FCS Maintenance Pack - 14 years agoWhile looking around for a newer version of FCS Rescue which isn't available anymore, I discovered the Digital Rebellion site that has a trouble shooting software package called FCS Maintenance Pack. The package is $99 but also comes with Preference Manager which does the same thing as FCS Rescue. The Maintenance Package sounds like it fixes all kinds of problems and would be good to have aroundby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Clean install of Final Cut Studio 3 - 14 years agoThanks, Jeff. I thought the Time Machine Back up was bootable -- but I double checked and you were right -- it is NOT. So I cloned my entire HD to another free internal HD and have a complete up to date bootable copy. Now that I have a safe back up, I'm going to "Go for it" as Noah and Nick suggested and install FC3 over FC2 and see what happens. I have so many 3rd party plug ins forby shelleyrae - Café LA Interesting fonts for video - 14 years agoHi, I know that fonts with thin lines and sarifs fall apart in video, but I'm so bored with Arial and Impact. There may be a few others that shipped with FCS but the choices seem limited for video. Yet I see all kinds of interesting fonts on trailers and movie openers. Does anyone have any sites to recommend where I can get some interesting fonts that will hold up on screen? Thanks, Shby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Clean install of Final Cut Studio 3 - 14 years agoAs I mentioned in a previous post, I do have my internal OS hard drive completely backed up on a bootable external drive and it updates every day with TimeMachine. Sure would like to take the short cut like Nick and Noah, but am too busy to have a lot of down time if there are problems. Are the odds very high that there will be problems installing on top or minimal? So if I did the FCS 3 iby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Outputting 16:9 Aspect Ratio to uncompressed QT - 14 years agoThanks for all the input. Where I find I have the most trouble with this is when I'm trying to mix 4:3 with 16:9 footage in the same timeline. I have been enlarging and stretching the the 4:3 manually to fit in the 16:9 AR to match the 16:9 clips. I know this is a complete hack way of doing it -- but when I put the anamorphic squeeze filter on 4:3 it looks even worse. I don't have any probleby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Clean install of Final Cut Studio 3 - 14 years agoHi Andrew, I appreciate your frankness. I do have another internal drive that I could use once I back it up. Then I could just erase that, install my OS and take my time reinstalling all the application software when I have a few hours here and there -- then eventually switch over to that drive for my main operating system. That's a really good idea. Thanks, Shelleyby shelleyrae - Café LA Clean install of Final Cut Studio 3 - 14 years agoHi Everyone - I would really like to upgrade to Final Cut Studio 3. What's stopping me is remembering what a pain in the ass it was to upgrade last time. I was told the right way to upgrade was to wipe my drive clean and reinstall the operating system, and all my applications from the original install discs. Then run the all the upgrades on each of the apps. Like most of you, I have seveby shelleyrae - Café LA Outputting 16:9 Aspect Ration to uncompressed QT - 14 years agoHi, I'm working in 16:9 standard def. When I bring my 16:9 source material into my timeline it looks fine, but when I go to export to uncompressed QT the aspect ratio changes to 3:4. I'm also having trouble working in with 16:9 in Motion. There isn't a setting for this so I've had to manually force it to fit which is distorting the image a bit. What can I do to resolve these issues?by shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Viewing Motion Projects on External Monitor - 14 years agoI didn't know that had to be set in Motion so I just changed the viewing options in Motion Preferences and now I can see my Motion project on the external monitor. What a treat. Now... do you have any idea why when I'm working in FC, I lose viewing capabilities on the external monitor? I constantly have to reset "View All Frames" (view - external monitor - all frames). I'm not sure wby shelleyrae - Motion Motion Crashes - 14 years agoHi, Motion has been periodically crashing and then a message appears that says "Motion application quit unexpectedly may have something to do with the Ozone application" or something like that. I don't recalled installing an application with that name. When I do a spotlight search, nothing comes up. Does anyone know what this could be or how I can get it to stop crashing? Thanksby shelleyrae - Motion Viewing Motion Projects on External Monitor - 14 years agoI've never been able to view my Motion projects on my external monitor while working in Motion. Once I bring the project into FC, however, I can see it on the external monitor. I have the ATI Radeon HD 3870 graphics card. My set up is Mini DV deck to computer, Panasonic CT2010Y monitor to deck. Why can't I see my Motion Projects on the external monitor while I'm actually working in Motion aby shelleyrae - Motion Re: AVI file questions - 14 years ago"What exactly are you trying to do?" I'm trying to make an AVI file taken off a surveillance camera look cleaner. Someone told me there was a way to up convert an AVI file to HD and I'm said I don't think that is possible. And was pretty sure that laying off an edited sequence using QTs that were made from AVI and then laid off to HDCam tape would not make any difference in the quaby shelleyrae - Café LA AVI file questions - 14 years agoHi, Please help me settle a debate. If you have an original AVI