Re: 35mm reels - 17 years agoDon't even think about 10 minute reels (actually 11 minutes). You will pay more in neg cutting (extra leaders) and assembly and I'm not even sure if Eastman makes 1000' rolls of print stock anymore. 2000' of 35mm grinding along at 90' per minute gives you 22 mins. You have to allow for threading the printer camera and for leads and tails. Talk to the lab. Be prepared to deliver, therefore, six masters. And by the way, they all have to have M&E tracks on 3&4. I've just been doing exactly that for the past few days. Here's what I did: 1. Go through your movie snipping and copying single frames and dropping them into a new timeline. 2. In the new timeline, don't leave spaces between your stills. 3. Select one of your stills in the new timeline and double click - taking you to the MOTION TAB. Go to DISTORT. Apply a minus 33.33% change. H.by harry323 - Café LA Pan and Scan in FCP - 17 years agoCan anyone guide me to a tutorial on how to do simple pan and scan in FCP? Not looking to do anything complicated - just 16x9 image to be panned and scanned to 4x3. Thanks, Best Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Converting 1080p 23.98 HD to SD NTSC & PAL - 17 years agoShane, Thank you for your speedy reply. I do have a Blackmagic card and that will output on the fly (as you suggest) in letterbox which is cool for doing a one off copy ... However, I do want to create separate files for HD 16x9, HD 4x3 pan and scan and NTSC and PAL letterbox and pan and scan versions. So you reckon that DV/PAL and DV/NTSC would be ok, huh? When I go to "Export" "Quicktime conversion" I am presented with a million different codecs including all the Blackmagic ones. Harryby harry323 - Café LA Re: Recommended camera - 17 years agoHail Grafixjoe, O Wise One. When the Sony camera first appeared at DV Expo in LA I tottered down there and spent about an hour futzing around with it. I found the 24p setting to be strangely jerky and somehow uneven. I tried all sorts of different shutter settings etc. I also found the Sony people obnoxious, unhelpful and unwilling to assist me in putting the camera through its paces. However, I digitize into DVCPro HD to avoid HDV editing hassles. Don't get the Sony Z1. Best Harry. PS. If you're anywhere near me (Hollywood Hills) you can totter round and fool around with the camera and check out the material we shot in March.by harry323 - Café LA Re: O/T - have you ever created a website for a movie? - 17 years agoKen - what a fantastic article. I had hoped that, by stating in my "subject line" that it was off topic, I would get help from other film-makers who understand exactly what direction I need to take for a movie website. Best Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Playhead sync. Can't get it to stay on. - 17 years agoI'm attempting to color time a film, which in itself is pretty laughable. However, poverty breeds such miserable circumstances. It seems that almost every time I move the playhead to a new shot, "Playhead Sync" moves to the "Off" position, which apparently makes FCP unable to display my changes on my external monitor, although I can see them in the canvas. Perhaps you would check my posting record - on this board and on the Sacred Cow and others. I have responded in depth to the inquiries which are within my purview.
