Re: Audio render issue 32-bit floating piont - 7 years agoFCP isn't that happy with .avi files, from memory. it likes Quicktime movs you'd get petter performance if you converted to mov, with with Compressor, or Mpeg streamclip cheers, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Distort Image filter - 7 years agothere probably are filters that do this, not sure if any of the native ones do, however. you could have a look in the distort section of the filters, BUT this is very easy to do either in the motion tab or by manipulating the wireframe 1. double click a clip int the viewer, go to the motion tab, under Distort, adjust Aspect ratio, and then adjust Scale accordingly 2.in the canvas,by Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Projection on Christie - 7 years agoif time is very limited, simply change the settings in quicktime (Command K in quicktime player7) or VLC (Command E) nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Converting film sourced 29.976 clip back to PAL - 7 years agoI've done this a few times, either converting from a DVD source or a VHS source. on two separate occasions (the DVDs) i tried every variation in Compressor with no luck weirdly my solution was to flip the fields first. I applied a filed flipping filter first (can't remember if it was a Nattress or a Joe's), and exported, then ran that file thru Compressor. i've aso had a DVD where the soby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: mp4 video, 29.97 fps with every fifth frame duplicated - 7 years agoQuoteDennis Thank you for having learned these operations of FCP7 and showing them. my pleasureby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: mp4 video, 29.97 fps with every fifth frame duplicated - 7 years agoits not really my area, but for revere televise to work you'd need to see repeated FIELDS, not whole frames. it's relatively easy to remove every 5th frame: put your video in a new timeline. on a track above it, put 4 frames of slug, followed by 1 frame of text copy that, and paste it so you have 2 instances of it, then copy and paste that so you've got 8 instances, etc, etc. pretty soby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Flickering text effect? - 7 years agoyou'd need more than one effect for that. one would probably be the "Bink" filter, which will "blink" a clip on and off according to values you enter. the other would be a way to change the colour of the text. you could keyframe a colour correction filter to do that. don't use the 3-way colour corrector, the simpler colour corrector has a hue wheel. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Stamping a logo - 7 years agosure. first thing: QuoteStefan I fiddle with the sliders every time and it's taking a long time rather than the sliders, switch the canvas to "mage & Wireframe" mode via the little drop down menu at the top of the canvas (looks like a frame). working the wireframe can be a lot quicker than fiddling with the sliders. QuoteStefan Can this positioning be saved as a preset inby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Latest tool for ripping DVD to desired codecs? - 7 years agoi just read about Handbrake being recently used by hackers to get malware onto your computer: Mac users installing popular DVD ripper get nasty backdoor instead "Over a four-day period ending Saturday, a download mirror located at download.handbrake.fr delivered a version of the DVD ripping and video conversion software that contained a backdoor known as Proton, HandBrake developersby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Latest tool for ripping DVD to desired codecs? - 7 years agoyeah more details would be good are you getting the Media Manager warning: "this media is not optimised for FCP"? I've pretty much ignored that without any problems. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Converting a 1280x720 29.98 feature to PAL 25fps - 7 years agoyeah, that'll just drop every 6th frame. it's a tall order converting 29.98 to 25. you could try compressor, go into the frame controls pane, and set retiming to "best" maybe do a test on minute or so to see: A: how long it takes, and B: is it worth it? you might need to take it somewhere that can run it through a Terranex converter unit. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: OS X and AVCHD - 7 years agoi think that the last officially supposed OS for FCP7 was 10.6.8 but who'd be using that still ?! i've found 10.8. to be perfectly workable, as have you, it seems. and I've got it running on a few machines that are Yosemite, 10.10.5 it's stable there, but there are a few small things that don't work. Colour Picker is one, but if you don't do heaps of colour work it's not a big problemby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: crop at an angle - 7 years agohi Jay. the 4pt Garbage mate should do the trick. i wonder what's not working for you? another "cheat" approach could be to double the back plate up onto another track, move it back to where you want it to end, and crop both it and the lower one so it seems like one item again. IF it's design allows for that, of course. