Re: rendering problems 'out of memory' - 11 years agoThis is a bug in FCS, it has driven me batshit insane. if you re-connect the files they will render. Also turning off external monitor, particularly if you are using a matrox mini. This happens to me with normal Proress footage with a title dissolve. Not very demanding, on a quad core Mac pro. Guy compressing my BR told me to turn that off. Im not so happy with the results. Im thinking he meant in compressor. Where it might be set correctly for the first image only. IF I use the auto Gamma in the timeline how does using or not using the same setting when I use compressor to export to a ProRes 4444 file?by Ethan - Café LA Re: p2 footage audio drop-out after 18 seconds - 11 years agoYup, that did it. The footage always reading as 59.94 in the metadata, really had me looking at everything. But I guess that's correct even though it's 24 frame progressive footage.by Ethan - Café LA Re: p2 footage audio drop-out after 18 seconds - 11 years agoThe force came during p2logpros process. I did get that to function by closing out of FCP. The resulting file was then ingested using L&T, but this file was also missing audio after 18 secs, and was also out of sync. The D.P. says he shot: 24FRAME DVCPRO HD 720 60p DVCPRO 100-720 24p(2:3pulldown) Retrieving the cards hopefully today and see if I have better luck.by Ethan - Café LA Re: p2 footage audio drop-out after 18 seconds - 11 years agoD.P called back. After 10 minutes of him telling me what an idiot I am he checked the file on the camera. It is corrupted. P2LogPro will output a file with audio, but doesn't seem to provide for 4 tracks. But it just failed at trying to force to 24p, the "correct frame rate." Which leaves me with several choices to ferret through...The quotes denote sarcasm.by Ethan - Café LA p2 footage audio drop-out after 18 seconds - 11 years agoWhen I play the clip in L&T it has audio. I don't know what is happening with this footage. I've tried log and transfer several times, I used ProRes, Native and DVCPRO HD, I've tried transcoding only the audio. But in all instances the audio cuts out at 18 seconds ish. I called the D.P and he's holding the P2 cards, but that won't necessarily solve the problem. The D.P. used the Panasoby Ethan - Café LA Re: SD codec for Shot on Film project. - 11 years agoI couldn't agree more. If it where my film and I didn't have the money for a scan, I'd cook something up with a desktop scanner. This filmmaker is committed to going the analogue route.by Ethan - Café LA Re: SD codec for Shot on Film project. - 11 years agoYeah I think the SD offline with negative cut, is a load of pain that in my mind will eventually stall the project into oblivion. Thanks for stressing the differences of DV50 MXF and Quicktime. I was thinking of mentioning the burn-ins, now that you've said something I'll definitely make a mention of those as well as the ALES. Thanksby Ethan - Café LA Re: SD codec for Shot on Film project. - 11 years agoAs this is a no budget project the ideal is best practice. and least use of resources. So telecine is right to the drive, Tapes would be a great comfort and backup but I think re-loading them and the cost of stock and rental on a deck would be prohibitive. If a 720x480 ProRes is going to be a better image then DV50 then that is the way to go, and an Avid user will just have to trans-code.by Ethan - Café LA SD codec for Shot on Film project. - 11 years agoThere is this young filmmaker I am trying to help out. He's shot on 16mm film, and he's getting a free telecine, and then they are doing an old school negative cut. The telecine is going to be SD. He said they where going to do it in ProRes, which is acceptable. But since they don't know who will edit it. I suggested capturing using DV50 as a more system agnostic codec. Comments? suggestiby Ethan - Café LA Re: Capturing in FCP for edit in Premiere on a PC - 11 years agoI was interviewing for a film that was shot on 16mm, and they are getting their telecine done for free. They told me that it was being done in Standard def to ProRes. I'm not sure if can do the show, and if I did I'm not certain I would cut in fcp, I might make this my first avid show. Still it seemed to me that since it has to be telecinied in standard def the appropriate codec was dv50. Pby Ethan - Café LA Motion 4, acting retarded - 11 years agoCharacters are invisible in one project. Have a credit sequence where the roll was working but has stopped, I finally replaced it with a motion path just so I could make some progress. The software isn't acknowledging fades. So text just pops in and out. I'm going to nuke preferences, any ideas what to do after that?by Ethan - Motion Re: Out of Memory, I thought I'd seen a solution to this. - 11 years agoA-ha, turning off external playback to my matrox mini seems to resolve the issue. So I hit command f12, render and then Hit command f12 again.by Ethan - Café LA Re: Out of Memory, I thought I'd seen a solution to this. - 11 years agoI get this error message. When I render a precooked piece of video, ie exported as a QuickTime and brought back into the sequence, and I've added a title and a blurred box. I restart QuickTime and it renders. Rendering in pieces, ie rendering a 20 sec clip in two parts seems to work.by Ethan - Café LA Re: FCP 6 takes too long to export quicktime - 11 years agoIMHO Exporting a 90 minute project like that as a reference file is asking for heartache. It would be my preference that you export it as a quicktime file. An extra TB isnt that expensive. Also that you export reels, so if you have to re-do a section it isnt the whole movie. This will actually make other process like creating DVD's and web files faster.by Ethan - Café LA Out of Memory, I thought I'd seen a solution to this. - 11 years agoI have a ProRes 422 timeline and I get out of memory messages when I am trying to render. If I quit FCP and re-open, it will then render. How can I fix this and not have to re-open FCP?by Ethan - Café LA Re: OMF export sync issue - 11 years agoMy experience with this is you have a piece of audio that has a wrong sample rate, and it might be your very first bit of audio. If you start with 44.1 music that could be it. I discovered this problem when I had one piece of 24 bit 48 khz audio at the very top of a reel that was all 16 bit 48khz. The sync on the original video is rubbery to begin with. But once I transcode with mpegstreamclip, and place in a timeline, then sync drifts horribly. So I slowed picture up 1 or 2 percent and offset the audio a little and I get to something that's not distracting. The last Avid class i took was a 4 hour thing at the guild for assistants, and the instructor said among other things that FCS was a great utility to be used in conjunction with Avid. But... I like to do some CC in FCP to make shots match a little here and there. The three way color feature is supposed to carry over.
