Using Apple Pro Res 422? - 15 years agoIt goe on...because of SAS problems (fiber channel...dropped frames etc) a technician has said to work using apple pro res codecs. They are compressed with no picture quality loss. I've used uncompressed 8/10 bit happily and feel this should be fine. It seems because this SAS is straining and has set up issues that using pro res is a quick fix solution. I don't know. Enlightenment greatly appriecby Phil UK - Café LA Re: Using Ethernet Hard drive connections?? - 15 years agoJeff, if you could email me your answer if that is convenient or allowed: phil@sassyfilms.co.uk Thanks. PS: No problem if you don't have the time.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: Using Ethernet Hard drive connections?? - 15 years agoThanks Jeff...watch this space I guess as it's new to me. Metadata Arbiter is a term I like, I will endeavour to find out more. Thanks mate.by Phil UK - Café LA 8 channels of FCP audio only 4 on AJA output? - 15 years agoIs it possible to assign 2 channels of FCP audio (A1/A2) to one channel of AJA output so 8 channels can be played out via AJA's 4 channel outputs? Cheers Phil UK.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: Using Ethernet Hard drive connections?? - 15 years agoOK. Me again...a SAN is the storage device and a fibre channel system that apple says has posibilites and "COULD" be OK is in use. In this cast it is not cutting it.. Exports are a problem, Playback is a problem (dropped frames) and laying off to tape in not possible at this juncture. The supplier says it should all be OK but is isn't. I loved my old mac pro with internal drives and GTEby Phil UK - Café LA Re: Using Ethernet Hard drive connections?? - 15 years agoHi Jude...I do not know...new place new rules, lots of teething problems. I'm kinda old school now in that I like my G Tech and using FCP videoscopes and being my own guy. Now I'm dealing with new and still untried technology.by Phil UK - Café LA Using Ethernet Hard drive connections?? - 15 years agoNew job, new equipment none of it particularly happy. Big Final Cut house running FCP 6 on mac pro towers, powerful etc...Tiger...Media stored in seperate tape room on stack of drives 15 Tb in total..supplied to workstations via Ethernet? Is anyone out there using this technology? Is it a pain in the a** like what I'm dealing with?by Phil UK - Café LA Re: Questionable aspect ratio procedure yet again??? - 15 years agoCheers gentlemen...it is better than it was - always learnin' eh?by Phil UK - Café LA Questionable aspect ratio procedure yet again??? - 15 years agoI have a project which was oddly enough shot 4 by 3. I am working with new people and they have told me to convert 4 by 3 to 16 by 9 to Motion>Scale 133> Distort 33.33 . Set sequence settings to anamororphic. I look kind of OK but not 100%. When exported the sequence come out 16 By 9 FHA. Is this correct proceedure or should I be cropping rather than said proceedure. Cheers Phl UKby Phil UK - Café LA Adding white border on picture inserts? - 15 years agoI am adding reaction shots to a presentation using inserts lower right. I was wondering if there is an easy and quick way of adding a white border to the insert??? I created a white shape (layer) and placed the insert over it, a bit time consuming though. Cheers Phil UKby Phil UK - Café LA Re: Juddering on camera pans....filters making it worse? - 15 years agoHi Ben, I've done all that - it is strange, I've improved by frame off set (what I originally tried) and it has improved. New job, new place, new troubles and why editors are worth their salt. Hows lovely Bristol? Do you ever check H F Whittingstall and the Bristol free holdings?by Phil UK - Café LA Huge delay between computer and outboard monitor - 15 years agoI've had this problem before and corrected it with playbeck off set setting to 0 - but this (Kona Lh to small breakout box and into a JVC DTX flatscreen monitor - the sequence settings are AJA Kona 625125 - DV 10 bit. However there is a 5 or 6 frame delay perhaps more. The media is coming from a huge hub of drives that are nott nearly up to speed as I am also getting Drop Frames on playback on DVby Phil UK - Café LA Juddering on camera pans....filters making it worse? - 15 years