ProRes 422 (HQ) with Linear PCM Audio? - 9 years agoHello all, Have been tasked with exporting some projects for a digital sales group. They've requested the final deliverables to be in ProRes422 (HQ) with Linear PCM audio mix. In addition I'm providing uncompressed .WAV files (audio only). I've not had experience with the Linear PCM audio choices, but it was my understanding that Uncompressed audio attached to ProRes422 is in fact Linear PCby EntityMedia - Adobe Premiere Pro CC FCPX to FCP7 - 12 years agoReceived a drive from a client with a project that had already been started. Client didn't know what version of FCP was used. It's FCPX. Is there a way to convert from FCPX to 7.0.3? Thanks!by EntityMedia - Café LA - X Re: Default Audio Transition - 12 years agoDerek's method worked perfect. I also use the CMD-OPT-T as opposed to right click. I'm do a lot of work with Motocross/Supercross races and a lot of run-and-gun style pieces. Typically there's a ton of background noise (bikes, generators, crowds, etc.) so I do a lot of 2-3 frame audio transitions from bite to bite to smooth things out. Each time I right click and add the transition, I have to takeby EntityMedia - Café LA Re: Tilt and Shift - 13 years agoMagic Bullet Looks also has a nice Tilt & Shift.by EntityMedia - Café LA File > Open - 13 years agoRecently put a new hard drive in my MBP, and installed everything fresh from the ground up. Now when I go into FCP and open a project, my File/Open box appears on the right monitor instead of the left. Once i move it to the left, it will stay there for that FCP session. But if I close FCP, upon the next launch the Open box will be on the right. It's been a learning experience (unfortunately), but there is some light at the end of the tunnel. We've gotten ahold of his investors, as well as some of the sponsors. His coordinating producers at ESPN are next on the list. Thanks again. -Chrisby EntityMedia - Café LA Re: Getting The Shaft on a Payment - 13 years agoNormally I work on 50/50 agreements. I took the job 2 days before we started editing, and only had 5 days to turn it around so I didn't really get into it. I do have a one-page memo deal sent via email, with a response from him agreeing to the terms. I've since been in touch with the previous production company that he burned. They managed to get payment, but only because he paid them beforeby EntityMedia - Café LA Getting The Shaft on a Payment - 13 years agoHello, I recently took a last-minute job as an editor on a show for ESPN2. We had less than a week to edit the show, and ended up spending about 95 hours in 5 days getting it completed for air. The client was happy, it made air and the ratings were higher than they were hoping for. Since then, the client has gone completely dark on communication. No text, email, phone call responses.by EntityMedia - Café LA Re: Apple Mighty Mouse vs Magic Mouse - 14 years agoDerek - you hit the nail on the head. The thing I love so much about the Mighty Mouse is it's shape. The little center ball keeps overall movement to a minimum and decreases the amount of times you lift your hand or move the mouse around. The left/right movement is invaluable for me in FCP. I've tried "pretending" the Mighty was a Magic and used my fingers as if I was swiping left/rby EntityMedia - Café LA Apple Mighty Mouse vs Magic Mouse - 14 years agoSo I've blown through my third Mighty Mouse in three years, and of course all Apple offers is the new Magic Mouse. I can find a few places where they are still available but I'm considering the Magic Mouse. My questions is, for Final Cut Editors, which do you prefer? I'm going to run to the local Apple store tomorrow to play around with the Magic Mouse, but for those who've used both what arby EntityMedia - Café LA Re: Tab Switching - 14 years agoAwesome - thanks for the quick response. You guys rock.by EntityMedia - Café LA Tab Switching - 14 years agoIs anyone aware of a hotkey that will allow you to swap from tab-to-tab inside the timeline (similar to, say... Apple-Tab to switch from program to program)?by EntityMedia - Café LA Re: hard drive for docu - 14 years agoI've had a lot of success so far with the OWC Mecury Pro Q2 (4 bay raid).by EntityMedia - Café LA Re: Flip Hd - 15 years agoI have a client who occasionally sends me some stuff that was captured on one of those Mino Flip HD cams. Because it shoots in a compressed MPG format, you'll need to drop all the files into Compressor and convert them to either H.264 or ProRes depending on your project. You can drop the Mino files directly into FCP, but because they're compressed you will need to render both audio and videby EntityMedia - Café LA Identifying Time Gaps - 15 years agoA lot of times while editing, I find I need to determine how long the gap is between two clips. Typically I fill in the gap with a slug, find out the length of the slug and then