anyone remember media100? i used to use a mid-level version (i link it was lx?) back in like 1997. it was by far the most responsive and solid NLE ive used. yeah, i know it was a hardware+software solution. but it was 1997!!! id like to think our base hardware in 2011 would be at least as good as dedicated boards from 13 years ago... looks like boris owns it now. but i was wondering if anby wayne granzin - Café LA

for some time now, when i do batch exports (typically dvcprohd to 720 mp4 h.264) fcp will pretty reliably' "unexpectedly quit" 6-10 clips into the batch. is there some known issue that im not aware of? fcp 6, usually going out to a 7200rpm single drive. connected via esata or fw800.by wayne granzin - Café LA

i never upgraded to FCP7 from the last version of 6. two questions: 1. is there anything game changing in 7 that 6 doesnt have 2. i see that apple has removed all things FCP from its store site. i guess a retail store with a boxed 7 upgrade is my only option...?by wayne granzin - Café LA - X

when im doing a time intensive (several minutes or more) activity in photoshop, a progress bar appears in the finder-level "command+tab"/application switcher view. which is VERY handy for not actually having to enter the app to gauge its progress. would be cool if FCP did that as well...by wayne granzin - FCP Feature Requests

this is a small one but would be exceeding handy none the less. i nearly NEVER add "rotation" a clip. but i change opacity all the time. id like to see the opacity motion setting replace rotation up in the default open state of "basic motion".by wayne granzin - FCP Feature Requests

Quoteif you do decide to run Windows then make sure you have the latest Service Pack (SP) installed, run something like SpyBot and if for the love of gawd don't use the internet unless absolutely necessary. The good news is that if you do use a separate drive then your main system drive will not be affected if your Windoze drive gets infected. do any of you run windows (via bootcamp, paralells, or whatever) on your production FCP machines? and if so have you seen any problems? im getting kinda tired of running upstairs to my PC to do quickbooks invoicing and was considering putting it on my octocore. i would probably install a second internal physical drive to serve as my windows drive... would that be smart? admittedly i dontby wayne granzin - Café LA

dont get me wrong, im never going to argue proven stats. but the application of a lot of that kind of data is esoteric and pretty subjective. its like the difference between a 2.8 and a 3.2 macpro. is there a difference? sure. is it a difference enough to justify an extra grand to anyone who isnt churning out deadline dependent product every minute of the day? that's up for debate...by wayne granzin - Café LA

the test was internal drive to internal drive. so i should have even had the 7200 v 5400 rpm advantage... not that it matters in this case (as far as i know) but all my typical work is on OWC or caldigit RAIDS on a caldigit fasta eSATA cardby wayne granzin - Café LA

and yes again, i have noticed (more so on my intel box than any previous G_ machine) that FREQUENTLY on first attempt to do various tasks - things like transferring LARGE volumes, or big renders, the response and resulting transfer is crazy-ass slow. stop and redo it, and all is back to normal...by wayne granzin - Café LA

i just bought a new $899 macbook NONpro (because i just needed another machine and it was the most reasonably priced option) just for @#$%& and giggles i did a race between it and my 16gig 2.8 octocore macpro. on rendering a little 10 second, 3 layer text animation to the desktop in after effects. the macbook actually BEAT the macpro by about a second. i didnt take time to check all theby wayne granzin - Café LA

was it powered on when the assault happened? i cant imagine that having a huge effect unless it was powered when the moisture contacted... i dont know if this is any comfort, but i had a mac laptop that took on a floor full of tap water a few years ago. for the first few days it wouldnt power up, then after like a week of drying time all was back to normal... however fwiw, this is anotherby wayne granzin - Café LA
