File Comparative Software - 12 years agoIs there a program that would allow a person to compare the content of 2 drives or folders to look for duplicate or maybe name similar files?by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Just curious about Avid/Adobe switchers and color correction. - 12 years agoI want to move into Resolve also. I have not heard anything but good about it. I was using color but i have abstained from it because i want to learn the Adobe way. I used Premier to CC & Grade for a music video i am just finishing. Though Premier is still primitive for color, I have found it better than FCP alone for CC and Grading. They have very nice curves that can get you on the waby J.Corbett - Avid Media Composer Re: Curious what direction LAFCPUGers are going? Remain with FCP or switch? - 12 years agoby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Workflow: from shoot to FCP - 12 years agotry this as a test. find a old 10sec video clip with sound and put it in fcp on the time line. select the clip and hit opt+L this will unlink the file. You can tell because there are little arrows on the video that points down to the audio and in the audio file the arrows point up to the video. These arrows says that they are linked. The opt+L will add or remove the link. move that aby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Workflow: from shoot to FCP - 12 years agoyou definitely want 2 lavs in a live venue. A boom mic will pick up to much room and crowd noise. You can also use a regular hand held mic, having the interviewer move the mic from in front of their mouth to the interviewee. Format AIFF@48/16, mp4 or wav ( you could even use a bwav ) be careful to get 15 second clips or longer for each angle the b-cam decides to use. Remain with FCP or switch? - 12 years agoyeah, you are right its just an action history.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: OT- Best way to tell a story in a documentary - 12 years agoThere are some DP mistakes in this but here is a mini-doc i did like 5 or so years ago in 1/4 SD with NO BUDGET. It was a part of a series. Its also one of the most viewed videos i have. People say its interesting but its not my personal favorite.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Curious what direction LAFCPUGers are going? Remain with FCP or switch? - 12 years agoexcuse the typo on the metadata.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Curious what direction LAFCPUGers are going? Remain with FCP or switch? - 12 years agoNot having full tested or pushed Premier's file management, what i have learned so far is that even if you decide to consolidate the parts or clips of the media files to only what you have used in the TL. As long as that drive is still connected to the system, you can always go back to the full clip on that drive. They have some very deep metadata features in Premier. i haven't used it in theby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Curious what direction LAFCPUGers are going? Remain with FCP or switch? - 12 years agoI have an ati 5870 (5months old), And i am now on my 4th full premier edit. I have not seen anything that suggests i am missing out by not having a nVidia card. I am sure that it is something since i have seen plenty of tutorials that mention Mercury and CUDA. However, i do not think that it is an absolute or incredibly necessary for PP to work well. I will say that moving from FCP to Preby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Curious what direction LAFCPUGers are going? Remain with FCP or switch? - 12 years agoChi-Ho Export an xml file from something you did before. Not sure if you keep stage files for your projects, like having a seq for each stage (1st cut, Final Cut, Color, Graphics) but if you have a project there, try opening the xml in premier pro. Then finish it there. I think you will like the workflow. Avid is a great system but costly.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Curious what direction LAFCPUGers are going? Remain with FCP or switch? - 12 years agoI have made the FULL switch to Premier cs5 as of this week. I was using it as a pass-thru to AE before FCPx. It was strange to me not having to do an intermediate codec or render on every other effect & grade. Very nice workflow. Round trips are nicer in PP. I am unsure if Sound booth is as powerful as SoundtrackPro but i am sure CS6 will be a large jump in feature due to Apples BIG mistaby J.Corbett - Café LA SWF from fcp on location - 12 years agowhat are you guys using on you laptop to create swf. I am in charlotte and i have a client that needs a file in swf. I would normally use flash or On2 to encode but i do not have it on either of my MBPs. I am exporting from FCP6. is there a swf codec that uses vp6 as a plugin to QT or Compressor or even adobe media encoder?by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Compression to put feature cut online - 12 years agoNOT really. you can tweak the bit rate or lower the res but at that size Not in h264. You can try going from original to fv4/fla but i still think you will have about 1.5 gigs. You will need to chapter it into say 5 parts to show it near efficiently on the web. I think vimeo plus will take up to 5 gigs but maybe not as a single file.by J.Corbett - Café LA Managing