Re: Media Composer Titles--Green Newb Question - 12 years agoYeah I got Steve Cohens book, and it's been a great help. I'm not going to miss FCP, much. Although I've already seen some calls for FCP X, editors. I'm looking forward to this new iPad app. It just makes so much sense to be able export a Bin and work on it, or export bins for a director.by Ethan - Avid Media Composer Re: Media Composer Titles--Green Newb Question - 12 years agoIt doesn't seem to matter, if its selected or not. Oh wait, I made another user for settings when looking for how to turn off Auto-monitoring. And then flipped back to my settings, and now it's all good. I must have gotten myself into mode I wasn't aware of. I freaking hate being at this stage again, where I'm just dangerous. Thanks man.by Ethan - Avid Media Composer Media Composer Titles--Green Newb Question - 12 years agoWhat Am I doing wrong. I'm trying to make simple titles just make them and view them. Practice cutting them in. I'm working with DNX36 HD footage, 23.98. Transcoded for DSLR footage. I make a title in Marque it gets saved to the drive or bin. I put it in a track above some footage. And I don't see the title. It shouldn't need rendering.by Ethan - Avid Media Composer Re: Importing ACVHD - 12 years agoDo you need to download a plug-in from Canon for that camera?by Ethan - Café LA Bizzarro Keyboard - 12 years agoHonestly I don't know when this happened, but my keyboard is fried, or at least half-baked. My space key types a "b" and my -(minus/dash) types a "5". I'd thought I'd gotten some virus or accidentally re-mapped a key. I've got other keyboards but that one was my original white MacPro Keyboard and now I have a cool KB cover for it when I use Media Composer. I guess it's toby Ethan - Café LA Re: weird problem with audio keyframe and level edits undoing themselves constantly - 12 years agoI'm guessing you might have linked some files at some point. Zoom out and select either set, and see if it auto selects the other audio.by Ethan - Café LA Replacing DVD's and Blue-rays with Apps - 12 years agoSo when are we going to get a publishing replacement for DVD studio that creates an App. Currently I see Stonehenge Productions does it, anyone else?by Ethan - Café LA Re: Plugin Request - 12 years agoHere are two, use a transition to animate the text like a push, slide, or 3d box flip right in FCP. and Motion will have a behavior that does that.by Ethan - Café LA Re: OT: Advice on prep before cutting short film - 12 years agoNick Meyers Wrote: > pluraleyes seems problematic to an old-schooler > like me as i know sync can be off on the camera > audio, > plus, i really believe that going though your > rushes in a systematic manner is the best way to > deal with them. Yeah what is up with these DSLRs, There up to 3 frames out?!by Ethan - Café LA Re: OT: Advice on prep before cutting short film - 12 years agoBe a real film editor then, get a knowledgeable assistant, and eff the technical details. Bury yourself in the story and the cutting, and let some other guy handle that stuff. Life will be better. Besides all the other niceties having an assistant can provide like continuities, harassing the production mixer for you, generally fielding any calls from production about continuity issues...etc.by Ethan - Café LA Re: I have seen the future of editing - 12 years agoYep looks cool. But transcribed text where does that come from? Is it another service, or does the software do it, because software hasn't been so successful yet at transcription.by Ethan - Café LA Re: iPad Control Console for FCP 7/X and PPro - 12 years agoI've worked with AC-7, which has mixers and jog shuttle and connects over wifi. It is annoying to set it up every time, and sometimes re-set during a session. But it's still hella useful, I wish I could do the same thing with three wheel color. V-wave lite is awesome with color. The iPad is really great for these interfaces.by Ethan - Café LA Re: multitrack WAV to AIFF - 12 years agoI think your fine mixing the wavs and AIFFs, as long as the sample rate is the same. Mixing sample rates is the dangerous thing. They're both PCM audio, in different wrappers, right? But there is this utility called wav agent, it might be helpful. You can google it. It might require two passes, but I'm kinda sure it can be batched.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Audio shifting out of sync in FCP 7 - 12 years agoI have seen this a lot, and am thankful for the mentioning of what to look for. One of the solutions I have found (Someone told me) with this is to handle the audio and picture to the same length before/when you sync them. So they don't have those groovy red offset lines. And that has resolved the problem in the past.