Re: OT - amusing issue with dell 24" - 18 years agoHow often do you have to clean cat hair outta yer rig? No way ANY animal is getting into my suite. NO WAY.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Losing Sync - 18 years agoSynch loss? Your captured clips are too long. Your drives are too slow or are not initialized properly.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Importing Footage - 18 years agoJust keep in mind that with capturing formats other than DV, you need much faster drives than standard HDs. Look into a SATA RAID if you want to capture DVCPro HD. I'd prefer that over a FireWire 800 scenario. Oftentimes, you'll also need a video capture card to capture higher quality formats - which ain't cheap.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Can ANYONE answer This?? - 18 years agoOK, I can't figure out why no one has suggested this: Safe RT High Quality NOT Dynamic Render with the Dark Green Full Bars checked in the Sequence>Render menus Make sure your graphic is FULLY rendered. These things are what has changed between FCP 3 and FCP 4. You really have to consider that displaying video has COMPLETELY changed between these two versions. You have to be attuned tby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: OT - ignorant questions... - 18 years agoA matte box also makes it easier to swap out lens filters, like a Pro Mist, etc.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Recording my video mixxing nonsense - 18 years agoHa! This idea is in my book.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: audio - 18 years agoHire a sound designer. You'll be better off with someone that has more experience.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: importing mp3's - 18 years agoNever good practice to use MP3 AT ALL. Use the original AIFF file. And make sure you have the rights to use it legally.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: User Interface Questions - 18 years agoFunctions that are not mappable to the keyboard. Best example, not being able to change the tabs in the Viewer with a keyboard shortcut. Overall, though, the mode free environment is easier to deal with than other edit systems, like Avid.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Is there any way I can reconnect my movie? All my media have gone haywire. - 18 years agoWhat? They haven't invented the Bangladeshi apostrophe yet? ;-) Have fun ol' boy.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: no audio in viewer FCP - 18 years agoMake sure that the speakers are hooked up to the deck (or camcorder) and not the Mac. Hook up your video monitor/tv to the deck as well. Check: View Menu>External Video>All Frames. Check Audio Video Settings: are you in DV NTSC FireWire? If you stay hooked up this way, you'll rarely have trouble with audio. If you do not, you may get confused if you are not super-tuned to the way FCP handby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Quick Help For A Dummie - 18 years agoAbsolutely Jude! Option + dragging audio OR video is the winning technique. FCP Ace Sharon Franklin showed me that one, like, 4 years ago. I've not done Shift + L since then!by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: render issue in spain - 18 years agoBoris is not autoinstalled in FCP 4-FCP HD. YOU have to install it. It's on the Install Disk in the Extras Folder called "Boris Calligraphy". Good luck.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: motion - 18 years agoI prefer the tracking in AE, Boris or even Commotion (which still runs on my Mac). Much more robust.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Now I Can't open project file - 18 years agoROT: Never trust your entire digital project to a single project file. Make a back up nightly and store it OFF your computer: iDisk, CD, thumbdrive, etc.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: advice... HD 24p with 29.97 audio isn't able to matchback to audio correctly. - 18 years agoDo you have the Auto Select Button enabled for the audio track?by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: FCP crashes when camera/deck is hooked up - 18 years agoMarta, Run Disk Warrior on that drive to rescue any corrupt files. As far as the crashing goes, first of all, the PC5 is pretty ancient - and I'm not even sure that it's on the compatibility list - please check that out - it may be time for a new dv deck or camcorder. Barring that, unplug the FireWire drives and see if you can capture to your boot drive. If you can capture to the boot drive, thby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Pan & zoom still photos - 18 years agoSaw Photo to Movie app demo'd at MacWorld. Has a very intelligent deflicker engine. But Derek's right. If you don't optimize the size of your image in PS prior to importing into FCP, you'll see moire on large, detailed photos. Optimiizing in PS has really gone by the wayside in recent years due to the proliferation of digital still cams. Too bad, a lot of newbies have tons of trouble with thisby Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Magazines - 18 years agoThere aren't any that pertain just to FCP. Larry Jordan just came out with one though. Check it out, www.larryjordan.biz. Check out my article on FCP FX in the mag called "Edit Well".by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Pointing out object in video ... - 18 years agoFor me, it's the good ol' USA flag! The arrows in the character palette will only work with the legacy text generator or LiveType (maybe Motion), but won't work with Title 3D.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: lower third titles - 18 years agoI'm with Scott. You should custom make them in Photoshop OR you can make your own with a combination of cropped color mattes and Title 3D.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Basic text question - 18 years agoIf you don't have Title 3D installed, YOU have to install it. It's on the install disk in the "Extras" folder under Boris Calligraphy. Using the legacy text generator is for restoring OLD projects. If you are still using them for new projects, you probably don't know about how much better Title 3D is.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Circle The info FCP - 18 years agoUse the paint tool in After Effects. OR in Motion use the masking tools.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Trading in my mac - 18 years agoMy G3 400 is still rockin' with Tiger. Gnarley little surf machine. Runs FCP 3 like a champ. Anyone wanna make an offer for my SCSI Barracudas? 36 GB of blinding speed storage. Still GOOD. ;-)by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: EDIT MAGAZINE - 18 years agoMy man Larry Jordan is putting out a new mag at MacWorld. Check out larryjordan.biz for more info. I wrote an FX article for the debut ish.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Plugin problem with FCP - 18 years agoYou need your own LEGAL copy of BCC good brother. They won't work without running the installer first. You need the plugs anyway. www.borisfx.com BTW, your editor is breaking the law, tell him to stop sending around plug-ins like candy. It's not cool.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Scrolling Text Problem - 18 years agoYou are using Title Crawl and not Scrolling Text right? Title Crawl is far superior to the legacy generator.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Audio drop out of clip but after capture - 18 years agoAlso note: He's not using a dedicated media drive and capturing to his boot drive. No Bueno! Avoid Capture Now. Use Log and Batch Capture for best results.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA Re: Mac - 18 years agoRunning a Seagate Momentus 100 GB 5400RPM (got it before the 7200's came out). Had it replaced by the shop on the Apple campus when I was working over there (ah, the benefits of working at Apple!).....Works GREAT! Suggest you have your Mac dealer do the swap for you. The most I'll do is replace the RAM on my own with this baby.by Kevin Monahan - Café LA |