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: FCP 6 emergency help needed - 7 years agoah, that old trick! well, glad to hear your back up and running. no idea how those files got there. check your scratch disks and move forward. cheers, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: FCP 6 emergency help needed - 7 years agohave you trashed preferences? can you re-install? nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Converting SD DV PAL (25fps) to 1920x1080 (24fps) - 7 years agohi there. if you wanted to go the hardware route, you could play your DV sub-master out to tape. with compressor, i'd do a few tests. frame rate: are you converting from 25fps to 24fps? or "Conforming" the latter will make the footage play a little slower, but it would most likely look better. i'd definitely test a few clips. de-inerlacing. if you're doing thisby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Converting SD DV PAL (25fps) to 1920x1080 (24fps) - 7 years agothe upscale will never look as good as the HD, but FCP would be the worst place to do it. Best would be to take you footage to a post house and have them do it via hardware converters. another hardware option is to re-capture the DV via a Kona card and let it do the up-scale, it's supposed to be pretty good. if you have to do it yourself without hardware you could try Resolve, and thereby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Latest tool for ripping DVD to desired codecs? - 7 years agoGlad to help, Loren nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Can Color 1.5 do more in terms of color grading than FCP7's own tools? - 7 years agohi Loren, sorry i cont really answer the main part of your question, but in terns of screen size, you really only need small screen for yourself, you can have a larger TV for clients. most of the grading suites i know or that way now, which is kind of weird, i know. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Latest tool for ripping DVD to desired codecs? - 7 years agoHi Loren! Cinematic looks like a good product, shame it's discontinued I've been using P-a-v-t-u-b-e (forgive the dashes, that word was banned here when they were spamming the forum) they've so many products it's kind of confusing, but iMedia Converter for Mac is what i've settled on. cheers, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Can Color 1.5 do more in terms of color grading than FCP7's own tools? - 7 years agohi robert FCP's colour tools, although workable, are pretty basic. (there's really no good masking for power windows, and there's a lot of cross-talk between the black, mids and highs, making it harder to work with) Color1.5 would be better Resolve would be better still in almost very way, i think. especially ease of use, and learning. i haven't worked on either, but Resolve is a muby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Can Color 1.5 do more in terms of color grading than FCP7's own tools? - 7 years agoyes, i agree it is NOT worth he effort to learn Color forget Color, go with resolve. however, you would need an earlier version of Resolve to work on your OS version 11, i think. see if you can find it, if not i do have a copy somewhere it'd be fairly large, around 500mb nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Imported HD files are too dark - 7 years agoi don't know about that camera, but i'd be wary of those cheaper converters. is there some Panasonic software you could use the convert the footage to Prores? nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Importing AVCHD into fcp 6.06 - 7 years agoi have very little experience in this area, but my guess is that you didn't copy the card itself, but rather copied the files FROM the card. generally you need to keep the exact same folder structure, and all the miscellaneous files as well, otherwise the files can be unreadable. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Cinema Tools installed on Yosemite 10.19.5 - 7 years agoyep, just checked. works on Yosemite of course it's years since i had to create a change list, so see how you go. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Cinema Tools installed on Yosemite 10.19.5 - 7 years agoI'm pretty sure it does. i think it's the next OS update that won't run it. if Yosemite is what you've got just try it and see. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: sound keeps disappearing from timeline - 8 years agosorry, Pankaj i haven't been here for a while. That's a weird bug. I don't remember hearing of it before. so the audio is not being deleted from the files, it;s just a timeline problem? have you trashed your FCP preferences? "I'm using FCP 7.0.3 with iMac 27" (3.3 Ghz i5, Retina 5K, Mid 2015) El Capitan 10.11.6. " El Capitain could be part of this problem. it's a vby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: External Hard drive space vs performance? - 8 years agoyeah something like that. to tell the truth, if it's just a drive full of video media, i've often let them fill up more than that, thinking that there's not much file action other than reading going on. if there's renders, etc, and lots of smaller files being added regularly, i try to leave a fair bit free, not letting it get to the 10% limit nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: FCP-X record back to HDV deck? - 8 years agocan you keep FCP7 going on your current system along with FCPX? (i'll answer that: yes, it will be a little while yet before FCP7 is completely broken) Both Blackmagic and AJA make simple log and capture apps, maybe they can play out to HDV as well? nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: FCP-X record back to HDV deck? - 8 years agodo you still have the old FCP? export a QT movie from FCPX, bring it into FCP7, and print to tape. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA |
