoI just got a gig cutting a low budget feature to be shot on the C300 and some 7D's with external sound on FCP. Would anyone mind sharing their thoughts on workflow. I've used both cameras for shorter pieces but never a feature. I assume that we will transcode both camera's footage to ProRes before we cut but how did you deal with the external sound and syncing? I will have an assistant editorby rpearlster - Café LA Blowing up ProRes 422 to create a CU - any way to do this without loosing resolution? - 12 years agoHi, Cutting a webisode that's in dire need of CU's, so we blew up the frame in FCP 7 and the result looses resolution. The Director insists that she did this before without any loss in quality. Is there something i'm missing here? Is there a way to create CU's that don't loose quality? It's ProRes 422 1920 x 1080 23.98 fps I'm using FCP on a 4 year old MacBook Pro. Workds fine now.by rpearlster - Café LA Problems with file size when media managing a file in FCP for color correction - 12 years agoHI, I'm trying to media manage a 2.5 minute project shot on the 5D (ProRes 422 HQ files 1920x1080) to send for color correction. The original media used is about 300 GB but the exported sequence yields a Quicktime of about 2 GB full resolution. When I use the media manager to copy and create a new project and media with all unused media deleted, it says it will give me a file of media of abby rpearlster - Café LA Delivering Red footage shot as 16:9 as 4:3 with letterbox - 15 years agoHI, This is more of a "what would you do?" question. I'm working on a spot this weekend shot in 16:9 on the RED. The client wants the final output to be on BetaSP 29.97 4:3 with a letter box. The sound will be mixed from 2 tracks to mono and added to both tracks on the Beta tape. I will most likely be keeping the project in the ProRes (HQ) format throughout. Will do it now, thanks for your patience.by rpearlster - Café LA Looking for RED RAW footage for workflow test - 15 years agoHI, I picked up a job with the Red Camera. Does anyone have any spare RAW files (with proxies and metadata) that I can borrow to do a test run? I'm gonna run them through a few different workflows so I'd be happy to share my mistakes when I'm done . Even just a few files would be enough. I'm in LA on the West Side. Thanks!by rpearlster - Café LA Re: 5D/7D workflow - 15 years agoThat's really interesting. the last time I used HDV for an editing job it was a render nightmare.by rpearlster - Café LA Re: Red One workshops for DIT and Editors - 15 years agothanks! I also have a feeling Noah's book is in my future. Any thoughts on where to get some Red Raw footage? Just starting my internet hunt here . Rachelby rpearlster - Café LA Red One workshops for DIT and Editors - 15 years agoHi, I just got hired on as DIT/Editor for a feature in March using the Red camera. Does anyone have any good resources on line or personal experience with the on-set and post shoot workflow with this camera? Any good workshops in LA? Red has one that is 4 times a year and very expensive for me. Thanks! Rachelby rpearlster - Café LA 5D/7D workflow - 15 years agoHI, I'm assisting on set with my computer and Final Cut Pro for a shoot tomorrow that is shooting an interview with the Canon 5D. I believe they are recording separate sound. Can anyone list the workflow with the camera? I've been reading mixed reviewed about shooting this way, but tomorrow's shoot is not negotiable so any advice is most appreciated. I asked about OMF to begin with and he said no but I think that once he started working with the files we gave him he realize he needed handles....oops. thanks for confirming what I suspected. Rachelby rpearlster - Café LA exporting Audio AIFF's in FCP with handles? - 15 years agoHi, My audio editor would like us to export AIFF files with handles of all our FCP tracks for a sequence as AIFF files. He would also like these to include handles for dialogue clips. Is there a way to do this? I was under the impression that FCP exports the entire track and not the indivudual clips and with no handles. 2 questions: Is there a way to export multiple AIFF tracks at one tby rpearlster - Café LA Re: using a white background for compositing - 15 years agoin the end she decided NOT to use the white cyc. Oy. rachelby rpearlster - Café LA Re: using a white background for compositing - 15 years agoThanks. The director insisted on a white cyc, so that's what we're dealing with. I'll just have to do the best I can. Any other advice on how to mitigate the damage would be really welcome. Rachelby rpearlster - Café LA using a white background for compositing - 15 years agoHI, We're shooting a commercial video for the internet and the director wants to use a white background (cyc) with an interview subject. She would like me to pull a matte from this and composite some images behind the subject during the interview. I'm familiar with a green screen in this instance but not a white one. How does one pull a white matte, especially if the subject may also have sby rpearlster - Café LA WD Firewire Drive won't mount - 15 years agoHi, My 500 GB WD Mybook suddenly decided not to mount for an unknown reason. The drive appears in the system profiler and in Disk Utility. I did a repair on the disk and Disk Utility says it appears to be OK. When I mount it through DU it says "will not mount, try to repair". Which I do to no avail. Any way I can fix this? There's a lot on this drive unfortunately (I now have to bby rpearlster - Café LA Re: setting up a small server for file sharing - 15 years agocool. Let me ask you this. If I didn't have a Dobo, could I use my computer as a server with a regular firewire drive to connect via Ethernet Switch with file sharing? Rachelby rpearlster - Café LA Re: setting up a small server for file sharing - 15 years agothanks! Dobro seems to be the way to go if we can get together the $. Kinda tight now. can you use Airport Extreme to read the data from a drive attached to another computer? (I know, it's a basic question). If so, can both computers use the same data or do you run into the same issues as connecting both computers to the same hard drive. rapby rpearlster - Café LA setting up a small server for file sharing - 15 years agoWe're getting to the point in the film I'm cutting where I would really like to set up a RAID or something like that so that my assistants and I can all access the same media at the same time. I'm vaguely aware of a way to configure some firewire drives to do this with a piece of mystery (to me) hardware. I'm not clear how Does anyone know how I would do this?
