Re: How do I export with Alpha channel? - 11 years agoHi Joey, and thank you very much for the advice. Best, Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: How do I export with Alpha channel? - 11 years agoOnce again, Strypes, thank you very much for the advice. Will do. Best wishes, Harry.by harry323 - Café LA How do I export with Alpha channel? - 11 years agoLadies and Gentlemen, I am cutting something with tons of composites and Neat Video and Lock&Load. Because I am bonkers, I am doing this in HDV. I want to export everything EXCEPT the background plates so that I can then re-import the rendered file and try out differing backgrounds faster (hopefully). I've messed around with the Alpha channel of the re-imported QT file, but I realby harry323 - Café LA Re: Sending clip from FCP to motion - problem - 11 years agoYup. It's in the Applications folder, as is Motion - and neither one of them is in a folder. So I would imagine that they should be aware of each other ... Thanks for ther eply, Strypes. Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Sending clip from FCP to motion - problem - 11 years agoLoren, Thanks so much for the reply. I have now tried highlighting the Sequence in the browser window, then going to File >Export> Motion, but the damn "Motion" thing is greyed out. If you have any further ideas, please let me know. But in any case, thanks so much for your suggestion. I hope I don't have to reinstall. Best Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Sending clip from FCP to motion - problem - 11 years agoHello, Happy Editors. I am trying to send an HDV 24p clip from FCP 6.0.5 to Motion 3.0.2 Upgrade. The Motion Project is also HDV 24p. When I control click on my clip in the FCP timeline, "send to Motion" is greyed out. Is this because my versions of FCP and Motion are incompatible? I've actually been reading the manual and I can't understand what I am doing wrong. Clearly FCPby harry323 - Café LA Re: OT: Happy Holidays to you all! - 11 years agoBelated Happies from Harry. And a billion thanks to all those who were so generous with their time in answering my idiotic questions over the past year - and to Michael Horton who, as usual, deserves a big Gold Star in his copybook for running this invaluable site populated by the wise and the witty. Best wishes, Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Deleted - 11 years agoYup. Thanks very much for your help and advice. Keep fingers crossed. It seems ok today. Best Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Deleted - 11 years agoIt's a minor miracle. I am still holding my breath. Many thanks for your advice and help, Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Deleted - 11 years agoHail John and Strypes + any others who have followed this ghastly thread. Here is report from the battlefront: By some quirk of circumstance - and certainly not because of any deep technical knowledge on my part - FCP 7.0.3 and HDV are now behaving perfectly. I am even getting RT Extreme playback from Lock&Load X. Of course I have made copious notes and saved my Prefs - and saved anyby harry323 - Café LA Re: Deleted - 11 years agoThank so much for the advice, Strypes. Your comment about possible slow drives is strange to me in that my drives are all 7200rpm and bought about a year ago. Anyway, I am still struggling here but plodding on. Best Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Deleted - 11 years agoOK.John. I will do that. ProRes 422 Sequence it will be - and ProRes rendering in the Sequence settings I imagine. Many thanks for your time and expertise. Any further thoughts welcome, but I will follow your advice. I've had enough of this nonsense. Harryby harry323 - Café LA Re: Deleted - 11 years agoI Imagine you are referring to the advice never to edit in HDV? That's advice I would happily take were it not for the fact that I have been using HDV to edit for ages and, aside from last November's widespread drama which you most generously helped to solve for me and a lot of others, I have had flawless performance from HDV. So it can be done. In any event perhaps, when you have a moment,by harry323 - Café LA Re: Deleted - 11 years agoJon, you are just the chap to ask this question about my crashing in HDV situation: I am running FCP 7.0.3 and OS 10.6.8. on a Mac 8 Core. Quicktime 7.6.6. I have been using your Crash Analyser which tells me: Incompatible Codec This crash appears to have been caused by a third-party codec. Suggested Actions Update all codecs. Use System Toolkit to disable or remove unnecessarby harry323 - Café LA Re: Deleted - 11 years agoGood to hear this information about Premiere. However, your comment about HDV rendering mystifies me. I did some tests a while ago and found that, on my system, HDV renders about 5 times faster than Standard ProRes. Same file. Same plugin. I timed it very carefully. My disks are 7200rpm and bought about a year ago. Best Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Deleted - 11 years agoBut, John, if I set my Sequence Setting to ProRes I have to endure the rendering time of ProRes - right? The reason I work a lot in HDV is that I transcode to it and then use it for cutting copies of all my work - simply because HDV renders faster ... 