I'm glad to hear that it's not just because I'm on a MAC.by Dean - Café LA re: SOS - unending Beachball crashes - 18 years agoFirst I would check to see if the start up drive is still selected in the system Preferances. Then I would restart holding down the shift key until you see the start up gear during the grey screen with apple logo This is called a "Safe Boot" it will take a while to get to login and when login occures it will say safe boot see if things appear to be normal and working properly and then rby Dean - Café LA Re: Repair Disk Permissions? - 18 years agoNo. If you have any other drive besides your boot drive selected Repair permissions will be grayed out. And don't waste time verifing permissions just repair them when you do.by Dean - Café LA Re: 7200 rpm firewire 800 powered by Mac? - 18 years agoTrans intl Has 60 GB 2.5 inch 7200 rpm drive that you could put into a fw 400 box that would be bus powered, those box' cost about $40.00by Dean - Café LA Re: G6 next year? - 18 years agoThe Intel machines should be ready in June. Will they be called G6's Who Knows! When the G5's were about to come out I told my friend that works at Apple in the iPod division that I was going to buy one he told me flat out I wouldn't! He told me to wait till the second revisions came out. SO if I were you I would just get what you need now if you don't need what they have now and can wait then waby Dean - Café LA Re: Canon HD - 18 years ago"Dude, I already started a thread last night on the cam....tsk tsk.... I rarely look past the first page, sometimes I do though. =( Post Edited (09-16-05 11:27)by Dean - Café LA Re: Hard Drive Exchange - 18 years agoI have WD in most of my box' and they are fine if not great. I have them in Raid configs and Sata in my G 5 I also have a Lacie Sata box which I won at L.A. Final Cut Pro User Group it has a Maxtor in it but I haven't used it too much yet. When I worked as a sales rep for Apple a lot of the G 4's had Maxtor drives in them. I think Apple would not use them if they were prone to breaking althoughtby Dean - Café LA Re: Benefits of Raid or Sata Drives? - 18 years ago"For now just concentrate on getting your G5 and some extra > memory. I doubt you'll need faster drives for a while." There is an extra slot in the G5 for another SATA drive they are easy to put in yourself and I would put one in there and use it as your capture drive. You can get a drive for about $180 or less for 250 gigs an they are pretty fast. I use mine before I use my firewirby Dean - Café LA Re: OT: tiger and scanners - 18 years agoYes! I have been using Vuescan since the OS X beta. It made my $49.00 firewire Umax scanner work in OS X. Hamrick almost gave up on us in the begining as he got so much crap for updating the software???? I was lucky I bought when I did as I get free upgrades for life. The beauty is that if you have the software on on say your powerbook and need to scan something and find a scanner it will most liby Dean - Café LA Re: My new G5 system runs like a turtle! - 18 years agoOh I just thought of something. Has Spotlight finished indexing your drives? It still may be working on them which might slow them down.by Dean - Café LA Re: My new G5 system runs like a turtle! - 18 years agoYour G5 has a firewire port on the front as well, You might be better off using it rather than Daisey chaining the drive.by Dean - Café LA Re: Apple's New Mighty Mouse - 18 years agoIt should work just fine. It will be interesting to see how it feels in your hand though. I think if you use an Apple Mouse now it might be great. If you have been using say a Kensington mouse it might not feel that great. Myself I don't like the mice with buttons on the side. Some people do.by Dean - Café LA Re: Scrolling Text editor sucks!!! - 18 years agoAnd it's even better with Boris Graffitiby Dean - Café LA Re: Animation software? - 18 years agoAlso take a look at Modo by Luxology for 3D object creation. I have Animation Master but could never get my mind wrapped around it.by Dean - Café LA Re: Internale Hard Drive Question - 18 years agoYou can add a couple of internal hard disks into your G4. One extra can be installed on top of the existing boot drive with a special bracket from apple. This connects to the second connector on the cable to the internal controller. The other solution is to install a Serial ATA controller card in one of the four PCI slots and buy a SATA drive to install in one of the other three mounting bays inby Dean - Café LA Re: XL2..not wait!!! - 18 years agoYea I need help with my Canon GL 2 so a camera forum would be cool. Everything I'm shooting has a lot of noise in the video signal even in good lighting. It looks like I'm shooting in super low light.by Dean - Café LA Re: is 10.4.2. SAFE for final cut studio - 18 years agoIt's working for me. Back up first. Repair permissions, the usual stuff. Don't upgrade in the middle of a project, although I did. I hope I spelled your name right Loren.by Dean - Café LA Re: Large email attachments? - 18 years agoHave fun uploading that stuff. 1gig Ouch I hope you have a big upload pipe.by Dean - Café LA Slide show - 18 years agoI would just like some ideas on duration for images on a slide show. I'm thinking on average about 5 seconds per image should be about right. I realize it depends on how many image there are and how long I want the show to last but I have a very short time to do this so it doesn't have to be that great. I'm doing it for a friend. I think I have about 200 images. And thanks to Steve Martin and LAFby Dean - Café LA Re: Best HDs for G5 2.7GH - 18 years agoI have all Western Digital drives 9 of them and all are still running.by Dean - Café LA Re: Qmaster2 - 18 years agoApple makes a lot of cool stuff for the Big Guys in Hollywood, New York, London and and yes Kevin Monahan in SF but there are lot of us in other places doing it too that are on smaller systems but we don't have to use all the stuff Apple makes for us. We have it if we need it though.by Dean - Café LA Re: This Mpeg4 is HUUUGE!!! - 18 years agoMaybe others have but I have had not much luck getting small files using MPEG 4 but with Sorenson 3 pro I have. being able to keyframe every 100 per frame ( ie 15 fps keyframe at 150) seems to work well and cuts the file size down.by Dean - Café LA |
