Re: FCP Dissolve/Slug Issue - 18 years agoYour sequence is haunted. Fascinating. Never seen this, but I never dissolve to slug unless I need to fill a gap in prep for nesting and global timecode application. Have you tried dissolving to "air"-- that is, no slug? Have you tired dissolving to a color matt clip? Ultimately your best workaround might be to simply ramp opacity to zero. HTH - Loren Today's FCP 5 keytip:by Loren Miller - Café LA Re: FCP Dissolve/Slug Issue - 18 years agoBill, what happens when you try to match frame one of those irrelvant clips? Does the master come up in the viewer? I have seen this sort of behavior on a 24P-to 29.97 feature project orginally from HDCAM, started in FCP 3.x and restored in FCP 4.5. Random, unasked-for clips came in during the recapture. Drove us crazy and the only solution was hand-recapturing the right clips. In this case the DVCAM tape had successfully dethreaded but was stuck in the load alley. I took off the cover and examined it. Probing with a greenie stick I pressed down on the cassette box ever so slightly, and it ejected. The cassette plastic had bowed up probably less than a millimeter-- could barelyby Loren Miller - Café LA Re: Downsizing! - 18 years agoI like Nick's method 1 except that you should include *all* active sequences requiring media if there's more than one in your project-- to list all truly unused media! - Loren Today's FCP 5 keytip: Preview effects sections with Option-P or Option-Backslash! I find it taxed my Dual 800 CPU pretty severely in RT, transcoding for 29.97 output on the fly. I also don't like the idea of mixing media types. One of them will probably have to be rendered for best results. Clips should appear instead of a nest. If any or all are offline, de-nesting won't help. Yes, nesting happens easily whenever you drag one sequence to the timeline into another. To bring in the constituent clps instead, drag with Command. You can use Command with the Edit Overlay too. The best candidates for native FCP mo-co are PSD and TIFF. Too many artifacts in JPEG compression, unless very high quality-- (and then why compress in JPEG?) Also, make sure they're RGB colorspace.
