Re: Larry Jordan has seen the light... - 12 years agoNice that works but i still would like fcp to do it. I am gonna try this on my next few projects to get the hang of it as a normal action. Using automator that deep is kinda new but its making me warm and fuzzy. Still FCS4 needs to be a bigger, more robust build than Production PremiumCS5 the features they added there were wow-like. I just became aware of these a few weeks ago when looking at a new mac. It sound interesting but not sure if its better long term or if its good for the edit. I had good lighting but the gain was at 6db. Its always been there. I use shutter before i think of gain most of the time. It could be my settings in the nle. I shot 1080p24 and i am editing in 720p24. I have some steady cam that i am gonna apply to one shot and i thought the extra room would help. The BM Intensity on this computer has no 720p24.by J.Corbett - Café LA NeoScene vs Prores for avchd - 12 years agoI still get a lot of grain from my Hmc in 24p (720 or 1080). I was reading a post that recommended NeoScene for avchd. Has anyone had experience with using something other than Prores to get a better image? (less Grain)by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Soundtrack Pro vs. Pro Tools - 12 years agoNick I use a lot of aiff because it fits into the PT/Reason workflow the easiest. I don't often worry about storage/processing issues as it relates to size. Drives are cheap. I think i will try your method with an old project. I haven't seen an omf in at least 3years. SDII and Wav is what i see mostly outside of the aiff's. About STP I like STP for the quicky and the effects. A bit out of reach right now but certainly on the radar. As i looked at the video it seems like it negates the limitation of the cams built-in codec. I think its neat way ta go. I am stuck in the sd world right now so i think the express34 needs a ride before i could go to that level.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Sd card reader or faster connection - On Location - 12 years agothanks shaneby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Soundtrack Pro vs. Pro Tools - 12 years agoNot sure why you would need omf coming out of FCP. There is a 2gig limit on omf's in FCP 5,6,7 and omf's are the full sequence(SEQ) regardless of in/outs. The aiff file will accept in/outs and it is native to PT v5-9. If your SEQ has all of the audio in the correct places you can use that in protools (track by track as far as i know). Then you can place the file back into the FCP SEQ after youby J.Corbett - Café LA Sd card reader or faster connection - On Location - 12 years agoMy MBP crashes my application (Pr) on preview of mts files. (MBP 2.4 dual core $g ram) However on my main MacPro it does not. I use the same OHM SD reader on both. On the Macpro i connect via the extra usb on the ultra thin keyboard. If i have say 12s of footage and the slow mo starts at 00:00:06:14 and out at 00:00:08:20 i will make a cut at that point. but when going thru CT the start point is 00:00:00:00. Or can CT be set to continue the TC, so that the in point is 00:00:06:14. There is no round trip to CT. Thats why i thought there was more to it than jusby J.Corbett - Café LA Correctly identifying the correct frame for slow motion Switch - 12 years agoif i drop 60p into a 24p TL its still looks like nearly interlaced. If i conform 60p to 24p its slow motion, though it will match nearly the look of regular 24p.. I have a music video that i am about to shoot and i want to shoot 720p24. But there are some planned shots that i want to do in slowmo. So i had planed to use 720p60 then conform to 24p in CT, for those effects. Brother makes a laser for about 259. The toner is about 85. but it will give you 20x the printing before refill. ( like 20 ink changes ). there even more at the 350 range. They have a lot of fine detail rack and bars and the flicker is on things that would remind you of bars or a fence. Like waving lines over the line in the pic. i have seen this when scaling a fence picture and ended up omitting the pic. I have also seen this in pics with water.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: OT: Modo vs C4D for commercials, composites, & industry compatability - 12 years agoSprocketz Would you say that C4D has a better character rigs? I did read that it is easy to animate there. I mean i would like to get around to creating a full commercial with basic shape, and animated characters.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: OT: Modo vs C4D for commercials, composites, & industry compatability - 12 years agoYeah, I know Maya is top hound in the industry. I agree its hard to get started. to me i felt that even though maya was top dog, there had to be other apps that were alternatively used in the industry. Sorta like Avid, FCP, and Premier. (Maya, C4D and Modo)by J.Corbett - Café LA OT: Modo vs C4D for commercials, composites, & industry compatability - 12 years agoI am looking at Modo & C4D. I have Blender but usability is awkward. I haven't gotten to creating a mesh. I usually take it to PS for painting then to AE. My 1st thought was C4D since i had some experience with it only about 3months total but enough to know its easy to get started on rather nice beginner models. Then i saw this - , and it made want to consider Modo. I saw their siteby J.Corbett - Café LA OT: Defrag'ing Media Drives - 12 years agoHow Often should you defrag a media drive or secondary drives? I have a 1tb for all of my programs and the os. I have 3 firewire drives (2daisy chained) and 3 sata drives - sata1 is raid 5 (2tb), sata2 is a 4bay with 2 on raid5(1tb) and 2 jbod(2tb), sata3 is 2 jbod (2tb). The best films cost a lot of money. I can see that. I admire the high-end work also. I guess i am more of a "whats possible from this point" person. I see a need with a budget that makes it possible for a decent outcome. It may not be enough to hire The Cave Men or Nia Long, or get a fully staffed crew but it can be done. Quick Trip had over 400 locations and they are a local chain of convenient stores. The clients who demand you do it for a pittance are normally the ones you want to avoid anyway I have been an evangelist on this topic since i join this forum. Thats not the only way to look at it. What is the size of your market? places like LA, NY, FL are huge markets. A freelancer can charge anywhere from 1500 - 8k for a 30s - 1m commercial. You should price 3 competitors one that does work you think is awful but they have clients, a moderately large studio, and a middle of the road studio. ask them an estimate based on a 30s spot with all shots in 1 locations and build a fictby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Premiere To FCP - 12 years agoYou can output QT from PremierPro.