file, then convert it to a QT so you can edit in Final Cut and then lay off your sequence to a HD Cam tape, will that improve the quality? In other words, would the playback on an HD Cam tape look better than playback on mini DV? I'm saying "no" because the information on the original file AVI is all you haveby shelleyrae - Café LA Podcasting - 14 years agoHello, I have several short TV show segments that I edited in FC Pro. My client would like me turn these into Podcasts. Do I need additional software like Apple's Podcast Producer 2 to accomplish this or is there an easier way to create Podcasts with Final Cut? This Podcast Producer 2 looks like it includes editing software which I really don't need. Thoughts?by shelleyrae - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Exploding or Shattered Type - 14 years agoHi Everyone, I'm working on project where the client is requesting a type treatment I don't yet know how to accomplish (of course I didn't tell him that - fake it till you make it) I need to make type come on the screen - stay in tact for a few - then explode in to pieces. Kind of like shattered glass. Can you offer any suggestions on how I could make type appear to explode and break aby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Need Help Fast - Render File Issue - 14 years agoGot it. Thanks for your help. Shelleyby shelleyrae - Café LA Re: Need Help Fast - Render File Issue - 14 years agoThanks Ben for giving me a quick answer. I double checked and yes, I was wrong about the available space on the designated drive, so I'm deleting some old QT files that are eating up space to make some more room. But I'm still wondering what happens when you delete those render files? Does it mess up your project or does your timeline just become unrendered and you have to re-render everythingby shelleyrae - Café LA Need Help Fast - Render File Issue - 14 years agoHi, I'm working on a project and ran into something I've never ran across before. I went to render part of my sequence and got a message saying I'm out of render space and need to remove some render files. I have more than 56 gigs on the drive where the render folder for this project is so I don't understand why there is a space issue. I'm afraid to remove the render files for fear it will screby shelleyrae - Café LA Do these files need to be so big? - 14 years agoHi everyone - I'm working with source footage that is only available on DVD. I'm using Mpeg Streamclip to extract the VOB file and exporting it as QT with settings: Apple FC uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 at 100% quality. The VOB file is only 1023.8 mb -- the video is an hour long. The QT file turns out to be 83 gigs with this setting. The video plays inside the frames which is nice, but it cuts off the tops and sides of the video. Is there a way to resize to shrink the video within that "frame" in the template so that the video fits within the frame without being cut off? Thanks, Shelleyby shelleyrae - DVD Studio Pro Rulers not appearing - 14 years agoThis is driving me crazy. I can't see my rulers no matter what I do. I went to the Motion preferences and set them the ruler color to red (my background is black). Open the project, turn on "show overlays" and "rulers". I see the rulers on the top and left but when I click to pull a line for lining up it doesn't show up. The client sent me a list of 700 names in a Word document. I cut and pasted the copy in the text box in the Motion text editor. I can see all the names in Motion but once I bring it into Final Cut it disappears. The other day I had another long list of names to scroll that was also sent in a Word document and I cut and pasted in the texby shelleyrae - Motion Re: Need Help with Motion WorkFlow - 15 years agoIf you're sending the whole thing over with handles on either side of the clips then send to Motion, add your titles and backgrounds, etc. then and back to FC -- even though it becomes a nested one-clip sequence, why couldn't you just blade between each clip and add the transitions in FC since now each clip is longer with sufficient handles and the effects from Motion. I think that's what Judeby shelleyrae - Motion Re: Need Help with Motion WorkFlow - 15 years agoBut Jude Cotter had a better idea. She recommended: "My recommendation would be to build in handles before you send out to Motion. So, in the timeline, make them all, say, one second too long, then send out to motion, add fx leaving the one second handles top and tail of each clip, then back to fcp, trim off the handles, add transitions."by shelleyrae - Motion Re: Need Help with Motion WorkFlow - 15 years agoFor those who may have a similar question, here what I wound up doing: I cut the sequence together in FC with no transitions. I duplicated my video track and sent the duplicate to Motion for reference. I built my titles, background, particle layers. Then exported each layer separately (without the video reference). Once back in FC, I placed all my layers in appropriate order and then addedby shelleyrae - Motion Need Help with Motion WorkFlow - 15 years agoHi, I don't understand how to add transitions when working in Motion. I am making a tribute video using all stills. I built my timeline in FC. I want to bring it into Motion and add a background and some nice animated type then bring it back into FC and add various transitions between my stills. I'm comparing the FX Factory free trial effects and these are also very cool. I love all the transitions choices and the fact that like Sapphire, you can experiment with the parameters to get a variety of looks from one transition. The FX Factory package price is much easier on the wallet. I appreciate the info. Shelleyby shelleyrae - Café LA |