agoMy info is in the post below this although I failed to mention I'm using FCP 6.03 OSX 10.4.11 with QT 7.4.5. More monitor problems with juddering on same monitor and can't get rid of it with filters which usually work very well. I've had this before with DV CAM and it is really boring but I have to get on with it. Thank you Phil UKby Phil UK - Café LA Re: Trouble multi-clipping HDV taped footage with SXS card footage - 15 years agoI do this kind of stuff and just use a HDV sequence if the HDV camera is using prime lenses and looks better than DV CAM. I also do it old school - manual rather than multiclip function because I find it easier although you have to render all the time but it works.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: need to use music from movie soundtrack in project - 15 years agoIn fact it is serious. A friend of mine works for a very famous and legendary punk rock band and their phone rings 50 times a day and a snippet of said band goes for £1000 per minute. If it is not for broadcast use but do not get caught.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: weird reconnecting media issue - 15 years agoThe disks are formatted for mac. A rexported XML was used to moderate success before error messeges came up and then FCP crashed. Apple have said files have been corrupted possibly but they do not know why.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: weird reconnecting media issue - 15 years agoTo be honest it seems like a massive teething trouble scenario...the drives are a massive tower (microboards) I believe is the name - It's amulti cam thing with subclips, sub clip names differ slghtly from originals and there is the problem - finding and matching and reconnecting. I will have to look into it deeper.by Phil UK - Café LA weird reconnecting media issue - 15 years agoNew Job - Mac pro 2 x 3 ghz, OSX 10.4.11 with 5gb RAM and FCP 6.3. We are using an external drive kinda like an AVID Unity. There are problems with media going offline and media manager being unable to reconnect. Any tips please...I'm new to this place but will get as much info as possible. Cheers Philby Phil UK - Café LA anybody heard of a leveller? - 15 years agoI am thinking of working for a new place who have a hub of drive space, decks etc plus an out board piece of equipment called a leveller...it ensures broadcast safety without the use of videoscopes. Has anyone used this? I like using video scopes, it's part of the job. Phil UKby Phil UK - Café LA Re: idvd 8 is driving me mad..don't like it - 15 years agoCheers guys - on Idcd 5/6 that works but with 8 there is no access to drop custom backgrounds or ditch the clarinet music. It's the latest version and to me it is moving backwards. I like IDVD 5 and 6. Phil UKby Phil UK - Café LA Re: Motion Text objects to add at cam point - 15 years agoThis is the motion forumby Phil UK - Motion idvd 8 is driving me mad..don't like it - 15 years agoI hate asking this on this forum but the apple support is a pain, all accounts and god knows what...I create custon DVDs on idvd 6 no problem but 8 is just ridiculous. I hate these themes, they are cheesy and inappropriate. I've asked and I have to ask again, how do I get rid of them and create a title page - no themes, no clariner music? Please and thank you. Phil UKby Phil UK - Café LA how do you lose the themes for Idvd? - 15 years agoI just want to make custom title pages etc but can't figure it out on the latest IDVD 8. On 6 I'm fine - I like IDVD but I don't like themes. Cheers phil UKby Phil UK - Café LA Re: Leopard 10.5.3. / Macbook Pro Firmware updates are out... - 15 years agoWhat is time machine? Cheers Phil UK.by Phil UK - Café LA Re: expected final cut pro release date - 15 years agoIs this just a downloadable upgrade like FCP 5.1.4?by Phil UK - Café LA An economical portable FCP editing option.. - 16 years agoI know you folks have done this to death but I need your input - it is always apprieciated. I want to get a mac book (I cant afford a mac book pro..I live in England and the prices are way over the top) and of course I want to use FCP 5/6 with the AJA codecs. It will be very helpful if the mac book can handle it. Should I go for it? Thank you Phil UKby Phil UK - Café LA |
