Re: HDV and ProRes mixed -> best workflow? (Output: SD-DVD and HD file) - 11 years agoYou are exactly correct. I was doing HDV renders to ProRes in an HDV timeline. So if I plonk HDV into a ProRes Timeline and set Sequence Settings to Render as ProRes you are saying it will render as fast as rendering HDV in HDV Timeline using Render as HDV? I will summon my team of slaves and conduct further tests. Damn. I thought I had it cracked. But there is also the whole question of dby harry323 - Café LA Re: HDV and ProRes mixed -> best workflow? (Output: SD-DVD and HD file) - 11 years agoHey, strypes, You say, above: "ProRes ... will speed up your render time for preview during the edit session, as you won't be rendering to HDV." Your experience is different to mine. I find that, when cutting HDV in an HDV Sequence, switching rendering from HDV to ProRes in the Sequence Settings in fact considerably slows down rendering time. I've searched online and can't find anything. Maybe all H.264 is 48k (?). I have an enormous amount of transcoding to ProRes to do and I want to know exactly what I am dealing with here. Harryby harry323 - Café LA - X Do I need Compressor X to make FCPX function properly? - 11 years agoLike a fool, I bought FCPX. Then, when I imported a couple of shots, FCPX went into a slo-mo tizzy and started behaving strangely - gurgling and urinating on the floor. So I assumed that it was trying to find Compressor X for transcoding and bought that for $50. Do I need Compressor X to make FCPX do its "Import and Transcode" thing? Just toss it in the Timeline - any old format - it'll play straight out of the box. What they failed to reveal was that all the transcoding and rendering and analysis has to take place up-front.
