Re: Can I ONLINE-EDIT in Broadcast Quality with FCP? - 12 years agoYes. Best wishes, Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Soundtrack Pro vs. Pro Tools - 12 years agoFrank, That's weird -- my ProTools 9 includes the MBox mini 2 on which it seems to depend for monitoring. But maybe you have a better version than I do. Best Harryby harry323 - Café LA Re: Converting a finished 35mm movie to digital for FCP use - 12 years agoThe last film I had HD'd from 35mm was also 100 mins long and from a low contrast print which had been previously color corrected by Mato at Fotokem. I booked 16+ hours, but it was done in 13 hours excluding sound layback. He was also doing the pan and scan from a 1:2.35 anamorphic scope movie. Best Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: I think I installed ProKit 601 by mistake - crashing - 12 years agoFixed it thanks to the info in the sticky. Many thanks to those who contributed to that. Saved me again. Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: I think I installed ProKit 601 by mistake - crashing - 12 years agoSorry, Michael - I just found the sticky Apologies all round Can you come round a fix my keyboard now? Harryby harry323 - Café LA I think I installed ProKit 601 by mistake - crashing - 12 years agoHell - I think I must have installed ProKit 6.0.1 by mistake along with other Apple downloads because FCP is having a crashing great time. I mean A LOT of crashing; and when I go to Software Update "ProKit" no longer appears FCP 6.0.6 and Snow Leopard 10.6.6. Can any of you kind people out there tell me how to un-install this? Or is there a fix? I have, of course, done allby harry323 - Café LA Re: In desperate need of help! Final Cut Pro suddenly distorts audio!?? - 12 years agoHa! This one again! I had this years ago - Sudden Explosive Sound Syndrome. It's one of life's great mysteries. I should take Derek and Jude's advice. Do you also get that thing where one of your tracks is suddenly playing back something completely unrelated - like a Brass Band VERY LOUD? I found that these two effects tended to go hand in hand. Hugs Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Editing Actor's Reel DVD Rip to Editable Format - 12 years agoBy the way, it is a Screen Actor's Guild Rule - as per the contract that I as a film producer have to sign annually with them - that actors shall receive, upon request, a copy of their scenes after the film has been released to DVD. So I reckon that covers the legal aspect fairly well in that it is implied in the SAG contract that a showreel will be made, although I agree that it is not speciby harry323 - Café LA Re: OT: RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU ARE WORKING ON CHRISTMAS... - 12 years agoYup. That's me. But I'm going round to a friend's family to eat myself stupid later on. This year I have only bought presents for my friends' pets which I think is a brilliant idea and involves a mere 10 minute excursion to PetSmart. Happy New Year, Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Newbie Question! How do I convert my MP4 to MOV in Compressor so I can use it in FCP? - 12 years agoTo Boodell Esq: Have you yet encountered the wonders of "MpegSTREAMCLIP"? I've had good experiences with it. And - just in case you aren't aware, it's free from Apple and can do all kinds of codec and frame-rate transfers. Best wishes, Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Correcting Complexion - 13 years agoTry Core Melt: This works pretty well for me: From the manual Blurs the highlights of the image and mixes them back over the image creating an effect similar to a diffusion filter or shooting video through a stocking. Unique Parameters: Diffuse Width: Controls the strength of the diffusion filter. Diffuse Mix Over: controls the percentage bleed of the diffusion over theby harry323 - Café LA Re: Film School at NYFA or LAFS - 13 years agoHi there Rajiv, I didn't go to film school and I believe that this made it harder for me to get a start in the business. I completely agree with Derek's point #2 "Possibly the most important aspect of film school is the networking." Had I been to a film school I would have had a ready made network of companions with whom to learn about that little matter of getting a damn job.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Alpha channel problem ... I guess - 13 years agoYay Christoph! And, since Michael implies that I can recommend Christoph's creations, I also own his REPAIR COLLECTION and his TEXT COLLECTION which I have been using for years. Enough Christoph. Best Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Alpha channel problem ... I guess - 13 years agoBen -- Is that a glass of Guinness in your hand? Looks like a half pint of the sacred fluid to me. Ex-pat Brits like me need to know. H.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Alpha channel problem ... I guess - 13 years agoOh - and by the way, Christoph Vorheim (he of CHV / KeyPro) has been immensely responsive to my idiotic questions after purchasing KeyPro ... so I'd just like to give his company a plug here if that's ok. Best Harry.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Alpha channel problem ... I guess - 13 years agoThanks to Tom, Andrew and Ben for the advice and taking the time to answer in the first place. Harry The Idiot.by harry323 - Café LA Re: Alpha channel problem ... I guess - 13 years agoThanks for the reply - it's a JPEG. Ideally I'd like to be able to use my new CHV KeyPro and set the "dropper" to black - I've tried that and can't get anywhere. I think I'll email Christophe. H.by harry323 - Café LA Alpha channel problem ... I guess - 13 years agoI have a photograph of a grasshopper against a black background. I have to matte this into a plate shot of a table. I guess I need to fix the Alpha channel so that the black will disappear and the grasshopper will sit on the table. I read that, in order to create a proper Alpha channel, I should export my grasshopper picture (unrendered) using the ANIMATION codec. My kind of test is a chaotic scattershot affair involving a great deal of swearing and ignorance. Are you condemning me to that? I hate that. It's time consuming hard work and I rely on boffins like you, the Goodly Shane Who Knows All, to instruct me in the ways of the Jedi. love Harry. PS. Thank you for the reply. I want to record from the SDI output of a Canon XLH1 camera direct to FCP (v6.0.6) OS 10.5.8 using my Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme card. This is what I have discovered so far from a review on Millimeter Magazine: At any rate, what comes out of the HD-SDI spigot is always uncompressed 1080/60i. Newly minted synthetic progressive frames must therefore be segmented intby harry323 - Café LA Re: OT: Implied Rights on Infomercials - Usage - 13 years agoThanks, everyone, for the ideas. The idea of tossing in the Berne Convention is hilarious and I wish I'd thought of that myself. We'll nail this guy. But it is also my experience that it is all very well to get a favorable judgment in County Court or Small Claims Court, but that does not in any way guarantee "collection" which has for me, in the past, been impossible since they coby harry323 - Café LA Re: OT: Implied Rights on Infomercials - Usage - 13 years agoI recently did a job for a shower container producer who has not paid me. This was for some infomercials which are currently running and some stuff that runs on his website. Aside from the fact that my partner and I are going to take him to shower container court and sue the shower out of him, do you reckon I could prevent said container from screening these wretched ads by court injunction?by harry323 - Café LA Re: removing digital noise - 13 years agoI second Neat Video. I trust that you all gave suitable thanks today and had a good time while so doing. My best wishes to you all. I continue to suffer from the delusion that you are my friends - well, I guess you are.
