Re: FCP 6.05 and KONA 3 ref issue - 15 years agoCheers Vance.. I tried that... I remember a setting on the extended menu within the digi deck that AJA informed me of but cannot remember.by Phil UK - Café LA FCP 6.05 and KONA 3 ref issue - 15 years agoThis happened before... a reference problem. There is a setting in the extended menu of a sony digi beta deck that allows a stable picture (ref) when going from FCP via a KONA 3 card. I cannot remember what it is. If anyone know I'd love to hear from you. On my desk I have just noticed a row of LaCie drives all awaiting recycling.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: difference between Kona 1080, 1080i, 1080psf ? - 15 years agoI shall put that friend to the test. Thanks Joeby Phil UK - Café LA difference between Kona 1080, 1080i, 1080psf ? - 15 years agoJust out of curiosity, what is the difference between 1080 - 1080i and 1080psf?? Thank you - and how do I get to Ken Stones piece on ProRes and thanks again.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: Setting up a new macbook pro for FCP - 15 years agoOh Right... Cheers - with so much technical terminology and a plethora of product names made up of alphabetical and numerical combinations it is easy to confuse such information.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: Setting up a new macbook pro for FCP - 15 years agoI'm using a mac book pro with all the latest and it is great - Joe what is an MBP?by Phil UK - Café LA Red Giant Instant HD filter for FCP 6?? - 15 years agoHi folks, I read about this in a thread - I think it was GraffixJoe - it spoke of converting DV to HD. I have a project using Apple Pro Res 422 HQ. I want to put in a few cut aways that were filmed as DV. Do I need the Red Giant filter or can I re size manually? The filter looks cool and worth the 50 quid but I need to do this now. Cheers again.. Phil UKby Phil UK - Café LA Rubbish Audio correction?? - 15 years agoThis is bog standard stuff and sound men still make mistakes on audio levels. This is an interview shot on HDV and the first few minutes are over recorded (peaking at 0 db) then the soundman corrects the levels to -20 db. Is there any kind of audio filter that can soften the blow as the audio clips and crackles. My hopes are not high but thanks anyway. Cheers Phil UKby Phil UK - Café LA The world of Pro RES - 15 years agoWhere or how can I learn more about the Pro Res codecs once one had upgraded to FCP 6. What are the advantages. I am curious, I deliver everything as uncompressed 8 or 10 bit SD quicktimes and sometimes IMX 50 mb per second files, HDV whatever. I am interested in where all this is going and am wondering in the British broadcasting world when one would deliver programs as Pro Res. Cheers Phil UKby Phil UK - Café LA Re: Import problems??? - 15 years agoI did the update and things seem cool. Cloning drives is something that scares me so I just did it. How is this done and will affect current projects?by Phil UK - Café LA Import problems??? - 15 years agoI have done this a million times. Import an uncompressed 8 bit quicktime that has been provided on a DVD (file only) but at the moment this workstation (mac pro 2 x 3ghz> 4 Gb RAM> Tiger 10.4.11> FCP 5.1.4> Quicktime 7.4 (92) stops during import saying task cannot completed - some written files are missing General error 36. Could this be due to a version of Quicktime?? Cheers again Phby Phil UK - Café LA Re: Renting an HD editing system - 15 years agoI use a manner or 1 Tb RAIDS - one internal and the other FW 800 and they have been very good with KONA 3. Are you referring to a particular HD format? I to would be interested in knowing what disk speed is required. KONA does have a speed test in its software bundle.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: Do large files left on desk top hinder FCP performance?? - 15 years agoThese files are not linked to FCP yet the end up on the desk top piling up n up. It is down to laziness that these files get stored on the desktop and no matter how many times I gripe like an old drain - they still show up.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: Do large files left on desk top hinder FCP performance?? - 15 years agoI totally agree and have never done it and become very disagreeable when others do it. I always have issues it seems with AJA software whenever someone dumps 190 Gbs worth of files on the desktop. It just acts strange. Maybe just a coincidence.by Phil UK - Café LA Do large files left on desk top hinder FCP performance?? - 15 years agoI work freelance for a company on a mac pro 2 x 3ghz tower with FCP 5 and AJA Kona 3. I have had this workstation working very nicely but in recent times people have been working at this same computer and leaving a large array of uncompressed 8 bit files on the desktop which really makes me fume. Why? Because it really slows the system down and I think in some abstract way interferes with the ediby Phil UK - Café LA Transfering Tiger 10.4.11 (FCP 5.1.4) projects to the latest FCP 6.04 (Leopard) - 15 years agoI've had problems opening projects created using FCP 5.1.4 on Tiger on my mac book pro with all the latest software. I am using AJA uncompressed 8 bit. I click on the project and it does'nt open thus defeating my (mobile editing is the the new rock) concept. Cheers Phil UKby Phil UK - Café LA Re: Losing monitor output? - 15 years agoIt is Strypes...but in a previous life when I had to do this it mean't re installing the AJA software and on the AJA site the software downloads only cover FCP 6 for KONA 3 cards and would'nt you know it? On this particular work station the download for FCP 5 is nowhere to be found. Cheers philby Phil UK - Café LA Losing monitor output? - 15 years agoThis happens on a regular basis with mac pro 2 x 3gz, 4 gb RAM, FCP 5.1.4, AJA Kona 3 and a Sony HR Trinitrom broadcast monitor. I use the PAL/Y out setting for uncompressed 8 bit SD. All I'm getting is color bars on the monitor....I don't know why this set up does this.
