OT-Ditching the G5 -need great specs for HD Mac Pro - 14 years agoAfter the RAID crash, the G5 is going away. Question 1: Do older G5s have any resale value? (probably not) Question 2: A new HD setup: From the G5, the aja io can stay, this I know. But the Kona 2 will have to go bye-bye. Other than that, what is great system for HD to spec to replace the G5 Ram HD system OSX HD external (raid 10????) Capture Cards (Kona 3?) Imagine a 16 core mac with say 64G of Ram with a Ramdisk option, even in ProRes edit mode, 64G would hold quite a few minutes of footage. But if I stay native, on export, I change the codec to proRes on QT export. This allows me to do further adjustments on a PC, with the adobe CS4 suite; such as converting to an flv for the net.