Archives and Active System Storage - 12 years ago1. I have about 7tb of archived sd footage. I keep it stored on shrunk wrapped HDD's inside of a a climate controlled storage cabinet. The drives range from 80g to 500g. I was planning to move all of it to a newer set of drives, but i see that would be a at least a tri-anual duty. I want to keep all of the footage that i shoot. So On this issue of archive, Is this my only option to maintaiby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: X is here (also new Motion and Compressor) - 12 years agoTom Thats my replacement phrase for douche. Complements of Ben. I like it better than douche.by J.Corbett - Café LA - X Re: Quiet Regarding FCPX - 12 years agothats because a lot of folks are still in shock. They are semi-detached from what has been inflicted on FCP as a pro-tool. FCP7 is better than FCPX. Maybe thats why they added the X, they knew it would be eventually X'ed out of the industry. My condolences on Apples share of the industry. Thanks, for the good times FCP.by J.Corbett - Café LA - X Re: X is here (also new Motion and Compressor) - 12 years agoI knew it. Is my "crap" reference applicable now? they didn't make FCPX for big time studios or heavily active freelancers. They made this for people who have a hobby. No Multi....... really? what were they thinking? ...... oh.....i know..... the consumer market is more money. Apple has forgotten where they came from. Sure you guys may disagree with my premise or style of deliverby J.Corbett - Café LA - X Re: OT: An Editor's Lament - 12 years agoHey, hey, heyyyyy now Andy, "I saw Keisha Does The Burbs" and it was moving. Up and down mostly, but it made me FEEL SOMETHING too.by J.Corbett - Café LA C4D as 2.5d to match the footage - 12 years agoI have been using Ae to get really nice graphics for a while. But as some of you may know i have been chasing accurately textured text with some since of lighting. I purchased C4D about 5 months ago and i have recently started using it to create more soft 24p looking graphics. (Using it much like i would Ae) when looking at +500k commercials and such, is this a norm practice? Is one of tby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Beauty w/ One Small Blemish - 12 years agoThanks for the suggestion. Look like CHV is something i should have anyway. I have been in AE trying some things but the shadows are making it very tedious. I guess its should be that way. lolby J.Corbett - Café LA OT: Customizing EditBay - 12 years agoI have been building some very ugly parts to expand my L desk. I have seen some pics of other editors desk. So i was wondering was there a place that sold or created desk specifically for edit bays? What do you guys do for wider or larger in someway desk? Is it possible to get some pictures of your edit bays for ideas. ON THE DESK 3 27inch screens wacom tablet sd card rackby J.Corbett - Café LA Beauty w/ One Small Blemish - 12 years agoYou can 'photoshop' a blemish/bump from a photo of an otherwise perfect complexion. But thats one frame. Photoshop takes in video as an image sequence and you can correct each frame in say a 3second clip. I am looking at a 1minute clip with a otherwise perfectly beautiful lady that has one blemish and a lot of closeups. The shadow from her lips moves over the bump at times. Its high contrasby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: How to make Imovie look nearly like the new FCP X - 12 years agoThats what i was thinking also CLAY. SApple doesn't mention future plans or even issue reassurances and the gap from fcp7 to FCPX was large. Made it feel like it wasn't important. Apple is becoming a consumer only company. I wouldn't be surprised to see the towers phased out. Adobe doesn't make cool consumer products. they make software. They are also after the FCP market. I can kinda seeby J.Corbett - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoI remember something about the video card also. I was shooting with consumer cams then so i didn't really get into FCP3 full host of capabilities then. I was happy to be able to do anything with video then. FCPX is a disappointment to me if there is no viewer. Maybe i should have said " its a crappy deal for me if there is no viewer". I assume this means we can look forward to less of your knowledge + action over here on the LAFCPUG forums? I use everything. And I don't think you could possibly expect a positive response from a personally directed line like this. Using everything I have discovered some very nice features in premier and AE. I think most real editors will stick to FCP6&7. The FCPX what-cha-macall-it, IMHO is crap. no mater how it uses resources or makes the intricate settings that we do now, dummy proof. Name it "FCP Surrender". Apple Lost me right here. I think motion will be preseby J.Corbett - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 12 years agoIt looks like a novice app made for those who want to start learning and then buy a real editing system once they have it down. The key wording and in-timeline media browsing is nice. Better use of cpu resources.... wonderful. Darker sleeker UI ........... marvelous. I like the enhanced effects and possible grade layers. Probably much better keying. Deeper audio. Nicer TL but like the mby J.Corbett - Café LA - X |