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Is there any method of copy protecting one-off DVD copies? - 12 years agoProtection filter, ie Text burned in. It can be a pain to personalize it but that should help as well. If your giving it to a client, who does not instill trust. I recommend your own companies name and phone number. Timecode, too. That makes things busy enough that no one will try and crop it out. Also, you could post it on Vimeo or Youtube, that is a marginally safer bar. There are moby Ethan - Café LA Re: Want to rip DVD, post video on YouTube - 12 years agoIt's not going away, my bad I was thinking of perian.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Want to rip DVD, post video on YouTube - 12 years agoMpegstreamclip, a great utility that won't be around for long. I'm assuming, of course that you have the rights to this material. You can export a dv file or a ProRes file, probably better, and then use compressor to make your h264 for YouTube. I think I've tried going straight to H264 and found I get better results going to ProRes or uncompressed, and then making the file for YouTube.by Ethan - Café LA Re: FCP6, Motion, & Soundtrack Pro Suddenly Stopped Launching OS X 10.5.8 - 12 years agoThis can happen with certain updates. After an update my system stopped launching, but if I re-booted and opened fcp and then didn't touch a thing I could get into fcp. It was a framework update there's a sticky about it, and you can just replace the one file. Maybe this isn't your case.by Ethan - Café LA Re: FCP 7.0.3 Constant Crashing - 12 years agoYep convert whatever mp4 you have to ProRes, and if you have any mp3 in your audio track make them Aiff, with a sample rate that matches your sequence. Usually not 44.1. Make a new Project and Shift-command paste the old sequence into it.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Avoid Matrox at any cost ! - 12 years agoI'm on FCP 7 and CS 5.5, OSX 6.8 theoretically they use the same drivers. But the last driver install was probably before the premiere install, I'm not sure. So this is where I suspect my issue is from.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Audio Boost - 12 years agoYes I mean the chronological order matches, but there reaches a point where brute force ie doing it by hand would be faster then re-batching everything. If you had started at the first fail you'd be done by now. Smaller batches helps as well. You might find, certain days go better then others. For me I never do more then a day of dailies at a time, for myriad reasons. I'll let PE do its thby Ethan - Café LA Re: How to Import LX7 AVCHD files to Final Cut Pro - 12 years agoI use log and transfer with my Pany Gh2 all the time. A. Have you downloaded/installed the plugin from Panasonic? B. Did you try and just copy the MTS files off the card, and import them. That wont work in FCP. Try importing directly from the card. Start FCP, then open Log and transfer and then mount the card. It may just pop up on its own. C. Are you sure you installed the Pluby Ethan - Café LA Re: Audio Boost - 12 years agoYou should test the boosting theory, because PE doesn't really listen to sound it looks at the picture of the sound. So boosting the level might still bury your sound in noise. PE definitely functions better when you organize the footage.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Avoid Matrox at any cost ! - 12 years agoThe Matrox card is just OK, I might be happier with it if I had opted for the Max, but it has been problematical. It still plays crunchy audio sometimes. It's not working with Premiere for some reason. I guess it needs a re-install. But lets face it it will never work with Resolve, which is looking like a real frontrunner in the, replace color, box.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Feature Film Sync - 12 years agoI really prefer this method too, it probably has something to do with coming from a film background. But every time I do it I get clips that when I drag them into the timeline they are out of sync, and I mean way out of sync. And sometimes they will corrupt the timeline. So the merge clips works much better for me. Plural-eyes will replace the audio, and does a pretty bang up job of it, andby Ethan - Café LA Re: 3 Way Color Correction tab(s) in the Viewer - 12 years agoYou can also, right click. Select remove attributes, select filters from the pop-up, and hit return. You could shift-F and then replace edit. Command-Z, for undo will work if used immediately.by Ethan - Café LA Letter of engagement recinded, three weeks before shooting. - 12 years agoIn June I received a letter of engagement, from this out of town show. Up until last week I have been conferring with them about various post issues. This week things went cold and I asked that they send my deal memo, and instead they sent an e-mail rescinding the job. Do I have recourse?by Ethan - Café LA Re: Q-master frequently crashes when set up for multi core use. - 12 years agoOver 20 gigs. And it gives a "host failed" message, converting ProRes hq, into ProRes lt. So I've got something I'm doing wrong.by Ethan - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion |
