Assuming you are fluent in FCP and guessing that this is a low budget indie film: 1. At minimum allow 6 weeks for a respectable first cut which will probably contain some "Scene Missing" and "Shot Missing" slugs. 2. Allow at least another 4 weeks for a fine cut. 3. If you are doing the sound too, allow at least 6 weeks for that including foley. Remember that you haveby harry323 - Café LA

I understand what you want. Here's a quick way to do this: Copy your sound effect to the end of your timeline to work on it. Now add a piece of audio SLUG right onto to the end of your sound effect. Make your SLUG about 2 seconds long. Export that concoction as a Quicktime audio (movie). Now grab that same Export and plonk it back into the timeline. My concern would be the legal delivery requirements of "xxx" TV/Cable station and whether the Prelinger Archive blanket statement that the stuff is in P.D. stands up to scrutiny and is acceptable to the legal/business affairs phone monkeys. Jude, I agree that a lot of Prelinger appears to be public domain and that they have some great stuff. But I don't think that Prelinger guarantees that. The original poster might do well to find out what PBS requires in terms of delivery of legal docs. I've got a nasty feeling that Prelinger is not in a position to state unequivocally that any particular shot is PD. I guess it depends onby harry323 - Café LA

Drop your photo of the newspaper into the Timeline. Position the Timeline's vertical line about 20 or 30 frames the LAST frame of your newspaper shot. Double click on the shot in the Timeline. You will now see it appear above in the Timeline in the VIEWER. Click on the tab in the viewer called MOTION. You are now about to set the END of your spin forwards into full frame. This links to four short Quicktime 1080p and 720p light-leak effects that seem so desirable these days. These are not plug-ins. They are short shots that some bloke did on an HVX 200 and kindly donated to the world. I bet they don't have this in FCP X. Best Harry.by harry323 - Café LA

I synced yards and yards of stuff which was already cut using Pluraleyes. It goes through the "camera" sound and the "separate" sound files glaring at the waveforms and finds the matching bits and pieces in your "separate" sound. It certainly isn't infallible and it takes a very very l-o-n-g time. I left it overnight and it took about 12 hours or so to sync up a &by harry323 - Café LA

I have never done a CLEAN INSTALL of FCP. My system is kinda crashy - it always has been. Do you think that running that FCP remover thing and then reinstalling from the ground up will decrease my crashes? Or is that a rhinosceros question? Harry.by harry323 - Café LA

Just received the "new software" thing from Apple. Is OSX 10.6.7 in the clear/safe for FCS? It's also asking if I want to install "ProKit 6.0.1" and I believe this - or v6.0.2 - was the one that caused me and many others endless FCP crashes and I should not install, right? Good morrow Happy Artists. I have an ordinary mouse. It's the one with the tiny little trackball on the top. Said tiny trackball has recently gone on a partial strike and frequently refuses to respond in the "up" rolling direction. It works fine in all the other dolling directions. Any ideas on how to open it up and clean the little ball mechanism? I am too stingy to buy a newby harry323 - Café LA

I believe that the cameras on the rail actually shoot a frame at precisely the same time, electronically controlled. Then when those pictures are assembled one gets this frozen-in-time track round effect. Best Harryby harry323 - Café LA

Does anyone know how I can view and hear a DVD output from Compressor prior to burning a disk? I want to check it for sync. I've been having a problem when I use QMaster on this 100 minute feature - I sometimes get sync drift. I've tried to view/hear in MPEG Streamclip, but I can't get any audio to play out of it (only video) and can't find anything in the Streamclip Prefs which allows me to hby harry323 - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion

D-Mac ... interesting diagnosis. I have found the cause of the problem. I normally record on 2 channels of audio on the camera but on this occasion I was recording on 4 channels. It turns out that, although the internal tape deck of the Canon Xl-H1 camera records all 4 tracks and picture just fine, the Focus Enhancements Firestore hard disk recorder has a problem with 4 channel audio.
