Re: Editing a Feature with Subtitles - 11 years agoI worked on a feature last year where one third was in Spanish, and nobody in editorial is fluent (I know, I know, shameful). The editors just cut from the script up to a certain point. Then I (assistant) put in subtitles as text on the second track, and conformed them as I did audio passes. After getting into the scene, you get to know the lines pretty quick, regardless of language. Of courseby JustinB - Café LA Re: Exporting FCP project in to Avid - 11 years agoBoris Transfer FCP can help get sequences across. Not sure what to do about the bins/dailies. I've heard of people using Cinema Tools to export ALEs, but I'm not sure exactly how that works.by JustinB - Café LA Re: MC project opens with split windows - 11 years agoI noticed that too. Hopefully that won't be the case with the release version.by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: MC project opens with split windows - 11 years agoAvid does seem to have its own way of doing things. And the UI design is, well, not their strong suit. From the preview screenshot, the MC 6 interface seems like it will be a lot more modern.by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: AJA Ki Pro Mini to record directly to DNxHD - 11 years agoThanks Walter. Thats good news for us Avid users. Adobe peeps will have to stick with ProRes for now.by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: AJA Ki Pro Mini to record directly to DNxHD - 11 years agoGood question Strypes. Because DNxHD does not work in Premiere when wrapped in MXF.by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: 5.5 to 5.5 (Media Composer to Premiere Pro) - 11 years agoIt's not the worse thing in the world buying that plugin. But it wouldn't make sense for me unless I had a setup where I was regularly throwing to Resolve. MC 5.5, CS5.5, Resolve 8. Some interesting, affordable options out there these days.by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: 5.5 to 5.5 (Media Composer to Premiere Pro) - 11 years agoWorkflows involving Resolve 8 interest me. But don't you need a $500 add-on to access DNxHD? Or is that no longer the case with Resolve 8?by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: The cost of plug-ins - 11 years agoNick Meyers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ok, Phrasefind will look for and find text > phonetically, > but what about if i need to Find All "CU Dog" > shots? > > FCP's find tools were essential for me on the last > project, > searching for keywords added to Master Comments > columns. Premiere just isn't playing nice.by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: Can Avid coexist with FCP on same system drive? - 11 years agoGood to know!by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: Can Avid coexist with FCP on same system drive? - 11 years agoHow about CS5? Does any of that Adobe software cause headaches?by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: 5.5 to 5.5 (Media Composer to Premiere Pro) - 11 years agoThanks Jon! That sounds like it might be the problem. I'll give it a shot.by JustinB - Avid Media Composer 5.5 to 5.5 (Media Composer to Premiere Pro) - 11 years agoThis is kind of an odd place to present a question about going from Media Composer to Premiere. But what the heck. Welcome to the brave new world of NLE's. We're cutting a RED show in MC 5.5. Offlining in DNxHD36 (1080, 23.98, low bit rate). I want to conform it in Premiere so I can then flip it to AE for temp VFX (greenscreens and such). So I'm trying different ways of exporting AAFs (linked,by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: Which way? - 11 years agoNick Meyers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Lightworks when it's ported to Mac > > > is that on the cards, or just wishful thinking? > i'd be interested in looking into Lightworks on > Mac. It's on their roadmap for Q4 this year, along with Linux. Of course, I don't imagine it's going to be anywhere near stable for a while. Butby JustinB - Café LA Re: Which way? - 11 years agoEverybody's leaving FCP for some flavor of 5.5. I've gone full on Media Composer as my NLE of choice. I'm also looking forward to trying Lightworks when it's ported to Mac.by JustinB - Café LA Re: Avid training for an FCP user? - 11 years agoFirst, get the free 30 day trial. Then check out Avid's Getting Started video tutorial's for Media Composer 5. For more in-depth learning, you might want to buy Steven Cohen's book, Avid Agility. Good luck!by JustinB - Avid Media Composer Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 11 years agoYou know, I wouldn't be entirely shocked if they ended up doing one more "classic" FCP version as well as FCP X.by JustinB - Café LA - X Re: Best method for transcoding red footage to pro res? - 11 years agoIf you're not going back to the R3D files, you'll have to be more careful about grading them prior to transcode. Some would also recommend using a log gamma to leave the greatest flexibility for the final grade. Red Rushes is totally outdated. It will be misinterpreting the color and gamma of newer RED footage. I would find the latest stable build of REDCINE-X and use that. Try the REDcolor2 cby JustinB - Café LA Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 11 years agoApparently Randy Ubillos isn't so fond of the frame view at all. It took them twelve years and eight versions before the thumbnails were of a size big enough to even be useful!by JustinB - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 11 years agoSteve Cohen on FCPX "2nd Day". I think it's the most astute observation about the new FCP so far. QuoteWhat?s striking to me on second viewing is how much of the demo focused on editing. There were none of the de rigueur things we?ve gotten so used to ? no mention of the number of realtime layers, for example, and little discussion of which media formats can be used. Much appreciated.by JustinB - Café LA - X Re: Final Cut Pro X - still Pro - 11 years agoI have to say, some of the timeline innovations seem like they should have been explored years ago. By Apple or other NLE companies. There's undeniably some really tempting features; for pros and "prosumers" alike. Sadly, I can't see this being used in a collaborative editing environment until several versions down the road. It really is like FCP 1.0 all over again.
