crushingly URGENT help needed - multiclips offline - 10 years agoAll the mulitclips in my project file prepped by another editor are offline. All assets are on a central server. I reconnect them from the project file as well as the time line, although they are now connected in the project file they still show as offline in the timeline. there is also separate audio recorded and previously synced using PluralEyes, but when reconnecting the rushes and makiby Wanted Man - Café LA Cost Effective Mini DV tape ingest for FCP7 ??? - 10 years agoHi, I have a prospective client offering work who wants me to digitise his footage, would anyone be able to advise the most cost effective way of doing this? The work is corporate and potentially high-volume so i'm looking to get back to them with a competitive quote for the work, digitisation of source material inclusive. OSX 10.8.2 FCP 7.0 2.7 Intel Core i7 16GB 1600 Mhz I presume aby Wanted Man - Café LA Re: on-set audio recorded too low, raising volume = hiss - 10 years agoInteresting stuff Loren, and thanks Derek great info and perspective on sound recording, thanks guys, WM,by Wanted Man - Café LA Re: on-set audio recorded too low, raising volume = hiss - 10 years agoThanks Joe, Scott, I've tried both your suggestions before to varying degrees of success, I guess it's going to have to be a combination of the two again, i'll also continue hunting and searching online / other audio apps. The script is good the footage absolutely incredible ( they got lucky with a very good DP to shoot it ) cinema-grade DP, and a separate guy for the sound but it's just suchby Wanted Man - Café LA Re: Proper FCP7 Audio Filter to use for Distorted Peaks - 10 years agothe filter effects the whole clip unless you cut the audio track and dissolve back to the normal audio. you could also try maybe lowering the mid and high-end frequency of the distorted sections with the HQ filter. unfortunately this kind of thing is often chalked up to experience via feedback you give the director or sound dept, although irritating for the editor especially if your names goinby Wanted Man - Café LA Re: Proper FCP7 Audio Filter to use for Distorted Peaks - 10 years agoIf the wave-form is topping out its ruined, it's distorted and you can't get rid of that. the best you can do is use the pen tool to stop it from peaking at least. Any audio filter applied to the clip will effect the whole clip and muffle the quieter dialogue, unless key-framed or you cut the peak either side and use dissolves. Although if it's for a friend maybe he'd be available for some ADby Wanted Man - Café LA on-set audio recorded too low, raising volume = hiss - 10 years agoHi all - on a tight deadline and need some swift advice . it's been a long time since i've delt with audio recorded with such variants in volume . . the on-set audio is recorded too low and raising the volume in FCP to make it match the properly recorded audio results in hissing and noise that brutally disrupts the edit / performance of the actors, with monologues being constructed from varioby Wanted Man - Café LA Re: .wav audio files not audible when dragged to second layer - 10 years agoegg on my face - sequence settings were mis-matched . . Cheers Loren, WMby Wanted Man - Café LA .wav audio files not audible when dragged to second layer - 10 years ago. . . my wav audio files are not audible when dragged to the second layer down in the sequence, however the content is causing movement in the audio-levels metre. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it? Many thanks, WMby Wanted Man - Café LA Re: Syncing XDCAM rushes in FCP - 10 years agoCheers for all your contributions you lot and thanks for your time on that Derek, I'll be able to make short work of this now . . WM,by Wanted Man - Café LA Re: Syncing XDCAM rushes in FCP - 10 years agoOnce i've synced the right audio to the clips, is there a way I can get the audio to match the clips / takes used in the previously cut edit? Surely i'm not going to have to rebuild the entire edit with the new rushes? . . ahhh - also i can just sync the takes used, think i'm getting the picture now . .by Wanted Man - Café LA Re: Syncing XDCAM rushes in FCP - 10 years ago. . . right, the assemble has been done using on-camera audio only. So I'll be syncing the boom-mic audio to the chosen takes in the final edited version. There are blank gaps dotted throughout the audio timeline also. I've also never used PluralEyes or 'match frame' before, so don't really understand the previously suggested workflows. I am unfortunately unable to get PluralEyes as i'm on a zby Wanted Man - Café LA Re: Syncing XDCAM rushes in FCP - 10 years agoThanks for the advice all, I have some further questions but will wait until i've got the hard drive and had a look at the timeline, Cheers, WMby Wanted Man - Café LA Syncing XDCAM rushes in FCP - 10 years agoI'm syncing the audio to a short comedy film shot in XDCAM. The director has stated "We have an edit which only has camera sound, we have the sound files. I need the sound files synced to the shots used in the edit" - Why would the initial editor have not edited with the audio to the visual of each chosen shot? All the time! They LOVE us for it. And we get paid. - Loren Indeed! But have you not ever been gobsmacked when a 'director' has the sheer nerve to take credit for your edit-innovations and ideas right in front of your face? Creativity is currency!? WM,by Wanted Man - Café LA Re: Liable Through A Fictional Film - 10 years agoI would suggest maybe you look at similar cases involving your concerns for guidance (?) . As far as I know the 'Chernobyl Diaries' guys received not a single cent. The 'Premium Rush' issue IMO is even more shocking . Basically people with less talent and no ideas are always ready and willing to steal to make a buck.by Wanted Man - Café LA Re: Questions for the Director - 10 years agoIMO Menke's work is without a doubt superior to Raskin's in every possible way taking into account what she did for QT up to the point of her death, I'm not saying you can't have the opinion that (in your opinion) her work was better on some films than others, my only contention is that by a wide margin she was responsible for a lot of the 'style' attributed to QT's films prior the clear mess thaby Wanted Man - Café LA Re: Questions for the Director - 10 years agoI've always respected your opinion Derek, but that was just one experience I had and how I feel about it, it wasn't hollywood work, it wasn't even TV work. It was one experience and does not represent my 'attitude' to my job as an editor (maybe i should have put in a disclaimer ) My experience illustrated was while working for a truly talentless 'director' who has since gone on to do nothing.by Wanted Man - Café LA Re: Questions for the Director - 10 years agoMy opinion is, to get this initial input from the director and go up to or maybe slightly above the 'call of duty' on those ideas, but (especially when it's not your film) be careful how much of your talent and film making ability you put into the job without specific direction or you could literally be moulding a useless director's career with your talent. Rates vary from 29.97, 23.98, 30, 25, 24, 11, 10, and 14.99fps. and the majority of clips are H.264. Clearly a nightmare. It all plays fine in sync in the timeline start to finish however.
