Not if I don't have to. "And since the graphics slot in the Mac Pro is double-wide, your graphics card won?t cover an adjacent slot." It doesn't take up an extra slot.by JustinB - Café LA Re: WWDC - NO FCS 3 - WTF? - 14 years agoThe GTX 285 looks delicious. One Gig VRAM is important to me having dual monitors and using Motion (half the VRAM always gets divided between each monitor.) I hope they really dial in the drivers for OpenGL though. Nvidia has developed a reputation in some circles for not having the best Mac drivers in regards to how they perform in the Pro apps. I'm paying attention to the BareFeats tests. Despite having a project to finish before the weekend, I was laughing for two reasons: 1) I've had such good luck with Macs. I knew a hard reboot would solve it (it did.) 2) I've got a Mac Pro arriving tomorrow. - - - FYI, if you're using the Safari beta, you'll need to upgrade that to if you go to 10.5.7.by JustinB - Café LA Re: OT - NAB Treats 2009 - 15 years agoFreshDV posted a nice little video interview with AJA talking about the Ki Pro and Io Express.by JustinB - News and Announcements Re: OT - NAB Treats 2009 - 15 years agoMatrox Compress HD Faster than realtime H.264 encoding--which is becoming ubiquitous (web, iPhone, Blu-Ray.) Takes up a PCIe slot. Or you can get it built-in to the MXO2 range (mini, rack...) Pretty clever IMHO. I already use H.264 to review footage on my iPhone, and for submitting cuts via FTP. When Blu-Ray on Mac picks up, this will be a great way to go.by JustinB - News and Announcements Re: OT - NAB Treats 2009 - 15 years agoI think it looks pretty good. Then again I don't edit on a laptop. Not yet at least. It's a pretty cheap at $995 MSRP. For an Aja product anyway. It will be interesting to see the competition here with the new Matrox products. I'd love to see a comparative review.by JustinB - News and Announcements OT - NAB Treats 2009 - 15 years agoFirst entry, the Aja Ki Pro. Aja again exploiting whatever nifty chip they have that converts video to ProRes on-the-fly. Definitely interesting in this age of diverging HD codecs. I still commonly work in DV25 -> DV25, DV50 -> DV50, DVCPro 720 -> DVCPro 720, or SD 10-bit -> SD 10-bit. However, at least 35% of my work is DV25 -> SD 10-bit, DV25 -> 8-bit HD, or DVCPro 720 -> 10-bit HD. Never had to work with HDV thankfully.