delete it. Is there a better/faster way to do this? Thanks. -Chrisby EntityMedia - Café LA Re: Motion Tab Skews When Making Keyframes - 15 years agoOkay, at least it's not just me. I'll submit a bug report. Thanks everyone.by EntityMedia - Café LA Re: Motion Tab Skews When Making Keyframes - 15 years agoYes, the skewed keyframe graph in the viewer was what I was referring to. I realize it's not a problem, but my original question was am I the only one seeing it. Is it an issue with my display, or a bug in FCP? Simply double-clicking the clip again or switching to another tab and coming back fixes it but is this a problem that is isolated to my setup, or should this be sent to Apple's attentioby EntityMedia - Café LA Motion Tab Skews When Making Keyframes - 15 years agoHello, I've noticed in the past that while making any sort of keyframes on the SCALE of a clip, for some reason it shifts the timeline in the canvas over a little bit to the right. It's an easy fix - either double click on the clip again, or bounce over to the filters tab and then back to motion, but either way should it be doing this? Am I the only one experiencing it? I've attached a coby EntityMedia - Café LA RIDERS F1RST Charity Featuring David Bailey - 15 years agoJust wanted to share this video with others on the FCP board. I put a ton of effort into this one, and am pretty happy with how it turned out. I had less than 2 weeks to shoot and edit this piece. Film features the history of American Motocross Champion David Bailey, who was injured at the peak of his career in 1987. The injury left Bailey paralyzed from the waist down, just 2 months afterby EntityMedia - Show and Tell Re: Creating transitions using logos - 15 years agoThis is something i would normally do in After Effects, just for the motion blur and the capability to render it as an Alpha+RGB file. But if you want to do it in final cut try this: Double click on the logo and go into the Motion tab. Turn on Motion Blur and play around with the # of samples and blur percentage. That may help clean up some of the jerkiness you're experiencing.by EntityMedia - Café LA Re: Re-Attaching Audio Clips to Video - 15 years agoBoth of those methods worked great. Thanks very much! -Cby EntityMedia - Café LA Re-Attaching Audio Clips to Video - 15 years agoHello, So, hoping I can get some help. I've agreed to help a friend of mine finish some edits, and help clean up a project he's trying to get done and out to market on DVD (it's a Freestyle Motocross film). He's given me a hard drive that one of his partners has been working on. Yep, just as you expected the drive is a mess and the file structure is screwed up. Every time a client hands me one of those things, I groan. They have terrible power management, and inevitably they fail. Do yourself a favor - back that drive up and then use it as aby EntityMedia - Café LA Re: Shuttle Pro - 15 years agoI had difficulty letting go of the physical aspect of editing when I switched to Final Cut. I bought the shuttle pro2, and used it with a lot of success. Then the Mighty Mouse came out and that pretty much ended the daily usage of the shuttle pro. I moved about 18 months ago, and never bothered to unpack it. It definitely helped me make the transition though...by EntityMedia - Café LA Re: Setting up Raid Drives for FCP usage - 15 years agoCorrect, the OWC drive offers Raid 5.by EntityMedia - Café LA Setting up Raid Drives for FCP usage - 15 years agoAfter a couple of near misses on some external drives that went south, I've finally put some funds into a redundant raid system. I just purchased an OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro Qx2 external. It's a 4 bay drive. I've got 6 additional 500G hard drives on the way. So, my question is about formatting and the Raid setup. What would everyone suggest I do regarding drive formatting? (Mac OS Extendeby EntityMedia - Café LA Re: Sort By Option - 15 years agoDerek's first suggestion worked perfect. Thanks for the input guys!by EntityMedia - Café LA Sort By Option - 15 years agoHello, Working with footage from a 3-camera shoot, shot over 3 days time. I didn't handle the P2 conversion's - I got handed a hard drive with footage "sort of" sorted into bins. I always like to create a sequence of each days shots, sorted by "Media Start". This way I can view the whole day in a sort-of real time sequence. However, all of the quicktime files were putby EntityMedia - Café LA FCP Audio Filters - 15 years agoHi, got a question about FCP Audio Plugins. I shoot a lot of run-and-gun stuff at professional Motocross and Supercross races. One of my biggest gripes is the general noise in the background in the pits. During interviews with riders and team managers, it's inevitable that we're going to pick up generators humming in the background, pressure washers cleaning bikes, crowds walking through tby EntityMedia - Café LA |