5 times faster than ProRes on my setup. Faster than ProRes Lite. Then I match it back to a more respectable format for the final output. It'sby harry323 - Café LA Re: Deleted - 11 years agoI apologize. I was having a bunch of problems with HDV in FCP 6.0.6. The problems happened after I reformatted drives and reinstalled everything because I bought new internal drives. It was a 2 week nightmare. Then I installed FCP 7.0 which I owned but had never installed and the crashing problems went away. So I felt that I had not really solved the problem, but sidestepped it. Mby harry323 - Café LA Deleted - 11 years agoI posted about an issue I have now solved, but I don't know how to delete my posting - only how to edit it. Sorry to waste your timeby harry323 - Café LA Re: Reconnecting media not working - 11 years agoWow ... That's major. Thanks for telling me. That saves a lot of trouble re-learning all the keyboard commands. Best Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Reconnecting media not working - 11 years agoHail, Jude and Strypes, Thank you both for your enormously informative postings about Premiere. Obviously things have changed and I absolutely have to check this thing out. I will download the demo version and have a go with it. Again, thank you both for going into such detail and taking the time. Best wishes, Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Reconnecting media not working - 11 years agoDear Jude and Strypes, Thanks for asking what I would miss in FCP if I moved to Premiere. Maybe you can set me straight because I haven't really done any heavy duty research. However, I do a lot of audio in FCP. When I need outside help I export and reimport in and out of this fancy software called iZotope RX2 Advanced and iZotope Ozone Advanced, both of which are frighteningly expensive.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Reconnecting media not working - 11 years agoDerek - thank you for your thoughtful reply which you posted while I was replying to Strypes. I had indeed done the XML thing, the autosave thing and tried weeping copiously. None of this worked. So I backed up, reformatted and reinstalled everything. Despite the misery caused by my senseless blunder of installing some dopey Apple system update - and I should have known better - the reformattby harry323 - Café LA Re: Reconnecting media not working - 11 years agoThanks for much for the reply, Strypes. After days of struggle, it turns out that it was indeed a ProApps upgrade which caused the problem, as you yourself suggest. Like an idiot I had forgotten to resist installing any upgrades and, emboldened by medicinal vodka, I had installed some Apple system upgrades. I ended up reformatting the drive and reinstalling FCS from the ground up, then throby harry323 - Café LA Reconnecting media not working - 11 years agoDear All, Got a spot of bother here. After a monumental struggle to repair my FCP system (6.0.6) after I mistakenly downloaded and installed a Pro Apps update which disagreed with my setup, I find that many shots have become disconnected. I have since reinstalled the correct ProApps and basically done everything one normally does like trashing and restoring prefs, shutting down - waitingby harry323 - Café LA Re: FCS v.7.0. Updates available? - 11 years agoI seeeee. So I should hide FCPX (which I never use) and probably also hide FCS 2? In fact - hide everything except FCS 7.0. Will try that. Best, Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: FCS v.7.0. Updates available? - 11 years agoAha ... I have it in a folder within the Applications folder. A folder of glowing beauty which I created all by myself and called "FCP 7". I thought that was pretty clever. But I am getting the idea that this is why I am not receiving updates - yes? I'll remove the FCP 7 folder and hope that I am offered updates - but since Apple doesn't support FCP 7 anymore, will I? Thanks foby harry323 - Café LA Re: FCS v.7.0. Updates available? - 11 years agoI have v.7.0., but "Software Update" does not offer me updates. Harry.by harry323 - Café LA FCS v.7.0. Updates available? - 11 years agoCan anyone please tell me if updates to FCS.v.7.0. are available anywhere? I realize that Apple is no longer supporting it, but perhaps there is some dark and secret place where one can obtain the updates. Many thanks, Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Is there any method of copy protecting one-off DVD copies? - 11 years agoHa! Thanks, Derek. Since there appears to be no technical solution that is practical I going to put this caption on the front of the film. Bear in mind that these 6 copies are being sent to a selected few, so it seems borderline rude to put on the usual threatening copyright notice. Of course there is a copyright notice within the film itself. This pre-release copy of 'xyz' has been givby harry323 - Café LA |
