Re: Transition Plug in Package - 15 years agohey shelley, hope you didnt take any insult at my last comment. im just not one to dink about looking for instructions. i learned after effects way back before adobe bought it from cosa, and there WASNT a manual. i learned then that there is a LOT to be learned by just clicking around and seeing what does what. a lot of the sapphire stuff hinges around terms like spread, density, intensityby wayne granzin - Café LA Re: Transition Plug in Package - 15 years agoi dont know why youd need instructions for the sapphire stuff. none of them are that technical. just find one that looks right and play with all the sliders to see what each one does. if you were motion tracking, chroma keying, speed ramps or things like that - there IS some bits there that would need explanation. but really most of the sapphire stuff is pretty intuitive...by wayne granzin - Café LA Re: Ran Out of Daylight... - 15 years agoabout the only way i know how to replace something like that would be motion tracking software.by wayne granzin - Café LA Re: OT - a brush with NBA GREATNESS and ANOTHER testimony to OWC drive products - 15 years agoalways, always, ALWAYS reformat ANY drive you buy before using it - apparently especially under osx leopard.by wayne granzin - Café LA "red screens of unhappiness" - reconnect media already knows where it should go... - 15 years agook, i just moved a large volume of media from one drive to another and as would be expected, FCP opened to various messages of missing media... understood. but when i go to "reconnect media" and hit search - the window goes straight to where the clip now lives (in the same directory structure it did before the move)... you'd think if FCP was THAT aware of where things were. itby wayne granzin - Café LA OT - a brush with NBA GREATNESS and ANOTHER testimony to OWC drive products - 15 years agomid-week last week i ordered a large OWC RAID drive from macsales.com. this one to be specific: early friday morning it started having issues unmounting itself. nothing catastrophic, just going offline periodically... i got my project finished and delivered and went about my day so, while i was out and about - lunch with girlfriend, office supply store, yadda, yadda...we stopped off at aby wayne granzin - Café LA Re: Sapphire plug ins - 15 years agoive been using them for years. of their 200 or so effects, there are about 10 that are hard to live without. 50 that can be handy and the rest are mainly fluff, or something you'll use like maybe once a year. the thing is that the 10 must haves and 50 that are handy pretty nearly justify the price of the full package... i do agree with michael that their ridiculously-high pricing needsby wayne granzin - Café LA Re: XDCAM EX 1 hr timeline very slow to export to QT movie - 15 years agoperformance does indeed dip as a drive gets full-er... also did you maybe update your quicktime version or something?by wayne granzin - Café LA Re: XDCAM EX 1 hr timeline very slow to export to QT movie - 15 years agoyou say: QuoteIn the past this same process normally takes less than an hour in the past was it XDCAM EX as well? she broke her leg or something..." i had to read shane's thread title 3 times before it sunk in. really sad. i have this screenplay in my head that i'll never make and i'd always imagined her in the lead role.by wayne granzin - Café LA Re: Canon 5D Mark 11 footage - 15 years agoyou might try for info over at dvxuser.comby wayne granzin - Café LA OT - OWC customer service KUDO! - 15 years agoi received in the mail today (without any prior notice) a small package from OWC. i opened it and to my surprise, inside was a small fan assembly. apparently they had a run of hard drive enclosures where they installed 6500rpm fans that should have been 4500rpm. the printed notice said this was to reduce the chance of unwanted noise from the drive. that is some SUPERB customer service!by wayne granzin - Café LA Re: Canon 5D Mark 11 footage - 15 years agoof topic, but that's Mark ll not Mark 11by wayne granzin - Café LA Re: Scary Audio instruction - 15 years agocan anyone explain how voiceover would benefit ANYONE?by wayne granzin - Café LA Re: Ideal specs for making a pencil animation for projection? - 15 years agoi wouldnt hold myself hostage to the res of one specific projector. i say work with (the PAL equivalent of) 1080 HD and you'll be fine for anything downconverted. and when ive worked with animation files in the past (i RECEIVE them not CREATE them) they are generally a TIFF or TARGA files. and since you are drawing and not doing 3d modeling. i say your well of sticking with TIFFS instead oby wayne granzin - Café LA Re: Deleting old projects - 15 years agoYEEK! there are so many "what ifs" to this question... first of all, it really depends on where your scratch disc is and how you managed your files. if you have to ask this question, most files are likely in your documents folder. in a folder called final cut pro documents. and inside each of the subfolders within that (capture scratch, render files, etc, etc...) you will likely fiby wayne granzin - Café LA Re: Ideal specs for making a pencil animation for projection? - 15 years agowhats your experience with pencil animation? there is as much to figure out to do that well as any other part of the process... like noah said, really the biggest deal is going to be how you scan the drawings in. you'll want a good high resolution grayscale scan, id guess 300-600dpi at original size (depending on the subtleties you want to capture) then its just a matter of scaling and filteriby wayne granzin - Café LA Re: OT - clients just think its THIS simple... - 15 years agoQuoteunder file>export>Using Quicktime Conversion i have the option for windows media no. thats just a windows media format final movie. they were wanting something they could WORK with. like timeline wise...by wayne granzin - Café LA Re: Making a tape - 15 years agoi have intermittent issues doing log and transfer from P2 media where the log and transfer window wont play back audio. its there, you just cant hear it. then all of the sudden it just starts working again...by wayne granzin - Café LA Re: OT - clients just think its THIS simple... - 15 years agothe reason i do it is that here in houston, there are a lot of fly by night / wannabe producers, designers etc, who are here today, gone tomorrow. and many of the clients i work with have at one time or another been burned by such. so i just got into the process of adding $300 archival fee to every major project which provides them their content on a drive to take with them... many dont ask,by wayne granzin - Café LA Re: OT - Places to Buy Sound Equipment - 15 years agoQuoteGood grief guys, are we talking production sound or a Mackie mixer for your editing system? That's crazy. yeah, but it's just a ceremonial formality that i do to let the client know i have no intention of holding them or their work hostage. most clients never even turn on the drive, they appreciate it in the spirit its offered and thats it. i think the issue this time is that its a mac formatted drive and their HP/DELL/TOSHIBA/ETC off the shelf, bby wayne granzin - Café LA Re: OT - Places to Buy Sound Equipment - 15 years agosweetwater and fullcompass are my two vendors of choice. i do find fullcompass much more video-savvy though. they both have jumped though hoops for me in the past as far as educating me on item options and getting things fedexed for saturday morning and such...by wayne granzin - Café LA Re: OT - clients just think its THIS simple... - 15 years agoQuoteYeah, can you just do me a favor, and save that Final Cut project in Word format?
